I can wholeheartedly recommend Alpha House for anyone looking for a friendly, quiet stay in beautiful surroundings. Plaka is only a short drive away from the beach, and you can easily discover the west of the island from there. Joan is a wonderful host who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The breakfast is excellent, complete with her homemade bread, jam and local delicacies. We can't wait to return.

The host lives at the property. She is gentle and helpful. The entrance and kitchen are shared. We had a private room and bathroom. Nice and clean. We liked the breakfast and the view from the loft.

You can get a wake up call from the cicadas and the goats nearby.

The location was quite remote, which we really enjoyed. Joan - the host - was incredible, always happy to help us. The breakfast was diverse and healthy, with fruit and vegetables from Joan’s garden.

The room was exactly what we needed, clean, tidy, airy, direct access to the balcony where a tasty breakfast was served. Joan and Jhon are so hospitable and nice, very happy to have stayed by them. Fully recommended!!!!

Everything was just perfect!

If you need the typical hotel feeling and a pool, you better book somewhere else. But if you are looking for an accommodation with "soul" and atmosphere, Joan and John are the best choice. We had an inspiring and relaxing stay and already wish to return. Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable, the breakfast with homemade bread very tasty. But much more worth mentioning is the heartwarming hospitality, the great conversations with Joan and the wonderful surroundings. If you can't find relaxation on the roof top while stargazing, you won't find it anywhere. Thank you for the wonderful time!

Leaving

An unforgettable stay. A huge thanks to Joan and it John for thier incredible hospitality. Location 10/10 😄 Remote, but not. Close enough local towns, restaurants, local shops, beach etc. Plaka is just down the road 5-10min walk or a couple mins by car. Almidira is an extra 5min. AH is surrounded by wonderful plant life, smells, views, it really is a great location. Things to do 10/10 😄 There's plenty. Joan will give you some ideas. You can also look on Google. My highlights which were within reasonable distance were Aptera, Imbros Gorge, Almidira and I popped into Plaka almost daily for lunch at Harokopos (just down the road). If you're feeling a chilled day or evening at the apartment, then rooftop offers amazing views. Breakfast 10/10 😄 All fresh, and a great way to start your day(s). Joan makes her own bread which is delicious, it all is. Apartment 10/10 😀 Perfect size for couples, small family or solo. I was solo and the place was perfect. Hot shower, comfy bed, AC, plenty of storage, kettle, area to hang clothes, well decorated, very peaceful and private. If you hire a car, which I recommend, then you can park just outside your apartment. No issues with safety. Hosts 11/10 🤗 Wonderful and genuine. Alpha House is a wonderful place to stay in Chania. There are however only 2 apartments available, both just as nice as each other, just don't spend too long over thinking it. If you're dates are available, just book, however ** Important ** if you're dates are showing as 'not available', please contact Joan, as the site sometimes shows dates not available when they actually are! Enjoy your Crete! PS: Definitely hire a car. Nothing fancy needed!

The road in the last 200m to the house is a bit bumpy and dark at night. The room downstairs has small high windows, not a lot of light inside. Pillows to be improved.

Joan is a great host! She provided an excellent breakfast and a very nice chat and overview on life in Crete. Great view from the terrace upstairs.

What to dislike? Really can't find anything.

For me this was a little pearl right in the nature. It gave some exercise, but was good for me. The sheeps was so close to the Alpha House and I just loved it, loved the view from rooftop and the panoramic view, the mountain view, the lady of the house Joan (thank you for company for breakfast and for all your kindness) she was just amazing and John the sweetest man. From Plaka there are the most beautiful view over the village of Almirida. I just loved those nice, little villages.

Loud cicadas:-)

Thanks to Joan and John, stay here was very pleasant for us. Smaller room but we found everything we needed. Shared kitchen, terrace, rooftop terrace, nice garden - everything at your disposal. Joan always served us tasty breakfast and we had a nice chat with her. We felt very welcome. Thanks!
