Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdom1) The walk from the chateau to separate restaurant and pool in the mill buildings, whilst relatively short (around 400 yards), is rather steep and the return uphill journey might not suit the less fit. 2) The separate ensuite toilet was in a very small room, more like cupboard, and people larger than me ( I am 5'10'') would struggle to close the door.
Lovely historic chateau in beautiful countryside surrounded by its own large walled and gated estate. Whilst I can see why some reviewers might call it shabby to us it was more a delightful, authentic, quirky ancestral home. Our standard double room (30 Heloise) in the main chateau was a good size and unlike the communal hallways and drawing room was modern with a large ensuite shower in an area open to the bedroom. The ensuite toilet was in a separate very small room. Very easy carparking within the inner walled area directly outside the chateau. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant was situated in the separate mill buildings, a short walk away from the chateau, which were also characterful with large seated terraces overlooking the river, garden and outside swimming pool. Both evening dinner (reasonable choice from set menu) and breakfast (served to table) were prebooked and very good. The wine list was large and although all drinks are on the expensive side there was a good range of prices to suit most budgets.

United KingdomThis is a beautiful location, cute little hamlet set in epic Normandy countryside. The hotel itself is geared to pleasure - excellent food, really excellent, beautiful grounds and really friendly staff. There is also a very high end spa to boot. The place would be great for an indulgent long weekend. Would also be a great wedding/party venue. The rooms are fine, not exceptional, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a little disappointing in terms of being quite no frills.

United KingdomThe pool was awful - not clean for swimming at all. The rooms a little shabby and outdated. Shower in room was just a hose tap over a bath tub so you had to sit down to use it.
This is a nice hotel but quite expensive for what you get. Breakfast was very good. Service was fine. Location and surroundings are lovely.

United KingdomOur room did not have a shower, just a bath. Service for drinks was a little slow. Dinner was expensive - the menu fixe was €49, fair enough, but that only included one choice of each course. The other choices included a hefty supplement, such as €20 for rack of lamb and €10 for Millefeuille. The food was very good, bar the Millefeuille which was not the best I've had (overcooked) and not worth the extra money.
The location is fabulous. The buildings are very characterful. There is plenty of outside space to sit by the river. Beds are very comfortable, our room, in the watermill, was very spacious, light and airy with good views over the stream. Staff are very friendly. Food was good (but see below). There is a pool, we didn't get time to use it but out looks nice and also a sauna/steam room are available - this was another €28, which we didn't feel was worth it for the 1 night we were there

United KingdomThe bathroom needed a decor update. A shower curtain in front of the toilet cubicle (no door!) and lack of a modern shower with an overhead shower (I don't call a shower attached to the bath taps a shower) were the prime offenders. There was a window in the bathroom that looked into the bedroom (& visa versa) which was very odd. The window ledge in the bedroom was directly above the bed which meant the potential for hitting your head on it was very high, especially if you are tall (and did happen as my partner is 6ft 5"). The window ledge in the bedroom should be removed as it is potentially dangerous (as it appeared to be made of marble?). The wardrobe door in the bedroom was not finished, it was not properly aligned to the side of the wardrobe (overhung) and the chipboard was clearly visible as the side of the door had not been covered with a veneer (like the front & back of the door). Details matter as people notice and at approx €200 per night needs to be better. I did check the hotel website and whilst pictures of the bedrooms exist there are none of the bathrooms. Wine in the restaurant was expensive. Given that the Loire Valley is just down the road, and the Champagne region not that far away I could see little justification for the pricing (except possibly for the proximity of Paris and presence of motorsport enthusiasts some of whom, judging from the contents of the car park, would not "bat an eyelid"). A glass of champagne in a Micheline starred restaurant in Belcastel (near Rodez) was cheaper than at the Domaine de Villeray! As the hotel is less than 50km from the Le Mans racing circuit it is popular with motorsports enthusiasts, so check the Le Mans calendar before booking as the hotel gets very busy (we didn't). The restaurant is located in the Mill part of the hotel, some bedrooms are located in the Chateau part of the hotel which is located about 100m away, near the top of a 16% hill.
A lovely property located in a charming French village of Villeray. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our complaint about the room (primarily the bathroom) was dealt with well and we were invited to see another room. As we were only staying for 3 nights we decided to stay in our allocated room. Very comfortable bed so a good nights sleep after a long day travelling. The set price menu included in our rate was very good in terms of both choice and quality. We were travelling with bicycles and the hotel provided a secure location in which to store them as requested at the time of booking. A good area for walking and cycling, and not far from the Le Mans racing circuit (a plus or a minus depending on your point of view).

NetherlandsGreat location, great room, very comfortable. We are a big family so we booked two rooms. Unfortunately they were not close together. Not a big problem but the rooms are located in different buildings. We didn’t have breakfast because we thought it was quite expensive with 4 kids. I would recommend this place as a great place to stay for couples without kids.

United KingdomOur room in the chateau was modern and badly finished (like a botched DIY job) and quite scruffy, not what I was expecting at all. We arrived on a motorbike, unloaded only to find the reception was 250m down the hill.
The chateau looks amazing and the surrounding area is lovely, lots of car parking and you can use a pool and canoes free of charge. Nice bar and food. Did not have breakfast. The room badly let it down.

FranceOur double bed at the Chateau had 2 single mattresses (including one with a plastic / noisy mattress cover) which was uncomfortable. The staff at the spa were not particularly friendly and we were disappointed with our massages and reflexology sessions.
Idyllic surroundings and wonderful to stay in a beautiful Chateau with a nice breakfast. The spa nextdoor has very good facilities. The onsite restaurant (250m down the road) was very cosy with great food and wine and the owners and staff were very professional and accommodating.
