How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Everything! It was immaculately clean, fresh laundered soft towels, milk and essentials on arrival. The house was perfect for our needs and well equipped. The location is fantastic for walking into york city centre and the local highstreet had lovey places to eat and drink too with a Sainsburys local at the end of the road. The communication from the owners was superb, with recommendations of local favourite places to visit. I would highly recommend. We were an all female party of two generations.

Location was perfect for local shops, fish and chips and excellent breakfast at the Pig and Pastry cafe at the end of the road. A short walk and you are at the castle museum end of York and then into the centre of York. Or you can start by walking the walls along the east side up to the north of York.

To say didn't like would be a bit harsh. Bathroom floor tiles could do with being repaired. Shower cubicle silicone could do with renewed. But that's all

On street parking was very tight. It's managed by one permit per house.
Plenty of space. Great location close to town. Responsive staff. Clean.

Nothing to complain about. Loved it all.
Gorgeous townhouse within walking distance to the centre of York, with a lovely street of shops on the way. Spacious for a family with a full large dining table in the dining room, a full sized kitchen with full facilities, and a separate laundry room with a washer and a dryer. The upstairs was spacious too and well fitted out. The bathroom was quite new and lovely to shower in. The street itself was quiet and the neighbours that we passed on the street were friendly and quite nice. Street parking was easy and possible. It was also so nice of the hosts to highlight that the staircase between the two floors is quite steep and unsuitable for those with mobility issues. We're all quite able, so had no issues with them, but they are tight spiral stairs (and we didn't even try taking our luggage up the stairs, opting instead, to leave them in the lounge room). The heating within the home was brilliant and it really felt like a home.

Everything was great
Excellent location, there are convenient shops, bakers, grocers, café, wine bar just around the corner, it is only a short walk to the city centre and attractions, very quiet and pleasant location, spacious accommodation with great facilities such as washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge/ freezer, dining table, large bath, shower, hair dryer, ironing board, board games, television with netflix and WiFi. Much more comfortable than a hotel. The hosts are very attentive, friendly and helpful, with great communication.

Good location, we were able to walk to the city centre for dinner, 10-15 mins walk. Parking right outside. Clean, spacious, had everything we needed.

All was great, no issues
Accomdation was spot on. Everything that you could need.What we liked was the walk into the centre. Did not need the car the whole stay. Walk was about 15 mins to the shambles.

If I had to say something we didn't like it was that there are only one parking space and one toilet. We were a family of six adults so it could be inconvenient. It didn't impact our stay but it was something we noticed. There is no other parking areas near by for free. The closest and cheapest is the ncp by the train station and it you have the app it's £12 for 24 hours so if you need a long stay car pack we would recommend that car park. Or if you only need to park the car overnight by the house the one at the end of the road is free 6pm till 8 am. Otherwise no complaints. We had a lovely stay.
We enjoyed it's central location and how convenient the local shops were. It was very clean and spacious and we didn't feel cramped. It was nice to be able to cook in the house so we didn't need to eat out all the time. The kitchen was fully supplied so it made it all very easy. The hosts were very knowledgeable and gave us lots of information of the area. They also kept in touch to make sure we had everything we needed and we're comfortable.
