A gorgeous period hotel that has been beautifully maintained in all of its historic glory. Tastefully furnished room looking over gardens and fjord - with a 'welcome' carafe of Port! Warm and welcoming staff, and the late evening 'parlour-room' talk on the hotel's history just excellent. A real bonus was being there on the same day that the historic steamer 'Henrik Ibsen' arrived in Dalen for the first visit of the season - complete with welcome speeches and a band! Excellent breakfast with table service; i.e. not the usual self-serve buffet as is norm at other hotels. Highly recommended.

This hotel sits in a semi remote area, which is placed in the forest, but not so far away from the main road (absolutely no issue with getting there while using GPS). It's really quiet there. When we arrived, it was empty (or almost empty) - we didn't stumble upon anyone else. I was welcomed by a very nice lady, who made a big pot of hot, strong coffee for us. Our room was clean, with fresh sheets and nice bathroom. We slept super well, cause it was quiet and it was not hot inside, like in many other places that we stayed in. In the morning, there was a breakfast waiting for us and when we arrived to kaffee/dining area, same lady brought freshly made eggs on a bacon - it was super tasty! We really enjoyed it. It was a nice stay in a hotel, that deserves a little bit more love and interest from customers! :) 100% recommend.

We had a wonderful stay at Sandviken Camping in Telemark as a family of four with two children. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the stunning location right on the lakeside. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking and provides the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday. We stayed in one of the cabins, which was exceptionally well equipped. It had everything we needed, including plates, glasses, cutlery, washing-up liquid, and many other thoughtful essentials that made our stay comfortable and hassle-free. The facilities throughout the campsite were outstanding. The showers and toilets were immaculate and clearly very well maintained. Our children especially loved the wide range of activities available. The sauna was a big hit and we also enjoyed using the boats and kayaks, playing mini golf, and having fun at the table tennis tables. The surrounding nature is beautiful. Right next to the campsite is a lovely woodland loop walk with surprises along the route, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Across from the campsite, there is also a fantastic Troll Walk – approximately a 7 km circular trail with spectacular lake views about halfway around. Sandviken Camping offers the perfect combination of comfort, outdoor activities, and stunning natural surroundings. We loved every minute of our stay and would highly recommend everyone looking for a holiday in Telemark.

Kragerø is a great town to visit. My aunt visited in 1968. She said, “Kragerø is a pretty town.” She was right! Everyone was friendly, and the town is very walkable. We met a woman who helped connect us to relatives still living in the area. We were able to see where our ancestors lived. The ferry ride through the national park was a real highlight! The cafe in the lower level of the Kragerø Hotel had the best pastries and coffee, served with warmth and a smile. We visited the Sannidal church where our great-grandparents were married. We had an excellent dinner and fine service at Nordraak Kragerø.

A rather small but fun system, the main attraction for the more advanced skiier of course beeing Gaustatoppen which makes for a great adventure, both the access and the lines possible. Check the weather forecast and try to go at a sunny day. One of the best off pistes in the Nordics if the stars align.

The area was very quiet and all the local people were very friendly and welcoming. All those I met spoke very good English. Norway is a very beautiful unspoilt country with some stunning scenery. I would enjoy spending more time there. Public transport is excellent with booking / payment made quick and easy via the use of an app (and very cheap compared to the UK!). I should imagine that during high season, it would be fairly crowded (I was there in early October) when it was very quiet but the weather was still pleasant and sunny. Overall, I would recommend this as a very pleasant location to spend a few days.

Rjukan as a town has a fascinating history.

Rjukan as a town has a fascinating history. However the reason we come is to ice climb. Obviously, this is a niche attraction and Ice climbers will know why Rjukan. However, the history and beauty plus accessibility of venues is world class for this activity. Beyond the climbing, Rjukan is an interesting town with all the main amenities one could need as a base for exploring the amazing countryside in which it sits.

We came from Sweden for a extended weekend and wanted to get 2 full days of skiing, which we did! The ski slopes are a good mix of easy and gentle to a little more challenging, yet all fun and well maintained. All the operating staff were very helpful and pleasant. The resort is small in terms of amenities (only a few restaurants and bars - but all of good standard!) but more than enough for a cosy stay! It has a very relaxed atmosphere and very picturesque location. A lot of cross- country facilities and possibilities to explore the winter outdoors. Highly recommend for a families and individuals alike who come for the outdoors! The only downside is depending on where you are staying you may need a car to get around. There are few walkways unless you are on skies so for those that don't ski you have to stay close to the lodge or have a cosy cabin where you plan to spend a lot of time.
