It would have helped to have a small shelf in the shower to put shampoo etc on rather than on the floor.

The room overlooked the street and was a little noisy, particularly as the weather was unusually hot, so we had the window open all the time.

Historic building in the heart of Wells with views over the Cathedral Close and the Cathedral itself. Well equipped and comfortable room up some quite narrow stairs.

That getting to our room involved climbing some steep circular stone steps and the bathroom was not en suite but down a couple of those stone steps. Difficult to negotiate especially at night. We hadn’t been told about this. No assistance with our luggage. Rude staff, didn’t ask if they could help in any way and greeted abruptly and on leaving, wasn’t asked if we enjoyed our stay. Although we were given parking instructions, they were inaccurate and difficult to follow.

Nothing really. Thanks to the hotel for being clear that some of the rooms are up some very steep stairs which could be problematic of people with reduced mobility, so people can request a room on the first floor. But I intend to come back and ask for a top floor room while I can still clime the stairs.

I loved this ancient and building. Atmospheric and peaceful with a beautiful view of the Cathedral. The Vegetarian breakfast was delicious ( thanks Evelyn) A little sanctuary very close to the centre of Britain's smallest city.

There was some traffic noise, but just ask for a cathedral view room.

The hotel was in a fantastic location, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast hot and delicious. We also had a lovely meal in the restaurant

Guests came down in the morning (some for breakfast) and there were no staff! Went to a nearby hotel for breakfast and were speedily refunded for that on return.

I am always disappointed when the option of a light breakfast is not available. I never eat cooked breakfast, so am not prepared to pay for one.

The view from the bedroom was stunning and the room itself was comfortable. The bathroom was a good size, although the shower proved small. I appreciated the good ventilation on what turned out to be a warm weekend.

There were a few small details... No lamp on one side of the bed, no shelf in the shower... Small details but this wasn't cheap for a room only so it would have been nice to have those in place. Our main issue was the wooden canopy over the bed which had protruding knobs that we kept banging our heads on.

Great location, lovely old building and the prior information about parking options was helpful. Comfy bed and good hot shower.

The bed was terribly uncomfortable. The mattress was uneven and lumpy. It was like sleeping on an old oversized sofa.

Maybe a breakfast menu to chose a small breakfast e.g. just egg on toast? The bedroom was a tight squeeze, couldn't access the wardrobe fully. TV had to be turned off at the socket and couldn't reach the socket for one of the lamps behind the bed head. Would have liked some information on the history of the building.

Being a rather “ancient” hotel, it has the challenges of narrow winding stairs, no lift, creaky floors and lack of internet.

Set on the beautiful Cathedral Green, it was the perfect base for exploring Wells. Right in the village and attractions accessible by foot which is great.
