A fabulous hostel (with one private Japaese-style bedroom ). Brand new, spotlessly clean, comfortable, with shared bathrooms, a large bar/lounge and outdoor space. Perfect English is spoken by a very engaging and helpful host.

    Everything was great!

One of the best dormitory we had in the past 6 months backpacking through Asia. The beds were big and comfortable, so we slept like babies! The place was in the countryside and we passed through rice fields to get there which was a very local vibe that we liked. The owner was great company and we chatted together for some time. We wish we could have stayed longer and want to come back soon again!

Awesome location (directly on the Henro trail), very nice and cozy shared space and super friendly owner with great English skills (so no worries if you don't speak Japanese). The dormitory room and beds are very spacious and overall it was very clean. Nice garden and deck to hang out as well, highly recommend!

Rooms very pleasant, modern, with lots of wood. Very cosy common room, for chatting with other guests and with the host. Seiji-san there also offers (local) drinks. He speaks fluent English. Would have liked to stay more than just one day.

Everything met our expectations. It looks remote on the map, but it was easy to reach.

Must be the owner. Very welcoming, friendly and kind. We stayed in a private room in the hostel, and there was not much difference compared to a business hotel room. Shared bathroom wasn't a problem at all, it was still very private and discreet.

Not many things to do in the surrounding area, but if you like the quiet Japanese countryside (like I do), this will be a unique stay.

I would live here if I could. Amazing place, very well-designed guest house run by thoughtful and friendly owners. Definitely will come again!

It’s pretty far if you don’t have car. But for me who was coming without car, it’s worth for!

This place is the best hostel ever I have been in Japan! Owner is very friendly and kindly. We wanted to go Chichibugahama Beach and then he called taxi for us. This place is so cozy and warm house. I’m highly recommended!

Kind and friendly host. Beautiful space. Hostel with bunk beds great for tall people!

Nothing. Was simply grateful and glad to be able to find a place at this location and price range, and bowled over by the facilities. Shippoya's owner will send you a message to let you know about the things to take note of before you arrive, and you can buy food for dinner and breakfast.

If you're on the Shikoku Henro (a pilgrimage to visit 88 temples related to Kukai, Kobo Daishi), Shippoya 七宝屋 is perfectly located between Temple 70 Motoyamaji and Temple 71 Iyadaniji, amidst tranquil farms and paddy fields. The hostel for guests is beautifully and thoughtfully designed by the owner, reminiscent of Scandinavian minimalist aesthetics. Unlike many dormitory hostels where it is difficult for even an Asian person of average height to sit up fully in the lower bunk bed, the dormitory at Shippoya offers a generous and welcoming space even for taller guests! Private rooms are also available. Friendly and knowledgeable, Shippoya's owner is able to speak English well, making it much easier for foreign guests to communicate, have interesting conversations, and learn about Japanese culture. Guests can use the washing machine for free, and there is an outdoor space to hang and dry clothes.

The owner was super friendly and we had a good chat about all sorts of things. He brought me to a breakfast ramen spot nearby which was really generous of him. Also, he had spent four years in Canada and has seen many countries so he is easy to get along with!
