The Algarve and the towns in it is the most spectacular place, with its sandstone cliffs and grottos, its cobbled streets decorated in nautical themes, its winding streets (supposedly to fool pirates) and the whitewashed, red-tile roofs, provide the visitor with endless possibilities for sightseeing and shopping.
Not suitable for those with walking difficulties because too hilly. Was good for a winter break but would be far too busy and noisy in the peak period. The prices in cafes etc much higher than in other algarve resorts.
Silves in nice town away from the hectic tourists spots further down south to Portimao and Albuferia. It has a very well preserved castle and can be used as a base for visiting and is also a launching point for the highest point in Algarve above Monchique if you want to have beautiful hikes.
Lagos is a lovely and cosy place to be. We've been there for two times. Every time is nicer than before, we enjoy it a lot. The weather is so nice, the sea water its clean and despite it be a popular destination in the Algarve it maintain its charm and authentic characteristics. There are plenty of good restaurants with local cuisine, for one who really like to eat good food this is the right place. The small old village is charming and there's a variety of shops and really nice restaurants. Really recommend it!
Overall the Algarve area is heavily focussed on tourism, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Expect to find a lot of British folks, both looking for a relaxed time, as well as the stereotypical hen and stag party types. To us Albufeira was a perfect location considering its location. It was smack in the middle of the places we wanted to visit. In the end it depends what you are looking for. Considering the time period we travelled in (April) the experience might be different when the masses come in.
Faro is quaint city with a multitude of restaurants and bars offering quality food and drink at reasonable prices. We really enjoyed Columbus Bar for its atmosphere and most importantly its amazing cocktails! Faro is the perfect jumping off point for day trips to other cities and towns in the Algarve. The train station is a short walk from the down town or about a €2.50 Uber ride. The walled city is beautiful and most of the bars and restaurants are open late.
Make sure you visit Ponta da Piedade and Benagil sea caves from top of cliffs and also by boat! Incredible views! Lagos is perfect location to get to all the beautiful Algarve beaches too!
Walking around the town and wandering by the river was worthwhile. However, there are so many other towns and villages in the Algarve that offer more, we could have seen all that Tavera offered in a single day.
The view is fantastic, walking along the cliffs is wonderful. The village is so lovely and has everything you would expect. The best village of the Algarve coast according to my experience.
Tour package heaven. We hated it. We have seen so many other places on the Algarve which were more beautiful and more interesting. Great place for a one week fly away from another European city; especially if you have kids or just want to stay in one place.

Self catering apartment on the marina. Nice room twin beds "I prefer King" Well equipped kitchen. Low water pressure in the bathroom sink and did not drain well. Shower was tub with hi sides, but did have good water pressure. Family style location. Pool lounger all full or had towels placed by 10.00am, but this seems to be normal for Algarve hotels. Parking was free in a City Lot across fro the main entrance. High steps and ramps might make entering difficult for some, did not see any type of bell boy.

I love the design of the Hostel; the staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. The location was great in a small shopping area with good restaurants and the beach within walking distance (we even had a room with sea view (between the buildings). We did not use the kitchen, but everything that you need to prepare a meal is available. The hostel also has a bar in the same style. We will certainly come back to this place when we return to the Algarve.

Set in a wonderful gated garden estate, this little apart-hotel is located away from the tourist traps of the Algarve, outside the small town of Guia. Individual apartments each have a terrace & full kitchen, cleaned every 3 days. Owner and family very friendly, multilingual, helpful in orienting to the area. At the pool area, there is a communal sitting room with pool table, and bar/ restaurant. Very relaxed atmosphere.

Delicious breakfasts in the restaurant with the beautiful view on the marina and river. Location was nearby bus station, so it was convenient to visit Algarve region. The neighborhood is calm and quiet. It was very, very clean in the room, bed was so comfortable to sleep well. To sum up, thanks to the Globo Hotel we could really enjoy our staying in Portimao with nothing to worry about, just chill, sunbathe, swim and relax.

The Algarve Casino, is clean. The staff I found were not very friendly- the man I saw on arrival was less than impressed that we had arrived earlier than expected and did not try to give us a room - as I had requested months in advance that we would be there early. The swimming pool is salt water, which is ok but I would have rather it not to be. I would not rush back the Algarve Casino Hotel.

I really loved the bar next to the hostel. For a really good price you had the best coffee I had so far in the Algarve. A cappuccino with some proper foamed milk <3 and a simple but very good sandwich (for just 2 euro!!!). The shower was very clean and good and warm. There was a sink outside room where I could sit and do my make-up. Good view from the balcony's.

Great Location!! The pool deck area has spectacular views of the Algarve coast. Great pool and access to some nice beaches. Very clean and well maintained. I was hesitant about reserving the hotel given some mixed reviews. It was my wife's favorite hotel for our entire Portugal vacation.

The apartment was simply amazing! All facilities were provided and in excellent conditions. The location was perfect with easy access to Praia da Rocha and Praia do Vau. Hugo and Diana were very professional and efficient. Would definitely come back and tell my friends to stay at Algarve apartments!

A few steps from the beach, spacious apartments, nice terrace with barbecue, shops & cafés nearby. Very pleasant hosts always available in case of need. Even gave us a treat from the Algarve before leaving and was very flexible with our check-out. Obrigada!

It is a nice spot to stay in between towns in the Algarve. The small hotel is charming and has great breakfast and a very relaxing private pool area. It is more in a residential area but close to beaches. The bed was super big and comfortable.

Fantastic spacious villa with private pool; it was clean and comfortable, the photos don’t do justice to how amazing this place is- a real find. We had use of hotel facilities. Private secure parking. A perfect place to stay in the Algarve.

We rented a large 3 bedroom apartment for 6 nights for a family of 5 adults. It was very comfortable, clean and modern. A nice place to stay to visit Lagos and the Algarve. We loved our stay! The Algarve region is definitely worth visiting!

We just finished a road trip of the entire Algarve and this was by far the most charming place we stayed at. The owners were so genuine and sweet. The hostel itself felt like home and the storks nest by the rooftop terrace is so special.

Super clean beautiful apartment near the beach and restaurants in the heart of Algarve. Exceptionally pleasant and accommodating hosts. Super clean and can fit up to 7 people easily. A big balcony was a bonus!

It's a big hotel, full of stairs everywhere (old building). It was packed with tourists from England (it's the Algarve, after all) and lines for the so so breakfast were long. A good place overall.

The location of the hotel would demand a completely new approach to clients. Algarve is also great because of Portuguese culture, in this hotel is not the case. The location is amazing.

Nice balconies with view of ocean (two two floors best). Big apartments (we had a one bedroom), easy parking, decent internet (for a hotel in the Algarve). Nice front staff.
