this was our first time to stay in a cabin and we absolutely enjoyed it. What a beautiful view outside our windows! We also ate at the Rim Rock Restaurant and it was really a wonderful experience. Chef prepared food out in the middle of “nowhere”! And both our dishes were delish. We wish we were staying longer because we would like to try some of the other dishes on the menu.

Maybe the best place I’ve ever stayed. I felt like I was in a palace. I took a group hiking, and my car broke down. Scott, the owner went out into the desert, picked us up and drove us all the way to Kanab. He spent half a day trying to help us and he did not charge a penny. Good Samaritan on steroids. You must stay here.

Torrey is a small rural town with limited services but sits adjacent to the Capital Reef National Park. Access is very good and the surrounding area is quite beautiful. People are very friendly and the local services are good despite the limited number of options for restaurants and shopping.

Plenty of outdoor activities, including hiking- Calf Creek Falls is always popular. Great views for photography or painting. Good places to eat, if they are open. Several shops selling outdoor gear as well as tour operators.

We were on a 5 week cross country vacation and saw a lot of hotels along the way...this was by far one of the best. This hotel has been newly renovated and the rooms are very inviting. The owners were very accommodating. Loa is a small town and everyone was very friendly. I would stay here again and recommend anyone looking at hotels between the Arches and Canyonland should definitely pick this one. You will not be disappointed!

Hanksville has lots of wonderful outdoor activities in and around the town, particularly Capitol Reef National Park and Goblin Valley State Park. If you aren't outdoorsy or active, there might not be much to do for you. The town itself is quite small, and not everything is open in the winter. It is cute and has character, but is not exactly exciting.

If you like to explore the desert, there are plenty of places to go off the beaten path. If you're not comfortable with that, there's a lot of beauty close to the road too. Hell's Backbone Grill was worth the splurge - delicious food and they even made us a special request cocktail that tasted better than the typical one you would get somewhere else.

Make a reservation for Hunt and Gather Restaurant for dinner. Chuckwagon General Store has a great deli section for lunch. Drive all of the scenic drive, watch the movie at the visitor center, visit the Gifford House early for pie. If you are there in season pick fruit in the orchard.

Of all the small towns in America, Loa has to be one of the best. Not a lot of activity as it is very small (no Walmart - so that's good). There is a really nice supermarket and a couple of gas stations. But what a surprisingly beautiful green valley that makes up much of Wayne County! It is also close to Capitol Reef National Park and you can go on to other Southern Utah parks and red rock country - or lots of other colors of rocks. I admit I have ancestors from Loa, but I have ancestors from a lot of small places that aren't nearly this nice, so I highly recommend.

The little town of Hanksville (pop. 1800), in the heart of Southern Utah, near Goblin Valley State Park (must see!) and not far from Capitol Reef National Park, is a surprising gem. Home of an intriguing collection of scrap-metal dinosaurs, now presented in the context of peace and spirituality (their creator is deceased), it also sports a seriously good rock shop and the Bull Mountain Market that features an art gallery (!), where I found two pieces I just had to buy (cheap!) by Nathan Maire, who also sells polished fossils and geodes.
