The location is ideal — just steps from a stunning, peaceful beach where I enjoyed morning walks and breathtaking sunsets. The area and the hotel felt very safe at all times, even in the evening. I truly appreciated the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. The hotel itself is modern, clean, and beautifully maintained. My room was spacious and cozy, with a lovely view and all the essentials for a restful stay. But the real highlight was the staff — incredibly friendly, professional, and genuinely caring. From check-in to check-out, they made me feel at home. They were always ready to help, offer local tips, or simply check in to make sure I was enjoying my stay. I had an absolutely wonderful stay at African Bungalows in Nungwi, Zanzibar. This cozy gem exceeded all my expectations. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going above and beyond to make sure guests feel at home. The food is absolutely delicious, every meal was a treat! The hotel is nestled in a beautiful garden that creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere with a lovely pool. And the hotel is just a one minute walk to the stunning beach. The rooms are clean, offering everything you need for a comfortable stay and the bed was very comfortable, I had the best sleep in a long time. Another standout feature is the generator so you never have to worry about power interruptions. If you’re looking for a perfect spot for relaxation with excellent food and service in Zanzibar, I highly recommend African Bungalows. I’ll definitely come back!

I paid cash on arrival for 11 nights.The hut was very hot and I wanted to leave the next day, but he would not refund me. I contacted booking.com 2 times, but never heard from them, so I was stuck there. The owner is a preacher and has a congregation just behind the huts, so there is a lot of noice many mornings and evenings and in between someone is practising the piano and he is not good.

Kiwengwa is an amazing place , only annoying this is the amount of African people that hassle you on the beach - men dressed as masi that are not from the the masi Maru tribe ( pretending they are ) and annoying you when you trying to enjoy a peaceful walk it is over bearing and no one wants that on their holiday - was most beaches in Zanzibar !!

Kendwa beach was definitely the best beach compared to Nungwi, especially the south part. Even in low tide it was easy to take a swim. Also the beach here is wider and feel less crowded. As on the complete stretch there were many people trying to sell you stuff but on the south part not so many ”permanent” sales people other than the ones having sheds. The Maasai roaming around are friendly but just say no with a smile and most will not be persistent in their effort to sell you something..

Matemwe is a perfect destination for anyone who wants peace...

Matemwe is a perfect destination for anyone who wants peace and quiet, but still has access to great activities. You can easily arrange dolphin watching and swimming tours – look for Captain Lucho, he helped us with everything and made the experience amazing. A beautiful and relaxing place to stay!

Michamvi has a mix of high end & more budget options, we all get to share the beach. Snorkeling trips, dolphin, sand bar & mangrove trips are available. Beach bars & restaurants to suit all.

I loved that it was a proper reflection of the Island in that you took home the beauty of the place and kindness of the people. It was not loud or noisy and had very few touristy hotels and vendors hassling you

This is not a touristy location... it is off the beaten...

This is not a touristy location... it is off the beaten track... a village, by the sea, with an increasing number of resorts being added. I hope it does not lose its charm to the crowds. This is a quiet, special place.
