Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNeed to get the basics right. For £162 for one night we got a lumpy, uncomfortable mattress, pillows like rocks and substandard bathroom facilities inc difficult to flush wc, shower door that was hard to open and close and hot water that took an age to come through. The communal areas notably the stairwells are in need of refurb, especially the thread-bear carpets.
Fabulous location and the gardens absolutely beautiful (even in the rain). The sheer heritage of this place just oozes. Breakfast served at the White Hart was very good.

United KingdomThere was nothing we didn't like
We chose Dartington Hall as a great location for exploring Dartmoor and Devon coast and fell in love with the peace and tranquility of the place. The grounds are stunning. The on-site pub selling good range of drinks, well kept real ale and delicious meals and on-site quirky cinema kept us entertained in the evenings.

United KingdomI did not book a room with attached bath, and that's OK. I felt it strange that there was no bath soap and had to bring from my room.
Excellent single room, lovely breakfast, and what a marvellous garden in full spring bloom when visited.

United KingdomDetailed arrival instructions arrived by email too late .....after we had already checked in. Signage around the site seemed poor. we had to stop to ask someone walking around the estate for the way to go.
Excellent meals there, especially breakfast, which included a wide range of locally sourced produce. A particular favourite of mine was the apple juice. This was so different from the standard commercially produced version.

United KingdomIt was difficult to book a table for 10 for dinner. Several emails required to different bits of admin. Having made a reservation, it was cancelled with a days notice although the works had apparently been scheduled for some time. Initially staff claimed to have alerted us in advance , but later admitted no messages had been sent. Breakfast was mediocre. Unappetising looking hot food, no pastries and very little fruit.

United KingdomExtremely difficult to find Hotel Reception - no signs even when one found it ('accomodation' sign in Info Centre). It would be helpful, timely and much more welcoming if this info were provided in advance, even communicated through signs on this vast estate.
Very comfortable accommodation, lovely setting. Good breakfast (although limited choice if not early)

United KingdomBreakfast in the White Hart - first day I felt a bit of an idiot waiting for a member of staff to appear to tell me what the procedure was. I would have liked a few light items on the evening menu as I can’t eat a lot in the evenings My bedroom was nice but needs up dating. New carpet, decorating, and a few bits of plastering In the condition it is I would have begrudged paying that price as I was upgraded from a single room which had a leak
I know Dartington Hall well so not too many surprises. It was great to have the Barn Theatre with films I liked The Green Cafe. I was lucky to be there when WonderGlow was on Gardens are lovely to walk around Easy parking

United KingdomThe breakfast curfew is quite ridiculous. We like to enjoy a run and swim in the river before breaky but felt we couldn’t enjoy the morning because the cut off was 930am. Spoke to catering staff whether or not we could arrive at 9.30am they responded “you could but they’d be no food left”. I think those who work in hospitality sometimes forget we are actually paying customers on holiday which is worth remembering hence why many folk are opting for ABNB where one has more freedom.

United KingdomOne room too hot and unable to turn down heating, but moved next day. Rooms need a spring clean, but bedding and shower room clean.
In a great historic setting amidst an old estate. Good, plentiful breakfast included in pub within square. On site, volunteer run cinema (best to pre-book if busy time). Good price for single ensuite room. Lovely historic gardens on site, and walks when weather better. Free parking for those staying.

United StatesThe Trust is going through a period of transition and is focused on how it will survive financially, and I felt the impact as a visitor. I did not like the Alice in Wonderland light show which was installed for a long duration and which I thought detracted from the experience of the exquisite gardens during the day, with strings of colored lights, barricades and plastic sculptures throughout the garden landscape. The project took access away from visitors after 3pm on days when the show was live. I felt the project of Dartington's future might benefit from input from those who appreciate the mission of the Trust and the potential for this institution to contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future. I would have welcomed a way to converse on that and contribute. Also, more information about the logistics of staying and enjoying the estate would have been helpful. There is potential here for so much more, but I had a good visit.
My room was modest and efficient and looked out onto a courtyard setting recalling the original construction during medieval times. It was easily accessible, and after a functional problem with the bathroom assigned to my first room, I was offered a different room where I paid an additional amount to solve the problem. I booked for an extended stay, so had time to explore this fascinating estate. It's history and mission was an important feature for me, along with the amazing gardens, and a pub and two cafes on site. Devon countryside is beautiful and it was great to take walks along the River Dart and to surrounding towns like Totnes, even in spite of the frequent rainy weather. To truly take in all Dartington has to offer, including lectures, workshops and the Barn Cinema, an extended stay is worth considering.
