We had a wonderful stay in this gorgeous top floor apartment with all the amenities. We especially appreciated the full laundry facilities and the kind hosts, especially Eva the manager and Marjorie the cleaning lady. The apartment was impeccably clean, the beds were very comfortable and the views of the bay are magnificent. We loved every minute of it!

The location was awesome! The suite was perfect for us to reset, launder our clothes nearby (although there are laundry facilities on site, we just did not have NZ cash), a kitchenette for us to have breakfast and plunger coffee in the am. It was fantastic! Would def stay again. Could walk everywhere. Also, nice and quiet- we slept well.

Our two bedroom, two bathroom apartment was absolutely perfect for two couples as each had their own ensuite. It was equipped with everything we needed, was spotlessly clean and extremely well located within an easy 10 minute walk to the restaurants. Waking up to the beautiful waterfront view was awesome too.

Whangarei was nice.

Whangarei was nice. I didn't spend much time in the township itself as I spent a day out at Poor Knights. The day I spent in the town I went to the clock museum (definitely worth a visit - I did now know how interesting clocks could be), watched glasswork at Grinter Glass and walked around the market in Pūtahi Park. Had a very nice morning. Then headed out to Kiwi North for some history and seeing the miniature railway club in action which was just cool to see active clubs in the area. Car helped getting around, parking was easy to find, although obviously ended up paying for parking in the town basin. Had dinner at the Fat Camel (recommended by my hosts) which was yum, and a dessert at Bocky Boo Gelato Cafe. I was driving down to Snells Beach the day I left so I really only had a morning in Whangarei. I think a long weekend would do it justice.

Kerikeri is an important historical area, particularly The Stone Store and Kemp House. One should take time to learn about the impacts, both negative and positive, of European colonization, and experience the richness and sophistication of the Maori culture.

Kaitaia for me is like the gateway to Cape Reinga & the other places to visit in the Far North. We stayed for 2 nights, used it as a base, travelled up to the Cape & back. Then travelled towards Dargaville & home to the Waikato via the majestic Tane Mahuta.

I love everything about Russell.

I love everything about Russell. It is such an iconic place, full of history. I actually met a lady walking along the beach whose forebearers had built the The Duke of Malborough. The shops have so many wonderful things to offer and the people so friendly and helpful. Apart from The Duke of Malborough which always sets the highest standard in their restaurant which produces incredible food, I must mention Hone’s Garden. The pizzas are outstanding and mixed with a craft beer and friendly staff it’s not hard to see why it is always our first port of call. They have managed to create a laid back, island vibe surrounded by tropical plants. Just in front of Hone’s is The Gables, a fabulous Italian Restaurant. The Lamb Ragu with home made pasta again is exceptional. You would go along way to find three amazing places all within walking distance with views to die for. In terms of boat trips, we can heartily recommend The Hole in the Rock. Our last two lots of visitors thoroughly enjoyed this experience and the added bonus of seeing dolphins and a shark. Just remember to wear something warm as can be a bit cold depending on the weather. Well worth it though!

Underated quality of fish and chips at Mangonui Fish Takeaways overcooked and exorbitant prices plus New Year surcharge didn't help one bit. Hotel fish and chips great, if not better. Easy travels to Taipa and beach area. Great entertainment at the hotel. Main stores caters for practically anything. Simply lovely place just to relax and enjoy others company.
