Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe bed had two pillows and a thin bedspread. I was quite warm during the night, but I did think that had the weather been colder I might have welcomed the spare blanket that wasn’t in the wardrobe. On the bed were two nice towels, two small squeezy bottles - shampoo and shower gel - and a small pack of Lux soap. The shower room was sparse, and as I remarked, cramped, with nowhere to put toothpaste or brush or to hang towels. The shower worked well with nice hot water, but again, nowhere to keep the soap. Some small improvements for the new management, perhaps? One word of warning; the entrance is up a steep garden path with numerous steps, so if you have mobility problems it would be wise to check whether an alternative entrance exists. Another point is that accessibility by public transport is questionable; any bus journey would seem to end with a lengthy walk. I took a taxi for a fare of about £11 from the city centre. Altogether, if one wants a cheap and cheerful bed for the night and not much else, at a price to match, this hotel offers a clean dry warm room with the opportunity of a hot shower, a cup of tea on arrival, a cup of coffee in the morning and a free TV programme while in bed, and fits the bill nicely. I didn’t explore the rest of the building, but the fire escape plan showed a lounge and I think at least one other public room on the ground floor.
High Bank Hotel is set in a pleasant, leafy suburb in north Leeds. It advertises itself as a 2 star establishment, so don’t expect 4 star facilities! The website also says it’s under new management, so it’s reasonable to expect improvements in the longer term. I had booked a single room; first impressions past the front door (which wasn’t well marked – or marked at all – I was hesitant at pushing it open!) were 1 star; the carpets were thick with dirt. However, the reception room looked efficient and the receptionist was a very pleasant and helpful young lady, who led me upstairs to my room, but when she saw that I had difficulty with climbing stairs, she quickly changed the plan (much appreciated!) and I finished up with a ground floor room. Quite large, with a three panelled bay widow with vertical slatted blinds. The string to adjust the middle one was unfortunately broken, so the room was darker then it might have been and the pleasant view of the garden and trees rather spoilt . There was a radiator, with the heating on, under the window. A small loo, washbasin and shower had been inserted into the room by building a stud wall; an extra foot or two would have improved the shower room and not made much difference to the main room, but too late to change that without major work! The main room had a bed, a small bedside table on one side and a small bedside cupboard on the other, a wardrobe, empty apart from a selection of coat hangers, and a chair alongside a narrow shelf with a tray of tea, coffee and sugar bags, long-life milk and a couple of biscuits, a large cup and saucer and a teaspoon. There was a television zapper, so I looked around for the TV and eventually realised it was flush on the wall above the shelf! The room did have a mirror, but it was standing loose on the floor by the bedside cupboard. I suppose it could have been lifted on to the shelf if it were needed, although I made do with the one in the shower room.

PortugalThe property needs a little money spending to replace carpets etc. A dining room would be good and was promised 2 years ago when we last stayed. It would be nice to have our waste bin emptied occasionally. The steps up to the property are very wearing but it's High Bank hotel and the views from our front bedroom were great.
The location suited us very well for visiting our son in Chapel Allerton and the park opposite is very pleasant. The staff were unfailingly smiling and helpful.
