Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWi-fi was only available in certain parts of the house. But since we were on holiday it wasn't a big deal...if needed, just moved to a room with a signal.
The location was peaceful and absolutely beautiful. The sitting room faced the Shannon River and garden (my favorite room) and was a wonderful place to relax and regroup any time during the day or evening. The property had a long family history which we enjoyed hearing about. It was everything I hoped it would be. At the end of our stay we had made new friends.

IndiaQuaint setting in Limerick - not far from the city yet you don't hear the hustle and bustle. Beautiful property with the brook right in front of the bungalow. Well stocked kitchen and friendly staff. The bungalow itself is historical and holds a charm of its own.

FranceThis was, without question, our favourite stay of the whole trip. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed into something very special. Marc, his son Harry, and the rest of their family are restoring a magnificent old house set in a beautiful riverside landscape, with ancient trees, a small chapel on the grounds, and views of the river from the bedroom windows. The house itself is somewhere between timeworn and lovingly renewed — full of character, a place that breathes history but feels alive. Their dog Noah, a charming and friendly dalmatian, held court from the living room chair and added even more soul to the place. It was the only spot on our journey where our baby could sleep peacefully in the room while we were able to relax elsewhere in the house. For any parents travelling with a toddler, that’s priceless. But most of all, we’ll remember the people: a wonderful evening spent chatting with Marc and another guest, Brian, who shared captivating stories of his past at sea — a moment of genuine connection, like visiting friends rather than staying in a guesthouse. This is not a polished hotel — it’s a living project, full of soul, and it deserves to be supported. We truly hope more travellers will find their way here and help this beautiful vision thrive.

Slovakiafurther surrounding areas where under construction, need a lot of work to finish. but the main closer areas were like from a fairy tale. Some people who suffer on pets allergy may suffer (two dogs were present from the owner who btw lives there too).
just amazing house full of history and a grand genius loci of this location. you'll never find such a place where history is breathing at you. I loved the old church like from the horror stories. eventhoug the house is totally outdated it keeps its charm of the ages ago. Expecially the toilet was great. Breakfast option (cereals, fresh bread, coffee, tea - great for sitting the blooming garden or dining room, walk around the private lake with swans.

United StatesI have got nothing. It is an older building with a few quirks the family call a “work in progress” but I think when you get to stay in an old house like this you should expect some of that.
This was the most beautiful spot! So peaceful and relaxing! Mark and his family took such great care of us. When we got in before check in time Harry (Mark’s son) picked our bags up from the bus station we came in from so we did not have to hire a taxi to drop off the bags. The list of recommended things was long and all very helpful. Very special place to get to stay! Mark also drove us into town when we asked. So nice to not have to worry about how to get to the station! We were able to go grocery shopping and use the kitchen for dinners. We also loved the family dogs. They had a lot of personality! The family just really made us feel welcome and happy.

AustraliaNothing.
Charming historical home set in a beautiful location beside the Shannon River. Our hosts, Mark and Fiona, made us feel at home. They provided helpful information about the sights and restaurants around Limerick and Clare. It's definitely a place we would recommend if you're thinking of staying in Limerick, and we would love to stay there again. Also, a big pat for Charlie and Noah (the dogs) for an entertaining stay.

FranceStaying in this beautifully preserved historic house was a real highlight of our trip. The house is full of character and history, with elegant details throughout and a garden that’s clearly been lovingly cared for : peaceful, green, and perfect for a quiet walk along the river. Our host was warm and welcoming, striking just the right balance of hospitality and space. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely at ease, as if we were guests in a friend’s grand family home. This is not your typical accommodation, it’s something special. If you're looking for a stay that offers charm, comfort, and a real sense of place, this is well worth it.

United StatesWe loved everything about our stay. It was the perfect historical setting. The grounds were so beautiful to walk, watch the swans, or sit at the big window (if raining) and enjoy the gardens. It’s still close enough to town to see the sites or take a tour then return to a relaxing home. Sharing a house and meeting other travelers was a bonus. Most of all, we enjoyed our evening with the host (Mark) and his son (Harry) sharing stories. We highly recommend staying at the Shannon River House.

Beautiful grounds with clean, comfortable and beautiful home. Felt safe and secure. Mark was a fantastic host who went above and beyond for the guests, while still giving us plenty of space and freedom to explore and use the lovely building and gardens. Cleaning was done regularly and well. It was summery weather the whole time, which helped! But even if not - wouldn’t change a thing!

GeorgiaThe property itself is unique — an authentic historical house with a beautiful garden and lovely views of the river. Having breakfast in the garden was so pleasant and satisfying. We really enjoyed how peaceful and quiet the place was. It was the perfect environment to relax and truly get some rest. The property is a bit far from Limerick city center, but the host was incredibly helpful, giving us rides to town and to the supermarket. He was very friendly and a pleasure to chat with. We even had dinner together and truly enjoyed his company. He showed us real hospitality — warm, generous, and genuine, which made our stay even more memorable. The facilities were good. The bathroom was very clean and comfortable, particularly compared to other places we stayed at in Ireland. The bed mattress was super comfortable too. There was a fully equipped kitchen available for guests to use. Although breakfast wasn't included, the host generously allowed us access to the food in the kitchen, which included everything from bread, butter, and jams to pasta and other ingredients for cooking. This made it very convenient to prepare our own meals and added to the feeling of being welcomed and at home. It was a great value for money, and I would definitely stay there again if I return to Ireland.

This is not just a house on the Shannon, This is a wonderful HOME and fantastic family. From the very second you arrive after coming up the tree lined drive, you are welcomed as part of the family. The house and grounds are steeped in history. Nearly every window you look out has a tranquil view of the lawns and trees and of course the River Shannon. Many thanks to Mark and Harry for a genuine family welcome and stay. Every part of this week was simply brilliant.
