Should you wish to venture out a bit further, the resort is a 10 minute beach walk from the small village of Pwani Mchangani, where you can find a liquor store, a grocery store, fresh food markets, and two excellent (and well-priced) restaurants. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast provided every morning, and found lunch and dinner offerings equally satisfying. Rooms are sprayed for mosquitoes every night, which is great. The main highlight of the resort was its staff: everybody was extremely kind, helpful, and generous. We can't wait to visit again!

Zanzibar was great. However, my expectations nd what I got were very different, not in a bad way, just different. Things don't function as efficiently in the rain so either don't go during the rainy season or hope it doesn't rain while you are there. It's a great city though. The people are really friendly and everyone knows each other which gives it a really homey feel. The history was also super cool to learn about. The sunsets were definitely the best I have seen in the world and white sandy beaches were up there as well (although, Diani in Kenya, still have my favourite beaches). Snorkelling was amazing and even had the unexpected chance of swimming with Dolphins. My suggestion would be to fly directly to Zanzibar. The ferry from Dar es Salaam was really long and as far as I am concerned, you're not missing much by not going to Dar es Salaam first.
I fell in love with this place! The people, the charm of the old buildings, the food, the ocean. It's an amazing place to visit. Just beware of the local street peddlers trying to sell you things. Some can be aggressive. All in all, I look forward yo visiting again! Try staying at the Doubletree or Zanzibar Serena. For indian-inspired cuisine and fresh cocktails, try The Silk Route. You'll be glad you did!
The village is small and the people welcoming. Though there are very few amenities (basic store, small post office, basic bakery, restaurants) it has everything you need for a stay on the beach. The beach is lovely and less occupied then other areas of Zanzibar. Perfect place to chill, but don’t expect much nightlife/activity in the village itself. You can arrange dive trips/island tours/dolphin watching in town or with hotels
I really enjoyed my stay. Zanzest was wonderfully relaxing inexpensive and the staff were super helpful. It is quite a distance away from the center of Zanzibar and of everything taxis were the most expensive part of the trip. Did a lot of sight seeing, swimming, drinking beer shandy and generally catching a great tan!
Beautiful tides and beaches. Must see location in Zanzibar. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between the real life outside vs what they offer in hotels. Common problem in Africa... still amazing local people!
The city exudes charm filled with centurie old buildings boasting Arabian architecture, as well as eastern influences entwined with African culture. People are friendly but at times can be overwhelming with so many offerings of tours. Zanzibar offers the most amazing beaches you will ever come across. The Safari Blu is a must on the tour list. Make sure you bargain before you do any shopping prices are always hiked up especially if you are a tourist.
Its lovely and quiet. You get a glimpse of the community, and it’s less expensive than up North. We lazed at the beach. Drank cocktails, ate prawns. Kite surfing is a big sport in this part of Zanzibar. Jambiani is just an hr drive from the airport. There isn’t much actuvity for kids to do in this part that is why we had a daytrip to Kendwa
Zanzibar City is a natural choice as either a destination or a stop on the way to one of the beach areas. It is full of history, plenty of lodging choices and lots of friendly waterfront or water-view bars and restaurants. We had only one full day in the city, and it was not enough for a good orientation. Two to three would have been much better. We took the halfday Stone Town walking tour and found it extremely informative and a good overview. It was arranged through our hotel (Al-Minar). We also took an short spice tour arranged by our hotel and wished we had done some research to choose one more to our liking or skipped it altogether. The tour we were on (perhaps all of them?) went to a sort of demonstration plantation, where we did get to see lots of our kitchen spices as nature supplies them. This is interesting. However, our tour included no history of the industry, no exposure to the processes of spice production (such as drying) or anything other than the plants themselves. Along the tour were many entrepreneurs, selling or offering products (oils, fruit) or demonstrations (shimmying up a coconut tree), for tips. We would have preferred something more informative and less commercial. Again, though, this is likely a function of the tour operator or even the individual guide. Because we were on a timetable, our tour was private ($40), including transportation and a local guide at the plantation. There are organized tours that last all day and include additional activities, which might have been more interesting. Overall, though, a worthwhile stop en route to the beach.
