We travel to Colorado Springs for the balloon fest, and we’re disappointed that the balloons were unable to launch or glow on our first day there, but made use of our time seeing the beautiful garden of the gods and going downtown to see the Humpty Dumpty’s. We always enjoy Manitou Springs and visited there during their arts festival and walked around downtown shopping. Fun downtown area. The "riverwalk" is a nice addition that I hadn't experienced in past visits. Great to see the old pizza place and taffy shop still in existence. The visitor center free parking is a super nice thing to have for this town. I wish other tourism based communities would follow suit. Grand Junction has lots of outdoor activities. Hiking - either the National Monument Mesas or along the Colorado River. Fishing along the river, mountain drives up to Grand Mesa, and exploring great little towns - Palisades which has one of the best Sunday Farmers Markets in the US. Peach Season (Mid Aug Mid Sept) is awesome. Also check out the rodeo in Fruita - every Tuesday night! We stayed at the Doubletree in Ifill in Aurora and it was a convenient location to the Wings Over the Rockies Museum (recommend), the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (recommend) and Stanley Marketplace (also recommend). Also, don't miss Blue Pan Pizza. We had the Detroit style pizza and I'm still thinking about it! Don't be put off by the crazy disinformation about Aurora. Fort Collins has a vibrant city center with almost no shuttered businesses. There were plenty of decent restaurants (not so much the big Mexican one on the corner) and things to do and see. My first wife was from here but passed away in 1998. She would be shocked at how much this city has grown since our last visit in 1995. If I had to live in a city, I could do a million times worse. Location is great!
Location is great! Close to dining options (Brothers Bar B Q is delish), right off of I25 but no traffic noise, which also made it easy to get to where we needed to be. Room spacious and clean.
