We love the warm hospitality of the staff- they are courteous and efficient. We really enjoyed the beautiful backyard- and the view behond- the hills, Ruwenzori Mountains, the sounds of the birds, the avocado tree, the traveller's palm in the mornings and evenings. The hotel is also beautifully decorated with local crafts and artwork. The food is also excellent- including their brick oven pizza.

Amazing accommodation in breathtaking location. I luckily happened to coincide with Chelo and Eva, the founders of the project, whom extensively explained the project to me and made me feel at home. The staff is amazing and very detail oriented. You’ll receive a brilliant service during the stay. Thanks to Asunta and the rest of the staff. The food was delicious! There are many activity options to do around, where you can engage with the community and engage with the local people while having a positive impact. I got the chance to do a tour with John, their local guide, who was happy to answer all my questions with a very detailed explanation.

The staff at the Cottage provided superlative quality services! They were always helpful and went beyond what I would consider is reasonable. For example, the staff prepared a breakfast pack of coffee, toast and eggs for me when I had a 5am start. The food was excellent, dinners were like a gourmet restaurant for a modest price.

Fort Portal is a quieter city than the Capital Kampala.

Fort Portal is a quieter city than the Capital Kampala. It's doesn't have as many food and drink options and is really about the tourism around the western region. Because of this tourist are drawn to expensive lodges, which can isolate them by providing the luxuries that they are accustomed to. If you don't have the budget for lodges (or desire), I recommend staying in some of the smaller hotels and guest houses that are outside of Fort Portal City, and take day trips into town. Your more likely to enjoy more of the region and meet and connect with the local and expat communities. Not to mention, you can put the money you saved on luxury lodges to enjoy the big draw to this area...Rwenzori mountains, Kibale forest, Chimpanzees, Crater Lakes and lots for the nature lovers.

Kabarole is a land of rolling hills and lakes - an absolutely stunning landscape that feels quietly cinematic. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Flower Hill Farm: serene, expansive views, and exceptional value for money. As of December 2025, the road from Kampala to Kabarole was still under construction, with some truly rough sections that made the journey longer than expected (around six hours). Fingers crossed the works are completed soon because once you arrive, the destination is more than worth it. My stay was short, only 2 days so focussed on rest. On my next trip planning on doing some kayaking. The Flower Hill Farm owners have lots of great local recommendations.

The location was in the jungle with direct access to Kabale...

The location was in the jungle with direct access to Kabale national park national Park There were 300 acres of land tucked within rolling mountains with beautiful views. The restaurant and main open areas were very nice with open seating and nice views. There was a lot of woodwork, along with a new swimming pool it was being put in. As you walk back to your individual canopy rooms there were a long nicely gravel pathways. The rooms were very nice keeping within the style of being in the park we did go on a chimpanzee tracking tour from this location, which was extremely well done and we were able to see many of the chimpanzees in their environment. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a relaxing time to get away sitting on your covered deck with wooden flooring and protection from the rain making it the perfect bungalow setting. The staff was more than kind and always accommodating, they were there to help and serve. It’s nice when you go to a place and be treated kindly. I would definitely recommend this location and experience to anyone else wanting to get a true experience of being in a jungle setting with all sorts of different plans and birds. The food was excellent and we enjoyed our stay very much. Loy Ugabda

Fort Portal was unusually hot, but whole of Uganda was hot...

Fort Portal was unusually hot, but whole of Uganda was hot during this period. We visited a tea estate which was so beautiful and neatly maintained. The town was clean and all the city roads are paved. They should improve the first portion of Bundi Bujoi road which is unkempt. We visited Amabere caves and the waterfall.

lots and lots to see and do if you are into wildlife,...

lots and lots to see and do if you are into wildlife, history and general interest. Kibale Nat Park, Semliki Nat Park, Rwenzori Nat Park are all within commutable distance. If you have time you can even do a day trip to Queen Elzabeth Park but you will need avery early start. Fort Portal centre of town is being re-tarmacked so quite dusty but it will be nice when the works are finished. Gardens Restaurant has fantastic a la carte and large portions. Dont miss the smoked beef in groundnut sauce....
