We LOVED our suite! The view of the Natural Pools was unbelievable! We could not have asked for more! Fabulous room, shower, smart tv, robes, towels, sheets, space, decor, outdoor furniture, everything was amazing! Breakfast was excellent as well. Freshly squeezed orange juice. Chef making omelettes, eggs, pancakes, waffles. Fresh fruit, baked goods, cold meats and cheeses. Very good coffee. Outdoor seating for breakfast with spectacular views of the Natural Pools... wonderful place. Staff were friendly and helpful. We'll be back!!!

Everything about this property is simply fantastic. Excellent customer service throughout our stay, the staff was very accommodating and we felt like VIPs. The rooms are spacious, clean and quiet, and our balcony view could not be beat. The breakfast buffet was amazing as well, with something for everyone. We also loved the location, it is close to the downtown without being in the heart of it, and the promenade provided excellent walking paths. A great restaurant and a large grocery store were right across the street as well. We will stay here again when we return to Madeira.

Navigator is definitely the best hotel in Porto Santo! The staff are incredibly helpful and made our stay even more enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the whole place has such a peaceful vibe — perfect for total relaxation. In the future, I’d suggest making it adults-only, as the only downside was the noise from children in the dining area. The hotel has great potential. We noticed it opened before being completely finished, with a few details still missing, but I’m sure they’ll continue improving and adding the final touches.

FAQs about hotels in Madeira Archipelago

The Island of Eternal Spring

With lush landscapes, brightly coloured flowers and a mild, year-round climate, it’s easy to see why Madeira is called the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’. Its interior is mountainous, so most resorts are coastal, many at the foot of steep cliffs.

One such resort is Paul do Mar, a fishing village known for whale watching and surfing, as is Jardim do Mar, on a plateau just east. Nearby Calheta has 2 white sand beaches protected by breakwaters.

The main resort is the capital Funchal. Cascading down slopes, it has the lion’s share of 5-star hotels in Madeira on Booking.com. A cable car ascending into the hills offers fantastic views towards the harbour where cruise liners and ferries from neighbouring Porto Santo island are berthed.

East, Caniço’s sandy beach is nestled between rocky cliffs, while Santa Cruz is the nearest resort to Madeira Airport. Machico is the 2nd biggest city and has the best nightlife outside Funchal, but the best Madeira hotels for families are in quieter resorts such as Porto da Cruz in the north.

Santana is home to the triangular-shaped, thatched houses typical of the island, and twisting mountain roads lead to São Vicente, an attractive hill town with red-roofed houses. By the north-western tip is the village of Porto Moniz whose offshore rocks shelter natural rock pools.

Funchal is a small city with Old Town character and marina...

Funchal is a small city with Old Town character and marina to enjoy. The best benefits of Madeira are the hiking trails all over the country. There are a lot of organisations based in Funchal where visitors can sign up to hikes and be picked up and returned to their property at the end of them. This is great for those who are not driving. Funchal also has other sights worth visiting such as Monte Palace and the Botanical gardens, both of which may be accessed by cable car or bus. I would highly recommend both of these attractions. I also visited the Madeira Story centre museum which although old fashioned, provides a chronological history of Madeira for those who are interested. The Old Town provides a wide range of good restaurants for tourists to choose from.

We were only staying in Caniço, we went there to visit Madeira and really enjoyed it. It's green and beautiful, people are very nice and food is excellent. I would definitely recommend renting a car with a powerful engine as the island has lots of steep roads.

Machico is a very pleasant place to stay in Madeira.

Machico is a very pleasant place to stay in Madeira. It’s relatively quiet compared to Funchal, but it is nice and peaceful. It has one of the best sandy beaches on the island, it has a nice town centre with plenty of bars restaurants and cafes. For anyone who likes walking, there are many hiking trails to discover close by.

The volcanic pools were closed due to high waves, We learnt at the reception that the best time to enjoy using them is May-October. Aquarium is fine but rather small. We've tried Rooftop Restaurant - great food but not the cheapest in the world. The Beerhouse is a great place in good weather. With rain you are forced to stay inside. Porto Moniz is small with the volcanic pools its main attraction.

Calhetta itself is small and the main part of it centres around the harbour. As you might expect this means that all the major activities are boat-based such as whale and dolphin watching, sailing, fishing, excursions etc. but there are also lots of restaurants and bars overlooking the harbour where you can get a great meal - especially if you like fish - or just relax for the evening and watch the sunset.

Ponta do Sol is a gem for exploring Madeira's levadas, offering both relaxation and adventure. The scenic Levada do Moinho/Nova is located in Ponta do Sol itself, and varied trails nearby cater to all fitness levels, from challenging Rabaçal hikes to leisurely Levada dos Cedros strolls. Ponta do Sol's tranquil atmosphere, lovely beach, restaurants, and relaxed pace allow for post-hike relaxation. The sunny climate enhances levada walks, and the town provides ample hotels, amenities, and tour operators. For a Madeira levada trip, Ponta do Sol's location, trails, atmosphere, and climate make it an ideal base.
