Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThere is a rather steep slope up to the house so if you don't do well with slopes, you might need some help. The parking space is also about a 3 min walk from the house so if you have heavy and bulky luggage, it might be a little challenging.
The photos on booking.com don't do this place justice. The house is super clean and the bathroom looks brand new. Very warm and homely feeling. The staff was so polite and helpful. She even gave us a house tour and was smiling all the time. She even called a nearby restaurant to help us make a booking for dinner. Very good value for money.

United StatesLoved how close it was to the Iwato shrines. I got up at 6am with an easy 6 minute walk to the shrines and then a 6 minute walk to the Amaterasu cave

The person running the hotel was very sweet. The guest house was large and had everything you would need. Had a great traditional feel to it. We loved it. It was perfect for visiting Takachiho gorge the next morning. Great location.

TaiwanThe only thing i will complain is the sound insolation for the hotel. You will hear all the cars that passing by the hostel. Also within the room, I keep worrying about us bothering the neighbor or able to hear the movement outside of the room. However, with the price we paid, I still do believe it is worth the price.
with the price we pay for the room, the room is clean! the shared restroom and shower are clean too. The staffs are super friendly. It is walking distance from Amanoyasukawara, which is super convenience for those who wish to visit the place.

FranceVery kind and smiling receptionist. A spacious room, comfy futon, with a wonderful view on the valley. Everything was very clean and calm. You can visit Amanoiwato Shrine by foot, its entrance is like 200-400 meters from the guest house and you can even see one of the torii doors from the window. It's better to come by car so you can visit Takachiho nearby.

CanadaThere were some weird stains on the couch futon. The bottom rungs of the stairs also smelled pretty bad (we wondered if it was because people used those steps to put on their shoes).
We got upgraded to the loft house, which was a cute little tiny home. It was a small space but it felt comfortable for two people. Even though it was very rainy when we stayed, we always felt warm and secure. The person at check-in was very friendly and instructive.

MalaysiaThe check-in staff was very friendly and even before took the time to answer our questions about visiting the area. We had our own little property with a sleeping and dining tatami room each, kitchen and toilet indoors. Outdoor bath/ shower also available. Perfect for our family of 4 to stay before visiting the gorge.

I had a house with an outside outdoor bath. There is no internal bath in the house, but there is a toilet. Bathing outside in the winter is similar to visiting an outdoor hotspring. There is a kitchen, a dining area, and a sleeping area in the house. Futons are what we sleep on. During the winter, the house is clean and toasty, and it has all of the required facilities. The guest house staff is extremely helpful in showing us around the property, and she responds quickly when I reach her via the booking applications. A gas station and a large supermarkets are 10 minutes' drive from the guest house. This house has outperformed my expectations.

SpainThe room was very small. With the futons laid out there was almost no room to walk. There is a loft that uses a ladder. There is room there for the futon, and is has a low ceiling. We opted not to use that. The photos of the facility show a hot tub but apparently that is only for the unit adjacent to it.
It was a great location, not far from Takachiho Gorge. Staff was great. And the room was very clean. We spent one night there and were grateful to do so. That said, we are glad it was only one night. It is very reasonable cost wise. Were we younger and a bit more agile our review might have been very different. I would recommend this sweet low key place to anyone.
