Babalao Bungalows has an outdoor swimming pool, garden, a shared lounge and terrace in Nungwi. I really loved this place !! The owners were so nice and friendly. It is a small place decorated with taste, even the rooms, lots of local things around remind you where you are. The breakfast is incredible as they change every day so it doesn’t get boring ;-). The tables in wood are like local boats. What a great idea !!! The guest are really international and it’s easy to get in touch with other people. They have a dog and a cat but very brave and discreet. It’s very close to the beach, restaurants etc The staff is also top and they always smile. There’s no need to look for another place if you come to Nungwi: Babalao is where you should stay.

They have multiple water sports you can do for free (clear kayak, paddle board, water bikes, etc.), and a dhow if you want to go snorkeling. The food at the restaurant, Casa Coco, was the cherry on top…great selection to choose from and the best Thai fried rice we have had at a non-Thai restaurant. Many thanks to Tarek, Alé, Yahya, and the whole Be Zanzibar family. Can’t recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back again soon!

Zanzibar was great. However, my expectations nd what I got were very different, not in a bad way, just different. Things don't function as efficiently in the rain so either don't go during the rainy season or hope it doesn't rain while you are there. It's a great city though. The people are really friendly and everyone knows each other which gives it a really homey feel. The history was also super cool to learn about. The sunsets were definitely the best I have seen in the world and white sandy beaches were up there as well (although, Diani in Kenya, still have my favourite beaches). Snorkelling was amazing and even had the unexpected chance of swimming with Dolphins. My suggestion would be to fly directly to Zanzibar. The ferry from Dar es Salaam was really long and as far as I am concerned, you're not missing much by not going to Dar es Salaam first.
I fell in love with this place! The people, the charm of the old buildings, the food, the ocean. It's an amazing place to visit. Just beware of the local street peddlers trying to sell you things. Some can be aggressive. All in all, I look forward yo visiting again! Try staying at the Doubletree or Zanzibar Serena. For indian-inspired cuisine and fresh cocktails, try The Silk Route. You'll be glad you did!
The village is small and the people welcoming. Though there are very few amenities (basic store, small post office, basic bakery, restaurants) it has everything you need for a stay on the beach. The beach is lovely and less occupied then other areas of Zanzibar. Perfect place to chill, but don’t expect much nightlife/activity in the village itself. You can arrange dive trips/island tours/dolphin watching in town or with hotels
I really enjoyed my stay. Zanzest was wonderfully relaxing inexpensive and the staff were super helpful. It is quite a distance away from the center of Zanzibar and of everything taxis were the most expensive part of the trip. Did a lot of sight seeing, swimming, drinking beer shandy and generally catching a great tan!
Beautiful tides and beaches. Must see location in Zanzibar. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between the real life outside vs what they offer in hotels. Common problem in Africa... still amazing local people!
The city exudes charm filled with centurie old buildings boasting Arabian architecture, as well as eastern influences entwined with African culture. People are friendly but at times can be overwhelming with so many offerings of tours. Zanzibar offers the most amazing beaches you will ever come across. The Safari Blu is a must on the tour list. Make sure you bargain before you do any shopping prices are always hiked up especially if you are a tourist.
Its lovely and quiet. You get a glimpse of the community, and it’s less expensive than up North. We lazed at the beach. Drank cocktails, ate prawns. Kite surfing is a big sport in this part of Zanzibar. Jambiani is just an hr drive from the airport. There isn’t much actuvity for kids to do in this part that is why we had a daytrip to Kendwa
Zanzibar City is a natural choice as either a destination or a stop on the way to one of the beach areas. It is full of history, plenty of lodging choices and lots of friendly waterfront or water-view bars and restaurants. We had only one full day in the city, and it was not enough for a good orientation. Two to three would have been much better. We took the halfday Stone Town walking tour and found it extremely informative and a good overview. It was arranged through our hotel (Al-Minar). We also took an short spice tour arranged by our hotel and wished we had done some research to choose one more to our liking or skipped it altogether. The tour we were on (perhaps all of them?) went to a sort of demonstration plantation, where we did get to see lots of our kitchen spices as nature supplies them. This is interesting. However, our tour included no history of the industry, no exposure to the processes of spice production (such as drying) or anything other than the plants themselves. Along the tour were many entrepreneurs, selling or offering products (oils, fruit) or demonstrations (shimmying up a coconut tree), for tips. We would have preferred something more informative and less commercial. Again, though, this is likely a function of the tour operator or even the individual guide. Because we were on a timetable, our tour was private ($40), including transportation and a local guide at the plantation. There are organized tours that last all day and include additional activities, which might have been more interesting. Overall, though, a worthwhile stop en route to the beach.
