The location is a little bit off, 15-20 min walk from the city center. The metro is however close and buses from outside the hotel take you half way down-town. The nearby surroundings a bit disheartening with many deserted and decaying buildings.

Everything was splendid, except the weather. But we couldn't blame the hotel for that... The garden is a lovely place in good weather and the hotel building is something of its own. Don't forget to study the fantastic parquet floors and the decorations! Small but sufficient room (in the tower), very good beds, good breakfast and no noise.

The staff were brilliant and so helpful. The building has so much character. It’s a total one off. The royal suite is wonderful. The hotel went above and beyond when we needed to go home early.

    What's not to like?

Incredible upkeep on 200 year old building. Very special parquet floors, marquetry, moldings, beveled glass, tilework, well manicured garden, tower rooms, lovely breakfast buffet.

The room was very small. Lots of stairs to climb.

It’s a lovely property with a mix of room types. The breakfast room was beautiful and the food good. The staff was very helpful. Not too far a walk to catch the metro.

Unfortunately, someone accidentally turned off the power to our room in the night. As a CPAP user, this was not fun.

Fun to feel like you’re sleeping in a museum! Breakfast was excellent.

The place is conveniently placed near a metro stop, just in front of a bus stop and just a few minutes walking from good restaurants and all the best Porto has to offer. Parking is behind gates, which is good when you leave your car unused for a couple of days. Nice breakfast in the old building and super helpful staff. Very quiet at night, and with a nice garden that should be great in the right season (we were there in February, with the rain...). The room we had was ample, in a new annex, so it lacked a bit of character, but clean and comfortable. Next time we'll try a room in the old building.

The only thing that might have been imperfect is the shower head. It was a little worn out, so a bit of water would come out through the side and you would get less pressure. It didn't upset me at all though, as the stay was incredibly pleasant overall, I am just leaving this here so it can be checked for the future visitors. This is such a minor detail, though, everything else was perfect!

The staff was exceptionally nice. The castle is really charming. Since the hotel was not too busy, as we travelled in low season, we got a free room upgrade and happened to stay at a marvelous suite with a huge balcony with a view over Porto. Jorge who greeted us upon arrival was very helpful and kind and the lady who served breakfast was exceptionally sweet and told us a bit of the history of the hotel. The breakfast was really tasty too! The room was very comfortable and clean. It is definitely one of the nicest hotels we've stayed at and we've stayed at many hotels all around the world due to our work. It feels more than a hotel, it has soul and feels almost like a home. Would love to come back one day!
