Cannot find fault!

What didn't we like? We only could stat one night!

The Bear's Paw is a beautifully presented eatery and a fabulous place to stay. We stayed to break up our journey home from the Lake District and didn't disappoint. Food was excellent, both at lunchtime and dinner with a tempting menu and quality ingredients. Our room, although on the top floor was spacious, clean and the bathroom luxuriously appointed with quality fittings. This will now be our default stop over when travelling North to South.

Beautiful location, lovely room, just what I needed after a long day travelling with work. Wifi from my room was challenging at times but that was understandable given the location and I was not unduly fussed.

Our only gripe is that they are still using individual tubes of shower gel etc instead of the dispensers that most hotels have these days. Granted they are more aesthetically pleasing but SO MUCH PLASTIC .

The hotel is set in beautiful and peaceful countryside and there are several public footpaths around if you enjoy walking. It is also dog friendly. The room was very comfortable with a large bathroom. The food in the restaurant was very good with a large choice and staff were friendly and helpful.

Very dog friendly. Welcome pack for the pooch was a lovely touch. Room was very spacious and comfortable. Food and service was excellent. Breakfast was lovely and lots of choice. Will definitely be back,hopefully with more family with dogs!

We originally booked 9 months in advance to stay twice, once on our way north, and once on our way south 5 days later. A week before our trip we went on the property website to look at the dinner menu and were shocked to find the hotel closed for “essential maintenance” the day we were leaving for 10 days, therefore leaving us without somewhere to stay on the journey south. No one had informed us either from Booking.com or the property. We called the property and were told they were indeed closed, and the manager would call us back. This never happened. The food was ok, but only ok. I had a chicken burger, and the chicken was tough. My family also didn’t enjoy their oily tagliatelle, and the fish and thai green curry were “ok”. We all had desserts that were definitely not worth the £7.95 price tags.

The hotel was small clean and well maintained. It was quiet, and we were able to take our dog with us. We included dinner within our booking, so we didn’t have to go and find somewhere else. We chose this property as it was a short drive from the M6.

Room was really spacious, comfortable furniture, well equipped, nice bathroom. We booked dinner, which was really excellent, and breakfat the next morning was very nice, too. We arranged a late checkout, and sat in the garden enjoying a coffee mid-morning.

I feel the breakfast requires improvement. Full English Breakfast for example, only one sausage, half a slice of black pudding etc. Its a bit bizarre sitting with it knowing someone on another table has the other half of your black pudding. Average quality. One elderly member of staff that I only ever seen at breakfast time - never smiled, didn’t seem enthusiastic and gave off the vibe that she didn’t want to be there or enjoyed serving people. Made as much noise as she could when clearing tables too. Definitely wouldn’t prevent me coming back however, the rest of the experience was fantastic.

The hygiene and cleanliness of this hotel is fantastic. Every day I witnessed the communal areas being washed/mopped/hoovered. The staff were very helpful, polite and respectful to us and especially our dog. Beautiful inside and out, as well as the location. Nice sized rooms, good showers and room accessories.

Room 17 was beautiful & spacious. The bed & bedding very comfortable. The bathroom was modern & clean. The eating areas of the pub had the feel of a gentlemen’s club, with unusual art works on the walls.

Wobbly tap in bathroom, Rather boisterous funeral party dominated the whole place when we arrived.
