How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

There was nothing I didn't like. Not one thing
My room was perfect, had everything I needed and was spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed. The building itself has a lot of character and the exceptionally quiet residential street its on really belies how close the location really is to the city centre. B+B York is the place I prefer to stay when I visit York now. I have tried many others in York in years past or when B+B has no availability. None in this price range, and some more expensive, that I have experience of come close.

The breakfast was very good and we also appreciated the staff's service at the table like in a restaurant. The room was comfortable and very clean, like the rest of the hotel, too. The location was in a nice and quite area and located in a convenient distance to the city. The staff was very friendly and service-minded. We enjoyed our stay very much.

The property is a lovely big house. The staff were very welcoming. The room was fine for a 2 night stay, but the shower room, was quite small. Tea and coffee was provided. Breakfast was plentiful and lots of choice. It was a 15 minute walk to the city walls. If we go back , it will be on our accommodation list. Thank you

5th time staying here for work and will continue to come back. The facilities are good, comfy room and excellent breakfast, close to the centre of town which is a bonus. The staff make the biggest difference here, on every visit they have been happy, helpful and a credit to the business.

Definitely stay again if in York but maybe not in room 4 at the bottom of an indoor ramp by carpark. Heavy tread up and down.
Breakfast was super...served by lovely staff...pleasant courteous and helpful. Quick and efficient. Nothing too much trouble. Hot food served on hot plates just how I like it. Delicious

Everything was good about the breakfast except they used frozen sausages which let it down. The shower was very underpowered and took ages to warm up.
The room was clean and large with a comfortable bed. The location was good. We were able to park the car and leave it.

Bathroom space a bit tight but overall good value for money.
Great location, and safe parking area , very clean and tidy. Friendly staff. Vicky gave us a call to remind us of the check in time which was very helpful. She was friendly and approachable and nothing was a problem for her although she was busy doing chores all the time. She is an asset to B&B York.

This is really a complaint about York hotels in general. B+B was the cheapest I could find on booking.com, but by my reckoning still a bit pricey.
The staff were all pleasant and helpful. The room was spacious and simply but effectively furnished, with an excellent bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with a wide choice and plenty of staff to look after you.

Downside to being so close to town, parking on first come, first served basis. Although mentioned on wall, need to mention in advert (and I apologise if they have and I missed it) that they do not automatically provide toiletries. Traveller has to ask. (They say trying to reduce plastic). Although 1 large towel each, only 1 small towel between 2 people. Room could have had a larger bed. Mini fridge would have been nice, with 2 bottles water. Had lots of leaflets for nearby places of interest but could of included Hop On, Hop Off buses.
Location good. Only 10 minutes from town centre. Staff could not done more for us! Boyfriend had bad back and they went over and beyond to help! Choice of breakfast was cereal, yoghurt, cooked food and toast. Cooked food was lovely. All clean and tidy. Lovely large bathroom, with decent sized shower.
