Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. United Kingdomfrom the outside there was no sign or way of knowing this was a guest house, the rooms are unlocked with a code, but as there are no staff on site i got lucky and another guest found me sitting on the wall outside and explained the situation to me. an email could cover all of this prior to check in
the rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. the house is also quiet. the kitchen has all the appliances you'd need except for a washing machine

United KingdomOn the phone the host explained to me that there would be parking across the street, when I get there in person it says only permit holders can park, I asked the host what if I get a parking ticket and he just shrugged his shoulders and said nobody has issues parking there, meaning they expect us to take the risk of getting a parking ticket after verbally telling me there is parking on the street available. I offered to pay them up to £70 and cancel my stay to which he said he will get back to me, then he said he can't offer me any refund. After further messaging he literally didn't respond at all and just ignored my messages. The place was of such low quality, and the entire house was STINKING of weed, not kept to a good standard at all. I decided to book a different hotel that same day. As I'm typing this, he still hasn't responded to me and I'm processing a refund via booking.com right now. Don't be fooled by the pictures on this site because the place doesn't look even 5% as good in real life, its genuinely horrible. The fact that they don't feel obliged to tell their customers that parking comes with a risk of getting a ticket, and also the fact that they feel comfortable taking £200 from a customer who didn't stay one night at their hotel because of very valid reasons tells you how much they care about customer service. They just wanna do the bare minimum to take your money and run. Update: After raising a dispute on booking.com, the hosts of this accommodation had the audacity to lie to booking.com and say that I didn't even show up to check in, despite me literally having text messages to prove us talking on the day of my check in.
Didn't like anything and didn't even stay a single night because it was so bad.

United KingdomWe booked own bathroom and when arrived was told there was no rooms with own bathroom. We had to wait 25 mins for someone to let us in, then there was only a key to front door on outside. When locked you couldn’t get out the building. Had to wait for them to come back and let us out and one night when got back we had to wake up the other people staying to let us in as a key was left in the door on the inside. No bins in bedroom or bathroom. Advertised parking when booked and there was none, it’s permits only and they have no permits. Was informed they only just acquired the property so they def have a few things to sort out, especially being locked in the property, that is a serious fire risk
