Senja has blown our minds! Such a beautiful place. We were the only guests staying there but still the owner (or maybe not the owner but the one who has made us feel so welcome) made sure that everything was taken care of. He cooked the meals himself (delicous!) and showed us the Norwegian way of life. Also he had the best tips for spotting the Nothern Lights and even got out the come find us one evening when the Northern Lights were so clearly visible in all their colours; one night to remember (i'm even getting emtional while writing this, an absolute bucket list moment). The setting of Senja Fjordhotell is absolutely great en idyllic.

Perfect location. The hotel is opposite a ferry terminal and located in the center of Tromso city. I could access most of the significant sites by walking.
The building is modern in design. There is a Sky Bar on the top floor, and the gin and tonic was good. The breakfast was also lovely. If you are a tourist visiting Tromso for the first time, staying at this hotel is one of the best choices.

The lovely lady at reception offered me an early check-in which allowed me to start sightseeing earlier. My room had the most beautiful view over the harbour, the ferries, yachts, people fishing, and children playing on the playground. The hotel is a two minute walk from the bus station and the ferries. Loved the sweets in the room and having face washers.

The hotel had everything, comfortable rooms, nice balconies, friendly staff, free sauna (+ access to the lake for cold plunges), bar/restaurant that serves meals throughout the day.
Location was very good, as the area is pretty remote you are in a central place to walk around, explore and take pictures.

Fabulous hotel right on the water. We booked a very small bunk room so it was a bit tight with luggage but it was functional. The beds were comfortable and bathroom good plus a kettle was a bonus. We had a nice view across the water. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. Very friendly staff.

The location could not have been better, amazing views of the mountain and town with the northern lights when you are lucky. Right at the centre with shops and restaurants a quick walk away. Breakfast had a lot of variety. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Easy to get around. Public buses were excellent value and very regular. The tourist info office was very helpful.

Very picturesque island, two days is more than enough to explore it. Sunshine is a rarity. End of season mid August. Place for camper vans to park. One shop and one cafe. You can buy only beer in a shop, no alcohol. For a harder spirits you need to travel to Tromso. Bring your food if you can, shops sells very simple and not very good staff. More or less decent meal you can have in an arctic hotel, which is pricey and just ok, no more, choice is limited.

A nice area to visit and so different from many places in Norway. The countryside is so different from part to parts on the island of Senja. The same with the local people, more quiet at the inner part/Eastern side of the island. Then more outspoken and louder when to speak to the ones on the Western side of the island.
Great place to visit if you are to lock for the Aurora Borealis, and also close to Tromsoe. Either by a car or just for a day-trip with different boats.

A very quiet and nice town. People live and work there are very nice and helpful. The location is center of every scenic spot with short distance drive. The hotel has a restaurant, provide excellent breakfast and dinner.

Lots of things to do - there is a park running north in the...
Lots of things to do - there is a park running north in the middle of Tromso, many varied museums to see, apart from the Tromse Uni Museum (the Arctic Museum) near Telegrafbukta (bus no 40) I suggest you visit the Troll Museum. It is not only for kids. You will understand where the troll-legend originated from, if "mara", the witch who sits on people's breasts when they sleep and makes it difficult to breath is part of your culture - you will learn more about her and how she married, you will hear a piece to the devil on the hardanger fiddle.
There are many grocery stores and restaurants in the centre, bus connection all over the island and beyond, don't miss a trip on bus no 26 through the underwater tunnel to Tromsdalen.
It is nice to pay attention to details - the nice blue round information plaques on buildings (unfortunately only in Norwegian) and the many sculptures.
The many references to the Sami culture (gift shops, flag, events) and to the Northern Lights are unique and appreciable.

A gateway to other areas like Lofoten. My recommendation is to stay further afield to the full extent you can. as things like quiet, darkness and views all improve a lot away from the airport.
And once you do... it can be magic.

Nice place for a short stay. Without a car you run out of options quickly. Smaller hiking trips and ski tours possible in the valley. Northern lights possible when there is no midnight sun. No supermarket in the village.

Tromso is a typical tourist town that , like many others in the world, exist because of its location. Basically a bit of a tourist trap. Like most of Norway VERY expensive. Some of the trips you can book are idiotically expensive.

The city itself is not necessarily special or historic (though some bits are) but the area around the city has some great scenic walks and of course the outlook across the sea/bay is stunning at any time of year, but particularly in the blue hour of the winter days. Lots of buses run regularly to outlying areas and there are fast buses to the airport to connect with flight check-in times. Take a walk along Stien langs sjøen (path along the shore) to the Trondenes Historical Museum (great wee cafe there) and the Adolf cannon from WW2.
