Absolutely amazing place. We took a room with a balcony facing the seaview and it was 100% worth its' price. It is the best place I've ever been to. People working in the hotel are very helpful and nice. We also received a lot of nice gifts: a bottle of wine, sweets and snacks in our room - all included. The breakfast is quite nice and there are plenty of sweet treats in it. We loved every bit of this place and definitely plan to come back

Good location in Porto Moniz, all rooms have a nice view of the ocean, the cliffs, and a nearby fort. The facilities were very nice, one indoor pool, and one exterior infinity pool with amazing views. The breakfast buffet was exceedingly varied and tasty. Navigator is definitely the best hotel in Porto Santo! The staff are incredibly helpful and made our stay even more enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the whole place has such a peaceful vibe — perfect for total relaxation. In the future, I’d suggest making it adults-only, as the only downside was the noise from children in the dining area. The hotel has great potential. We noticed it opened before being completely finished, with a few details still missing, but I’m sure they’ll continue improving and adding the final touches.

FAQs about hotels in Madeira Archipelago

The Island of Eternal Spring

With lush landscapes, brightly coloured flowers and a mild, year-round climate, it’s easy to see why Madeira is called the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’. Its interior is mountainous, so most resorts are coastal, many at the foot of steep cliffs.

One such resort is Paul do Mar, a fishing village known for whale watching and surfing, as is Jardim do Mar, on a plateau just east. Nearby Calheta has 2 white sand beaches protected by breakwaters.

The main resort is the capital Funchal. Cascading down slopes, it has the lion’s share of 5-star hotels in Madeira on Booking.com. A cable car ascending into the hills offers fantastic views towards the harbour where cruise liners and ferries from neighbouring Porto Santo island are berthed.

East, Caniço’s sandy beach is nestled between rocky cliffs, while Santa Cruz is the nearest resort to Madeira Airport. Machico is the 2nd biggest city and has the best nightlife outside Funchal, but the best Madeira hotels for families are in quieter resorts such as Porto da Cruz in the north.

Santana is home to the triangular-shaped, thatched houses typical of the island, and twisting mountain roads lead to São Vicente, an attractive hill town with red-roofed houses. By the north-western tip is the village of Porto Moniz whose offshore rocks shelter natural rock pools.

Ambience quieter with seemingly older clients as no kids toys in pool. Outside Breakfast area was magical overlooking the pool and ocean.Choices of restaurants great! The spa pool was warmer on cooler days eventho I used the outdoor spectacular infinity pool almost daily. Rooms large and our room deck overlooked the ocean . Happy hour and nightly entertainment a real bonus. Staff were exceptional!! Bus stop in front of hotel to Funchal. We often walked the 30 min walk. 6k promenade on back of hotel which takes you to a unique fishing village.Walked it often.

Brilliant city break in the sun.

Brilliant city break in the sun. Funchal is an incredible location with all the amenities and vibrancy of a city but gave the beauty and laid back charm of a more relaxing holiday destination. The parks and free spaces are exceptional - oh and the flowers - WOW! So clean, safe, easy to get around on foot and public transport, lots to do. I honestly can't fault it. I think I will be a regular visitor from now on.

Some good hiking nearby.

Some good hiking nearby. It is of course pretty steep even on the roads. We visited for the swimming but, it being December and just after a storm, the pools were closed. Our stay was for 5 days and we kept busy but the place is quiet in December. The amount of car parking implies the place is busy with day trippers when the weather is warmer - and the pools are open.

Calheta is a nice quiet town.

Calheta is a nice quiet town. Very hilly but then all the towns are like this in Madeira! We really liked the quiet feel of the upper part where we stayed. There are lots of stores and restaurants along the beach and it's just a nice place to take a walk, go swimming and have a picnic or a beverage on one of the many restaurant patios along the marina. Finding gas stations was also very easy. We used this location to make it easy for us to access many of the hikes that are in this Western half on Madeira island. Even in rush hour it's under an hour to get to Funchal. We were there in April and already so many beautiful flowers blooming, The weather here is also ideal - a lot more sunny and dry compared to the Northwest areas of the Island.

Ribeira Brava is very relaxing and beautiful. It has a good range of cafes and restaurants to choose from, a lovely small church and a fascinating museum about life on Madiera in the past.