I read that Nungwi has more nightlife than other areas in Zanzibar, but it was still pretty lacking. There are several beachside bars, but it's definitely not a party place... Which was just fine for us. Nungwui has fine, white sand with clear turquoise water. Perfect beach and one of my favorites!
Zanzibar is a beautiful set of islands. Stone Town (in Zanzibar City) is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with plenty of beautiful sites to visit. Other islands with beautiful beaches, snorkelling, giant tortoises and peacocks are a short boat ride away. On the culinary side, plenty of seafood and spices are available. I stayed in Stone Town (expect for a short trip to Prison Island), where all is in a walkable distance.
I spent a night at Shaba Boutique Hotel before flying out of Zanzibar and it was perfect. I was able to check in a bit earlier and the room was stunning, the bed and all the decor felt true to Stone Town and the staff were so friendly and helpful in arranging transport to the airport as well. The breakfast was excellent in the morning. Location was great, during the night it can be intimidating walking the streets but it really isn't too far from the typical tourist spots. I would stay again in a heartbeat! Highly recommend.
Our Zanzibar getaway at The Loop Hotel was simply wonderful. The staff's kindness and the immaculate room were outstanding. The local-inspired decor added a lovely touch. Breakfast, with those irresistible donuts, was a highlight - big thanks to the chefs! Special shout-out to the welcoming staff and reception team for making our stay memorable. The pool area was a true oasis. Highly recommended for an exceptional retreat. Can't wait for our next visit! Warm regards,
I had an amazing experience at Warere Hotel! I was impressed by how clean and comfortable the room is. It truly felt like a home away from home. The food at the restaurant was absolutely delicious. The view from the room was breathtaking . the staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and professional, always going above and beyond to ensure my comfort. I highly recommend Warere Hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable stay in Zanzibar. I'll definitely be back!
We had a pleasant time at The Garten Living Hotel, we enjoyed their outstanding service, comfortable beds, and their location is just 6 min away to the beach and in the middle of paje, easy access to everything, very safe at night as they have full night security which it makes you feel safe and Home. Their food menu was really delicious comparing to all around restaurants in Zanzibar, Don't forget to try their Frozen mango passion drink, and the Classic Burger.
Staying at Z-Breeze Hotel in Zanzibar was an absolute pleasure. Falling asleep to the sound of the ocean was incredibly relaxing, and the rooms were tastefully decorated, capturing the island's charm. The food was fantastic, with tropical breakfasts that started our days perfectly. The staff were always ready to help, friendly, and genuinely made us feel at home. It's the kind of place where you can truly unwind and enjoy the laid-back vibes.
Kizimkazi
Hotel is beautiful and very green, feels like jungle. We came to Zanzibar for honeymoon and this was our first stop in Tanzania. They upgraded our villa to Jungle villa and it was a nice gesture from hotel. Except reception area, staff in the beach bar, restaurant, housekeeping, bar in lobby are nice, helpful and doing their best. Also in the evening there is acrobatic and music entertainment, they are the only nice thing to do in the evening.
Thank you for making our first stay in zanzibar memorable. Hotel arranged pick up for me and kept me updated all the way, driver was patient by wating for us , the manager is a gem checked if we ok. We were served drinks at 2am till 4am with no issues. Definately go to hotel when you land in zanzibar if you looking for a chilled homely stay with Good vibes and great people. My quality is about how well people treat me and that is value for money.
Bamboo Design Hotel is the place to stay if you are looking for peaceful and relaxing time. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning, with a design that embodies modern looking, but keeps a touch of Zanzibar style, the views from the pool and restaurant are breathtaking, the staff is very nice, ready to help and they make you feel spoiled, and there is THE FOOD, which was the most delicious, from snacks, to breakfast, lunch and dinner - TASTY!
