The location was great because it is only a few minutes walk to the train station as well as city center. We took the Bernina Express bus from Tirano to Lugano. From the Lugano bus station, cross the street and walk along the sidewalk towards the train station until you see the ramp that leads to the hotel. The hotel sign is hard to see as it is blocked by overgrown trees. The room we stayed at was not spacious enough for us and our luggages but we didn’t mind it since we stayed there only for one night and it’s a very well maintained and clean hotel. Breakfast was just the typical Swiss breakfast including but not limited to assorted bread, cheeses, bacon, scrambled eggs, cut up fruits.

Excellent location (just a short walk down the hill from the train station), wonderful staff, delicious breakfast! We enjoyed our stay very much! The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of food to chose from during breakfast and we received answers to all the questions we had. The hotel has its own history which we found very interesting to see in all the pictures that were up on the walls.

The location is just in front of the Lugano station. It was in easy reach for me. The room was very spacious and clean and had the perfect view of the mountain. The staffs were very friendly and helpful and provided all information about Ticino.

I cannot thank enough to all the staff of Hotel Federale, they are all AMAZING and not only well prepared for their job, but they take care of each customer with heart, trying their best to make the staying a wonderful experience. The staff at reception is fantastic, during our stay each one took time to ask if we are ok, took on their one initiative to bring a baby bed in our room, the restaurant staff was every day very careful that our baby was eating and was sitting comfortable. Thank you to all and for sure we will be back in not too long time from now ❤️🤗

I did not know the room is off the Hotel property in a seperate location about 200 mters downhill. Had I knew that, I would probably book a different type of room so I can use hotel amenity. FOr that reason, we did not take advantage of the hotel breakfast and resturant, bar.... We were there just in time for Lugano fall festival, It was a fun experience but and late night drunken tourist made loud noise all night....

This is an excellent 3 star hotel, in a few aspects in my opinion a 4 star! What did I like: professional staff, you can tell they’ve been in this hotel for several years and they know what they are doing, very very friendly, especially the lady serving our coffee for breakfast, what a joy to start the day with someone so nice serving you! Good solid breakfast, less variety but good quality products, which I prefer. Very clean, our room was spotless, comfortable beds. We stayed in the comfort room with balcony. TV is placed in the right spot, bathroom a bit small but had everything we needed.

A small thing is you can't leave the windows open at night due to the traffic noise. However, the windows and doors seal very well, so it is quiet with them closed.

The location is great between the station and the town and our room had a lovely lake view. Easy to walk everywhere. Everything was clean and very comfortable.

Hotel is a bit dated and in need of an update but the location more than compensates for this.

Location!! Short walk to the train station and a one minute walk from the vernacular stop that takes you up or down the hill. As you are high up the view is wonderful but still only a short walk to the lively restaurant and shopping area as well as the lakefront. Andreas in reception was wonderful, so welcoming and very helpful.

The positive of it being close to the train station is also a small negative since it’s too loud to sleep with the windows open at night, but we didn’t hear any noise with the windows closed.

Great location if you are traveling by train and don’t want to lug your luggage up and down the hill (the train station is on top of the hill and the hotel is a short walk below). We had a panoramic room with a balcony and a great view of the lake, old town, and bell tower - beautiful. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.
