Open from August 2018, featuring Mount Asama views and a single-star Michelin restaurant, Le Grand Karuizawa Hotel and Resort is located in Karuizawa. It was in a beautiful setting with natural beauty all around. The staff were always friendly and polite. Service was perfect. The room was very comfortable and stylish.

I had heard that the front desk would be unstaffed during the summer season, but both check-in and check-out were smooth and handled by staff, who even helped bring our luggage to the room. It was also really convenient to be able to contact the front desk not only by room phone but also through WhatsApp. The room had almost everything we needed for daily living, and we were able to fully relax as if we were at home. The lush green views from each room were absolutely beautiful and added to the peaceful atmosphere. Since the property is located right in front of the slopes, I’d love to come back during the winter season as well.

Incredible service and incredible overall experience. It's like staying in a fancy cabin in the snow. The lounge area with the giant fireplace is awesome, very nice food, very spacious rooms and first class facilities such as the onsens and indoor swimming pool. The decor could be interpreted as dated (as other reviews have stated) but we felt this simply adds to the warmth and cosiness of the establishment. The service here is seriously next level and it is fantastic value for money.

I had a crisis. They were very helpful. The breakfast was delicious. Loved the view of the lake from my room!

Always a home away from home when travelling to Japan! Welcoming staff, always a warm fire and never too much trouble to ask for a lift back to the station. Have stayed here multiple times now and we look forward to rest and relaxation with the onsens and time spent in the forests of Karuizawa.
