Off grid, and so tranquil! We wish we could have stayed a little longer.
Hosts were very responsive to questions, and had provided us with breakfast goodies from their own farmstead. Kids said those were the best eggs they'd ever tasted!

Helen and John were wonderful and thoughtful hosts. The Inn is so close to all the key places you want to see in Waitomo. They gave personal and impactful recommendations (Spellbound cave tours-highly recommend!), and they were always ready with a funny story or anecdote. The breakfasts are amazing! We 100% recommend a stay at Abseil Inn!

We stayed on a boat! No idea how they got it there but great fun!
Very close to all the Waitomo caving centres and village pub/restaurant/cafe/shop.
Lovely welcome when we arrived, really comfy bed and beautiful birdsong to wake up to.
Also a friendly pig wandering around outside!

Our tour of the Ruakura cave was great.
Our tour of the Ruakura cave was great. Our tour guide held the kids' attention the entire way and answered all of their questions. The caves are amazing to see and this walking tour is just the right length, even for young kids.
Don't forget to book ahead and take a warm top as it is quite chilly down there.

I enjoyed the peacefulness of the countryside.
I enjoyed the peacefulness of the countryside.
The have a small kitchen, with gas oven cooker, fridge.
There are two bedrooms. Double bed. and the other has bunks.
The shower is very small. Big outdoor bathtub! We stayed there as we visited Waitomo Caves the next day. We bought our own food to cook.

My first trip was 45 years ago.
My first trip was 45 years ago. In comparison back then there was no boat ride. So that was a nice way of finishing the tour. It was summer back then so there were more glow worms. So best time would be in the warmer months. We’re allowed to take photos at the very end only. Would have been nice to have been able to take a few of the caves itself without a flash as memorabilia. Also with groups going through close together it was hard to hear what our guide was saying over other guide’s voices. “Cup of tea” (John) was an excellent guide and very humorous and knowledgeable.

We booked an excursion with The Legendary Black Water...
We booked an excursion with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Experience Waitomo Caves and it was amazing! Our guides, Garret & Alicia, were fun, helpful, informative, and made sure were were safe in the cave & the water; this is is a must do! They take pictures for you because it would be impossible to float in a tube & take pictures yourself.
