Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing.
A fine hotel. My room was stylish, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The kettle was a nice touch. The buffet breakfast had a great selection of good food. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill above the city. Great views and a country feel. Relying on public transport to get there, as I did, should not normally be a problem as Bilbobus A7 stops outside the hotel. Unfortunately at the time of my stay (April 2024) Bilbobuses were on indefinite weekday strike, which meant a taxi from central Bilbao or a walk from the nearest metro station - Deutsu. If walking, a free 24 hour cable car gets you from Deutsu to the hillside community of Arangoiti and the Berrizbidea path leads from there up to the hotel.

United KingdomSloping roofs in the attic apartment we were in. It was nice to have all the space but guests need to be careful not to bang their heads on the roof rafters. The shower would benefit from upgrading how it is fixed to the wall.
Good location. Excellent hosts. It’s a bit of a trek into Bilbao but we didn’t mind that as we enjoy walking. Excellent views over Bilbao. Hosts were very welcoming and communicated well in English, taking time to give advice on the best ways to get to and from Bilbao.

United KingdomIt is awkward to sightsee without a car because the bus only comes once an hour. However you can walk down into town in only 15-20 minutes then plan ahead to get the bus back (or walk uphill but may take a little longer!)
Amazing view and super friendly manager. We felt very welcomed.

United StatesNothing in particular.
Location was not near the city, but the low cost funicula was within walking distance from the lodging. We saved time by driving to it since parking is free. We used it both days, it was very convenient and saved travel and parking in the city. It ends very near the Gugenheim Museum.

TurkeyIt was a very nice stay, our only problem was that since the room was on the top floor we couldn’t stand normally because our heads were bumping the ceiling all the time. It was a disturbing stay for our necks but apart from that everything was great.
Very clean and an amazing scenery.

United KingdomAll was good
The hotel was out of the city but had an excellent view of Bilboa! Great way to enjoy a city but feel like you are in the countryside. The funicular was a good 25 minutes walk from the hotel which we liked as it meant the car was safe while we explored Bilboa city. Good taxi service of an evening too! The hotel breakfast was excellent ...lots of choice and good value for 10 euros each. We would stay again when we visit Bilboa.

United KingdomA very minor point... The bed and headboard were separate, so that the bed slid away when reading in bed.
It was exactly as described. Very helpful staff, and a good choice of food for breakfast. Also, there was the bonus of an EV charger in the hotel car park. Great panoramic views of Bilbao from the bedroom.

NetherlandsLittle advice: When you arrive at the bus station (long-distance buses), taking a taxi to the hotel is the only real option. The bus you need does not stop at that station. (It does run near the train station.)
Quiet, nice, clean hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. No bar, but the breakfast is nice, and beer or soft drink is available. It's a bit farther from the centre (actually much above it). But there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel. Another option is to walk down the road toward a lower part of the city (where also are a few bars, with an excellent view of the city below), then take the cute little elevator/train to again a level lower, and from there the metro.

United KingdomGreat stay! We chose the hotel for its parking – above ground, easy access, loads of space for larger vehicles (we were in a VW California), it even has a view. But we were very happy with our room, which had a small balcony – just big enough for a table and two chairs, overlooking Bilbao – and a walk-in shower. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel on a circular route that takes about 20 minutes or so to travel directly to the old town, via the funicular railway. We took the funicular into town and walked about 15 mins along the river to the Guggenheim. Loved Bilbao. Loved Hotel Artetxe. Would stay again.

United KingdomIt was a pity they did not have a restaurant as it was such a beautiful location - but there was a bar just across the road and a local restaurant only 2.5 km away
Delightfully helpful staff, provided a safe place for our bikes and recommended an excellent local restaurant - with clear directions how to get there. Location was perfect and the view of bilbao from the bedroom window and garden was spectacular.

United StatesI can’t complain about anything, everything was perfect.
This location was close to the airport and overlooking Bilbao City proper, but nice and quiet to rest and sleep at night. The room was absolutely gorgeous. The front desk was so helpful and kind with my broken Spanish. Thankfully she was fluent in English! And they even offered gluten free breakfast options separate from the gluten ones for us coeliacs!
