How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

My room under the roof was a bit small for all my stuff...

The breakfast was a bit disappointing, especially after the wonderful evening meal. I am not so keen on carpeted bathrooms.
Very comfortable room and good shower . Evening meal was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location was ideal for our visit to Nairn County FC and the Nairn Games.

Very nice hotel with nice service. Nice room, comfortable beds. Parking quite tight, nice restaurant, although Italian, you won't eat pizza here. Convenient location, very nice service during breakfast, which was tasty.

Bathroom could do with a refit especially the shower, not much heat from the shower and quite a tight space. I was only staying one night and it was adequate. It would be beneficial for guests to know that the portion sizes for meals are large before ordering a starter AND a main. The starter would have been enough for me. Also in this day and age EVERY restaurant should have containers to take away any leftovers. If there is anything I hate more in this world it is food waste. After quite a bit of discussion and at one stage of offering to purchase the plate a container was made available.
Location of the hotel is very close to the town centre but far enough away for peace and quiet. Restaurant is amazing although the portion sizes of the meals are massive. If there isn't space in the parking area you can park safely in the street. Restaurant food is great.

Very dated decor especially the stairway,a lot of stairs with a heavy suitcase.especially if on top floor and most off them are creaky,could hear everyone coming up and down them.breakfast was limited but what I got was good.tired entrance,a couple of tables outside would have been nice to enjoy the sunshine.

The room was nice but a little warm, the curtains didn't cover the entire window and the room itself could use a slightly bigger TV screen and a fresh coat of pain. I know, they are minor things, but for the price of the room, expected these things to be there.
The room was spacious, staff was really friendly and the food in the restaurant (both evening and breakfast) was amazing. Small walk to a supermarkt to get everything you need for a few drinks in the room.

Hotel is on busy road so traffic noise is noticeable. I love birds and bird song but the seagulls seemed to squabble all night!
Delightful hostess, excellent breakfasts, comfy beds, very clean, helpful staff, close to town. Top sheet on bed and face cloths in bathroom!

Breakfast excellent, as was service. It was homely, old, very traditional. Just what I want in an hotel. Eschewed modernism. I wish they were all like that. (But I am no doubt in a small minority who think like that.) Actually, the Royal Hotel, Forfar was a bit like that.

The door to my room had to have the lock changed and the plumbing needs to be looked at. The toilet made a loud banging noise when flushed.
