The bathroom light kept going out when I was in the shower - could do with a bit longer on the sensor if possible (room 2)

Perfect location and really comfortable, clean rooms.

Didn’t dislike anything but having a shower would have been preferred rather than a bath and mixer tap.

    Location, history and comfort.

Very enjoyable one night stay in a historic inn.

Could do with hooks on the back of the door for wet coats. Internet wasn’t very good in the room (room 1). Had to hotspot off my phone. No parking at the venue. The automatic light in the bathroom wasn’t great as it was very disturbing if you need to use the loo in the night.

Lovely setting, historic building, helpful staff, great breakfast. Clean comfortable room.

Being allocated to another room next morning knowing that there was building works going on in the building next door.

Food was excellent. We changed rooms due to building work and noise at 7.30am. Our change to a different room was excellent. Breakfast was limited but very good but extras would have been better.

We've just left The Cavendish after a one night stay and couldn't wait to write a review. Wow - what a place. I've been to The Cavendish before for food and drinks and it has always been a favourite of mine in Cartmel however I had never stayed over before. I booked the room and told my partner how amazing the place is for food and drinks - she was expecting big things and The Cavendish did not fail to deliver. We stayed in room 7 which we felt lucky to have been allocated with its view over the back garden and with the priory in sight. The room was lovely, spacious, warm and had great tea and coffee facilities. The bed was very comfortable and there was absolutely no noise from the pub downstairs. A classic Inn-style room. Onto the food. I had had food at The Cavendish before and my last visit I had the steak and ale pie which I was delighted to see had been kept on the menu. To start we had the mackerel croquettes and crab croutes which were both lovely. Great portion sizes and very tasty. I had to have the steak and ale pie again and it was just as nice as the last time I had it. OUTSTANDING. One of the nicest restaurant pie's I've ever had - cannot recommend it enough. The side of chips and sweet red cabbage are perfect accompaniments. My partner had the chicken and gnocchi dish which she was stunned by. I think the chicken has genuinely had a profound impact on her as she's still talking about it 24hrs later and I suspect she will be doing so until we return to The Cavendish. Tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned chicken. Unbelievable dish. The asparagus and peas were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset. Both were amazing and the lemon posset was a perfect palette cleanser after our mains. The staff are lovely, attentive and can't do enough for you. Breakfast is included with your stay. Again, brilliant food.

Not a criticism but an observation- breakfast menu was limited The room was a bit small but it was very clean

Pretty much everything. Staff were great -particularly Olivier! Very welcoming and easily the best place in Cartmel. We tried them all and the welcome of that lovely fire and great staff was smashing 👍

Very cozy building and location. The staff was very friendly and helpful and allowed us to have a late checkout free of charge. The backyard had a great area to sit and drink tea by the calm river. All in all a great stay with great food in the pub and we will definitely try to come back.

Personally we didn’t mind this but it’s a very old building and the rooms are country pub rather then modern chic, not always everyone’s style. The automatic light in the bathroom turns off mid shower!

Great location to explore area, friendly pub with good food and great staff, like the proper tea and coffee in the room.

Not a fan of showers over a bath snd not a particularly impressive shower at that - that's the only negative I can think of though

Lovely old rustic building, very characterful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Comfy beds. Good food and a quite magnificent "full English" for breakfast.

Struggling to think of anything that didn’t meet or exceed our expectations. That is why we have returned here several times. Consistently high level of service, standards and comfort. We will certainly return again.

The whole experience was great. Very nice room, helpful and professional staff, an owner who is genuinely interested in your well being and enjoyment and a good bar and food. As dog owners, it is always great to stay in a genuinely dog friendly venue like this, not somewhere where it is essentially an afterthought or to tick a box. Location superb.

The shower, but they are aware of that and it’s an issue affecting the whole village so not sure this counts as a bad, just a situation out of their control