Our stay at Equalia Rose Hotel in Jambiani, Zanzibar, was a mix of highs and lows. The beachfront location was amazing, with a room offering stunning views just steps from the beach. However, frequent power outages affected our stay, leading to poor Wi-Fi and an inconsistent water boiler. Despite these issues, the friendly staff did everything they could to help. The breakfast, while decent, lacked variety and was the same each day.
The V Hotel offered everything that we needed for holidays - friendly and supportive staff, privacy, close location to the astonishing sandy beach, clean room, place to meet new people, and good starting point for trips to Zanzibar (especially East and South coast). We very much enjoyed hotel terrace in the evenings. The hotel is very comfortable and well decorated. We have very nice memories of this small but very cosy hotel.
Kiwengwa
The Zanbluu Beach Hotel is a wonderful place to stay in Zanzibar. You can enjoy a very good breakfast in the morning and a good Dinner in the evening at the Main Hall which has a great view on the sea. The Facility was great and good managed. The quality of the food is very high and the kitchen has a lot of potential albeit minor mistakes to fix to realize this potential. The staff as well as the managers were very friendly.
Jambiani
We loved everything! The staff was very friendly and very helpful. We had a lovely stay in the La Luna Apartments. We enjoyed the air conditioning, it is a must-have in zanzibar. The property has two swimming pools and a pool bar which was very nice. The restaurant has the best food! We also enjoyed the Swahili night, it was very fun and it was great trying a variety of swahili dishes. Will definitely recommend!
Everything was perfect. All the staff was very helpful, especially Mody, the manager, who helped us with everything we needed. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was rich. We booked two excursions through the Hotel and the professional tour expert Lilian recommended the best experiences for us. We felt at home. If we come again to Zanzibar, we will definitely stay at Nungwi Ocean View!
Fantastic location on the Beach (Little bit of bumpy access road but it is in Zanzibar). Absolutely brilliant staff. Good food and wine, Sparkling clean pool and facilities. We were made to feel so welcome. Hotel brilliant at arranging any trips etc. and they have good local knowledge of better paces to go/visit etc, Probably the best Boutique Hotel I have ever stayed in
Best hotel we stayed in Zanzibar. Nice big rooms, very clean, good aircon, kettle in the room, nice view, good breakfast. After Paje we went to Kendwa but we wanted to come back as all it was much better in Paje and frendlier people. With the sea the tide was not so terrible, so we could swim in the Ocean every day. Hotel has also reasonble prices of food and alcoholic drinks.
We really enjoyed our stay at Varadero Zanzibar Hotel & Restaurant! The rooms was clean, food was excellent and offered a nice variety, and the staff were so friendly and it was easy to communicate with them in English and French. The hotel's closeness to the beach was the major perk! The beach was fabulously clean and quiet. We can't wait to be back next year!
Paje
We had a very nice welcome to this beautiful Hotel. Staff are very friendly. Spezial thanks for our waitre shaffy and collin. The Breakfast is very good with a lot of different food. Also, dinner was very varied some nights there was traditional cooking or bbq. The hotel is also very close to Zanzibar Kite Paradise - surf school. This hotel is recommendable!
Outstanding personnel and Really Nice Hotel. Rooms are really spacious. Location wise - have in mind that you are on 5 min walking distance (where locals houses are) from the beach. Hotelwise - little too expensive for Zanzibar, but staff is Amazing. All of them are super responsive and will take care of your smallest requests! Cudos guys!
Perfect place to stay. European standarts are not often found on the coast but the place has exceeded the expectations for the price paid. Rooms were clean, staff was super friendly. There were quite a few offers for tours arround Zanzibar which was not overpriced. Hotel has also provided airport shuttle service which was comfortable.
We had an amazing week here in Zanzibar, the Hotel is near the famous and cool Kiwengwa beach and the manager of the Hotel (Daniele) helped us for everything…tours, food, tips about the island every time impeccable, helpful and polite. Good Breakfast, lovely rooms in Zanzibar style. Everything nice! Thanks a lot!
