I was there with my wife and our British friends – it was their first visit to Romania, and they said it was the best holiday they’ve ever had! The location is beautiful and peaceful, with stunning views and fresh mountain air. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and well-equipped. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, kind, and helpful – they made us feel like family from the moment we arrived. Every detail was taken care of with warmth and care. We enjoyed every moment, from relaxing in the garden to exploring the nearby attractions like Peștera Muierii. It was truly an unforgettable experience, and we’re already planning to come back! Thank you, Pensiunea Tobo, for giving us such a perfect holiday – and for making our friends fall in love with Romania!

There is an amazing 10,000sqm park attached to the property, perfect for long walks in the shade, reading, barbecue and bonfire. The walk paths are lit by night with solar-power lighting. The place is quiet and relaxing, great breakfast.

Wonderful place with alpine atmosphere and great owner! Top position with great views and live outside fire pits. It has everything that you would need for self service. Great for hiking. I would definitely go there again.

Secure parking for motorcycle. Fantastic quiet location southern end of transalpina pass. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Room and food and wine amazing. Throughly recommend. Will definitely go back. Biker friendly.

Clean city. Very nice architecture and pedestrian center. Many tourist attractions in the area, the Constantin Brancusi sculptural ensemble, the Polovragi and Tismana monasteries, the Sohodolului and Oltetului gorges, the Muierilor Cave and many others. Restaurants that offer quality traditional food. Hanul Domnesc was my choice.

Hi. I couldn't say if Baia de Fier is the best for shopping or food as it's a secluded mountain village. The only bonus I found is it's close to the southern starting point of Transalpina (Novaci) and the accommodation was fairly affordable.

Tismana is a lovely area—very peaceful, traditional in nature, and full of charm. Everyone we met was kind and welcoming, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The town felt very safe and secure, perfect for families. There are two local supermarkets, several smaller shops, and a fantastic independent bakery with fresh pastries that we visited often. The monastery is beautiful and well worth a visit, and the nearby museum with its cave was an unexpected and fascinating surprise. While the area lacks a wide range of restaurants and bars, that can actually be a plus—it adds to the quiet charm of the place. And if you're after more dining options, it’s not a long drive to find something.

Wonderful location, Polovragi cave and Polovragi monastery...

Wonderful location, Polovragi cave and Polovragi monastery are two objectives you need to visit if you travel in Romania. Acess road very good. For eating and over night stay I recommend Castania guest house, very close to Polovragi monastery.

A very strong odour of chemicals (for the cleanup) - so I would not recommend it to the persons that are allergic as me. The view was ok, just the interior yard view. The size of the rooms, except the bathroom were ok. Excellent host, very friendly, but the neighbourhood is not too great if you plan on walking around.

Quiet resort in the mountains of Gorj county, Romania. Not many "attractions" in summer, but if you are after the mountain view and fresh air it is perfect for couple days stay. Farmer market on the way up from Novaci to Rânca (make sure you bring cash, as the shepherds don't take cards- yet. LOL).

I was on a pilgrimage to the monastery, so not really interested in nature or the village, but the surroundings are stunning of course. The village not so much, the locals' attention is more on profit than cleaningness, tidiness and onesty: the first shop inthe village made me buy 15kg of charcoal by saying there is no other shop further which was of course a trick, there where plenty 2kg packages in the next shop. Not very christian attitude.

Impressed by all means of how green and visitor friendly is this city. With beautiful parks - one more wild where you can find two of the Brancusi works and the second that is more austere, clean and very focussed on the infinite column of Brancusi. The city has a walking space with a lot of green and playing grounds for kids, in the center. Beautiful coffee shops on this walking area! The mountains can be spotted at a long distance as a promise of a cooler area! The building of Tudor Vladimirescu College is the most beautiful one as such I have ever seen!

Nice place, pretty simple, clean air, quiet (when no motorcyclists around). Not many "attractions" end of August, but as a busy person in a big city I do appreciate a little slow living now and then, to recharge my batteries. Very good food is available in the area. Organic stuff, homemade style.
