How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The breakfast was great, there was a lot of choice available, we had the full English breakfast and it was brilliant, couldn't fault it. Great location for visiting the town centre too.

Was all good...
Very clean room with nice en suite. Happy with my stay, nice and quiet. Good breakfast also. Staff were very pleasant, helpful and friendly.

Biggest issue for me was despite being listed as near the main train station, it's actually a 40-minute walk. Not what you need before an important meeting. Breakfast was average, and water was cold.
Clean, comfortable room. Friendly staff.

Damaged fittings in the bathroom and bedroom, curtains that didn't fit the windows, damaged walls around the window

Room was a nice size and was warm but not too warm. Breakfast was very good a full English which was just right. Staff are always courteous.

We travelled through the night and arrived too early for check in. We asked if it would be possible for them to provide breakfast for us. They were happy to oblige. We were allowed to leave our car in the car park while we had a look round Reading but returned too early for check in. Happily we were allowed to check in early and get some rest.

Email notification to say staying in hotel next door would have been nice. Especially because I missed the entrance and used the hotel next doors car park to turn around

I wish my room had a kettle. I arrived late after work and breakfast wasn't till 8 so I need tea and coffee inbetween.
The location and the staff were really nice and helpful. Breakfast was nice and the staff knew who I was.

Thought it was over priced! Bathroom window was broken and couldn’t close it so draft coming through! Loads of cobwebs in bathroom! Toilet roll holder broken! Tv remote not working! Mattress was very lumpy! Stayed in 4 star rooms for less money!!
The location was good as picking up daughter from reading festival!

Nothing, for the price we paid we couldn’t have asked for anything more.
We didn’t actually stay at The Lawn Hotel, for whatever reason, it was closed and we were directed to the hotel next door which was great for a night. The staff were very friendly and helpful, room was clean, we were provided a cot at no extra cost, even with a lot of guests it was really quiet at night and breakfast was an added bonus for the price we paid. We were visiting friends a few miles away so only needed a base to get our heads down for a night and for the price we paid we got a bargain. We will definitely stay again when we visit next time.

Nothing to dislike. If you're looking for 5*, find another hotel and pay 5 times the price.
We actually stayed at the Parkside Hotel which is the newer building on the same site, and not the Lawn Hotel. Room was a good size, clean and tidy. All furniture was in good condition, breakfast very good and even bar prices were very reasonable. Staff, very polite and courteous. Ample on site parking. All in all a very good value for money hotel. Would definitely stay again.

On approaching the Lawn hotel we where surprised at the condition of the place from the outside, approaching the front door there was a sign indicating we go next door to the Parkside Hotel which thankfully was where we stayed a relief.
The Parkside hotel was OK and our stay was pleasant enough.