I read that Nungwi has more nightlife than other areas in Zanzibar, but it was still pretty lacking. There are several beachside bars, but it's definitely not a party place... Which was just fine for us. Nungwui has fine, white sand with clear turquoise water. Perfect beach and one of my favorites!
Zanzibar is a beautiful set of islands. Stone Town (in Zanzibar City) is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with plenty of beautiful sites to visit. Other islands with beautiful beaches, snorkelling, giant tortoises and peacocks are a short boat ride away. On the culinary side, plenty of seafood and spices are available. I stayed in Stone Town (expect for a short trip to Prison Island), where all is in a walkable distance.
Jambiani
We stayed in three different hotels and Mkeka Spice Lodge was by far the best. We have never eaten such a rich breakfast anywhere. The portions were huge and everything was delicious. The rooms are very clean, there is always hot water. The beach is only a few minutes walk. Hotel service is fantastic. when we were leaving we were sad to say goodbye to the staff who were always helpful and always made us laugh. The hotel is well guarded and you can feel very safe. If we come back to Zanzibar it's only to Mkeka Spice Lodge.❤
Customer service is not dead in 2023, it is alive and thriving at Malika Nungwi Hotel on Zanzibar. Khaled the manager works tirelessly to ensure his client’s needs are not only met, but exceeded to the minutest of details. The hotel and facilities are cool, clean and comfortable and the food fresh and delicious, but it is the staff that made it a memorable experience for me personally. Thank you to Khaled, Sophie, Neema and everyone at Malika. I will miss your smiles and warm hospitality and look forward to seeing you again.
The Hotel is wonderfull, the restaurant is the best we had in Zanzibar. It is super clean, has a good location in Jambiani and it has everything you need. The hosts are out of this world, they have been most helpful and they are going out of their way to help you with everything you need, best hotel owners we’ve seen in the last decade at least. I totally recommand this place, would rate it higher than 5 stars if i could, oh and did i tell you about how good the food is? It can compete with any major hotel in Europe
Paje
Best Location, a bit hidden in the tiny side alleys, at the same time in the middle of the Backpacking-Area of Zanzibar. 50m to the beach, 5-10min to the Clinic, Pharmacy, Copyshop or Supermarket. 1-2 Parties each day at different places at the beach. Reachable in 2-30min of walking. 5min to the Mainpartyspot (B4). Lots of chilling places in the Hostel. Good sweet chicken with hot sauce! The owner has an open ear for problems what needs to get solved. Beach to the left, tourist area, beach to the right empty.
I really enjoyed my stay at The Zanzibari Hotel and I am very impressed with the quality of service it had exceeded my expectations from the moment that I arrived at the hotel, the staff are very accommodating , friendly and my room is spectacular having a view of the sea. I also would like to add that the food was divine. Thank you so much to the whole team for your excellent service and for arranging the birthday surprise for me. I had a memorable stay ,Thank you very much and see you next time.
Our Zanzibar getaway at The Loop Hotel was simply wonderful. The staff's kindness and the immaculate room were outstanding. The local-inspired decor added a lovely touch. Breakfast, with those irresistible donuts, was a highlight - big thanks to the chefs! Special shout-out to the welcoming staff and reception team for making our stay memorable. The pool area was a true oasis. Highly recommended for an exceptional retreat. Can't wait for our next visit! Warm regards,
Jambiani
Beautiful view from the room we booked. Hotel has a guest manager who checks in on all guests, which is a nice touch. Hotel has 2 other hotels that they work with so they try to keep it interesting, with breakfast moving between the lodges. It's right on the beach so easy access to many restaurants and hotels in the area.. Water cooler for guests and glass bottle in room so you can refill water anytime you need, with the blazing heat in Zanzibar, this was a nice touch.
Hotel is very nice. I like the way it is as guests can feel real Africa. It is not typical modern hotel but resort with houses in African style, super charming. Garden is looking very nice and staff take care about every detail. Beach is definitely one of the best in Zanzibar. Location is really good and it is easy to make a tour from this hotel to any part of the island. Staff is simply amazing, always ready to assist and help. The best staff ever.
