The bedding was so comfortable, we didn't want to leave. Free parking in this gated accommodation complex. Everything you could want for your stay in Oudtshoorn - centrally located. Die Opstal is a BEAUTIFUL property, run by beautiful people!. We were the only guests on the night we stayed - but they still went out of their way to prepare the most incredible dinner and breakfast for us.
It was well worth the big detour on our roadtrip, to finally get to experience Die Opstal...

The hosts were very flexible on an early checkin and also on dietary concerns. They were also quick to upgrade the room stay. Very easy to work with and a beautiful property. The AC was great and the power was on despite blackouts nearby. They also were not trying to upcharge me for the special meal or for an Ostrich Farm tour in addition to the Meerkats.

This place is fantastic. It is situated in the middle of the mountain where there are only trees and animals around. The chalet has a good size, clean and with its own porch for you to sit and relax. The owners are extremely nice. They go above and beyond to make sure you have a memorable stay with them. They also give tips about places to visit.

Stayed in Mae West, perfectly situated to lie on the deck next to splash pool and look out onto the mountains. Had clear skies in the evening which made stargazing absolutely spectacular. Unit has small fridge and pod coffee machine which was not listed on Booking.com, had I known this I would have brought along some coffee pods.

Location was excellent. Very friendly staff. Beautiful views. Enough things to keep us buzy in the three days we were there. Rooms were big enough and have everything you need in. Love the private balcony as well. We will be using Wilgewandel again and tell our friends about it.

Easy to find location, the staff were so helpful and friendly. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds comfy and warm, the shower was nice and hot. The views were absolutely exceptional—we even had a bird come visit us for breakfast!

Absolutely love Outdshoorn with all the activities and...
Absolutely love Outdshoorn with all the activities and convenience of all you need within the town. Highly recommend a bit of a drive out of town to visit the Red Berry Farm for the most delicious strawberry shakes, interesting maze experience and fun for the kids. Wilgevandel is a must for a camel ride and more fun for the kids. Then less than a km away is the Cango Caves with such knowledgeable tour guides to share the rich history behind the caves. Be sure to visit Chandelier for a chance to meet giraffes up close and the restaurant serves the most delicious, tasty pizza's!

Unfortunately, we were there on a Monday and most restaurants close at 17:00 on a Monday. However, our host recommended we have dinner at the Karoo Art Hotel with a choice of fine dining or pub dinner. We choose pub dinner, which was delicious. Beautiful trail walks can be found around the farms. All-in-all a wonderful trip.

The only negative is the number of young coloured men asking to do and be useful when theyo are not required to do anything. One feels badgered.

We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale,...
We should have called the farm manager from Barrydale, because when we arrived at the locked farm gate, we found there was no reception. We couldn't reach him, and it was soon getting dark, so we had to keep driving until we got signal again, which only took five minutes. Wann, the manager, was soon there and opened the gate to paradise for us... remote, behind two other farms, we were able to spend comfortable days in this Karoo resort. Wann was always available, and one evening his wife cooked us a delicious meal. A river, a hot tub, an ice bath, peace and quiet, and an endless sky—what more could you want? This is the place to be for anyone needing a break. For more romance, under the stars, bring candles and reading lamps.

The area surrounding De Rust is beautiful, especially the mountain passes, which have stunning scenery and lots of hiking opportunities. There are very few shops or restaurants in De Rust, but Oudtshoorn is just a easy 30km drive away and this has plenty of shops, restaurants and activities. Staying on a farm between the Meiringspoort pass and De Rust was perfect though. Just buy plenty of groceries before you get there!

Uniondale was the centre point of our journey distance wise - so convenient . Also we had not been there before so it made an interesting stop over. Scenery was stunning and the road excellent. Hotel built in 1832 (I understand). Uniondale is about 14 kms off main road and entry and exit are through two mountain passes which were most attractive.

It was so relaxing. Great pool. Room had everything you needed Lovely staff and it was also lovely to relax at night and have dinner at the hotel. Food was to our liking. Enjoyed our stay so much we extended it an extra night.

From the main road it looks like just another dusty deserted Karoo town. What a pleasant surprise on turning off into the little town. We had a superb breakfast at @Stuff and met some interesting locals. The town is experiencing a resurgence and is intersting, well maintained and spotlessly clean.

Oudtshoorn will definitely become our permanent home one day. The people there are just on a different vibe. They are friendly and polite even if the weather reaches highs in the 40s.

Lovely quiet country village.
Lovely quiet country village. Interesting little shops & great 2nd hand bookshop. Great walks/hikes & excellent restaurants (highly recommend "Mud"). Lots of interesting history.