Bamboo Design Hotel is the place to stay if you are looking for peaceful and relaxing time. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, with a design that embodies modern looking, but keeps a touch of Zanzibar style, the views from the pool and restaurant are breathtaking, the staff is very nice, ready to help and they make you feel spoiled, and there is THE FOOD, which was the most delicious, from snacks, to breakfast, lunch and dinner - TASTY!
The V Hotel offered everything that we needed for holidays - friendly and supportive staff, privacy, close location to the astonishing sandy beach, clean room, place to meet new people, and good starting point for trips to Zanzibar (especially East and South coast). We very much enjoyed hotel terrace in the evenings. The hotel is very comfortable and well decorated. We have very nice memories of this small but very cosy hotel.
Kiwengwa
-Very friendly and helpful stuff (Special thanks for General Manager Mr. Aied Rizkalla, Chef Lotfy, Stella, Zabron and Said) -Flash Tour Guide Suleyman he is very professional. He arranged our tours with best price in Zanzibar. -Delicious food served. -Best honeymoon welcoming I had ever seen in a hotel or resort. -Hotel location is perfect. 45 min to every where on island. Hotel is perfect for family’s and couples.
Perfect stay in Mem Luxury Hotel, our best hotel in Zanzibar so far ! The room is nice, large and clean with hot shower and the wifi is working ! The staff is just amazing, really nice people always here to help and to assist you ! The swimming pool is wide and long The restaurant is also totally tasty, they know how to cook fishes perfectly and the breakfast is also big and good ! We recommend this hotel 👍
Jambiani
The place is perfect, we loved the last days we spent in Zanzibar at Zanzest Vegan Hotel. We were in the Lion room (superior with sea view, just beautiful!), big bed and really comfortable. The staff super kind and nice. We took lunch during our stay all days at the hotel because food was delicious and the place is just incredible. Perfect place to relax and enjoy the East Sea, we hope to repeat soon :)
My fist place in Zanzibar and it was great! Hotel is located and has everything you need + delicious breakfast. The rest can easily be arranged. Close to Baraka Aquarium-10 min walking. Want to thank the manager Neyo, Martin and Rachel for the wonderful stay, who were very friendly, welcoming and supportive and left me the best memories of Zanzibar. Will definitely come back and can only recommend!😊
Fantastic location on the Beach (Little bit of bumpy access road but it is in Zanzibar). Absolutely brilliant staff. Good food and wine, Sparkling clean pool and facilities. We were made to feel so welcome. Hotel brilliant at arranging any trips etc. and they have good local knowledge of better paces to go/visit etc, Probably the best Boutique Hotel I have ever stayed in
Paje Beach Apts & Hotel was our FAVORITE place to stay in Zanzibar!! Everything about it made our days there wonderful, from the warm and welcoming staff, to the location, pool, proximity to the beach, decoration, cleanliness, breakfast, the bar, live music, just everything! We are nostalgic about our days there and can't wait until we return.
Outstanding personnel and Really Nice Hotel. Rooms are really spacious. Location wise - have in mind that you are on 5 min walking distance (where locals houses are) from the beach. Hotelwise - little too expensive for Zanzibar, but staff is Amazing. All of them are super responsive and will take care of your smallest requests! Cudos guys!
We really enjoyed our stay at Zanzibar Palace Hotel. It was perfectly located for exploring Stone Town and felt very safe. It was also walking distance to the port/beach. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the room was lovely and comfortable, with a simple but tasty breakfast available every morning. Would happily stay again.
everything ! we’ve decided to come back for a few days after a very very bad experience (at the Baladin Hotel in Pingwee - don’t trust the reviews of this place that’s a total scam). Regina, Humphrey and all the team made our second stay at Villa Bluu perfect! thanks a lot for everything, best place in Zanzibar!!!
Paje
Hotel is situated on the beach, location is perfect. Bungalows are also very good. They have AC and very fast and good internet. We were also enjoying in the swimming pool. Breakfast is very good and all the staff is very friendly and helpfull. If we will come back to Zanzibar, we will return to this hotel.
