Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe 2 top bunks bed were very, very high. Otherwise nothing else.
This is a very nice guesthouse, the host was a lovely lady who understood English well and encouraged us to try to speak Japanese. The room was nice with a bathroom with toilets just for us outside our room. There are 2 rooms each has access to a dedicated bathroom. The kitchen and living room is common to all the guests. The equipment in the kitchen is good. With also leaflets and books to borrow. We came for the lights up event in Shirakawa-go and we had a lift to and from the event.

AustraliaLoved the Guesthouse - Anthut when we arrived it was snowing, we had to dig out the snow to park the car. It did take awhile for us to find this little gem as it was snowing so hard the GPS could't work out where we were but we got there in the end. The host was lovely and very welcoming, the place was warm and clean and the beds were comfortable. You do have to organise your own food, there is a supermarket just down the road with lots of delicious Japanese food. Unfortunately we didn't get to see very much as it was still snowing in the morning and the roads were closed but we didn't really care as this was a great little find. My husband gave the host a six pack of beer when we left to thank her husband for getting all the snow off the car in the morning. We would love to visit here again.

United StatesShower is very small, very. Wash face and brush teeth isn't private, it is in a shared room but you get your own sink. Was a bit too pricy for what you're getting but considering there wasn't any better options it was okay and for one night it was still enjoyable.
If you're going to a guesthouse you are getting a guesthouse, and this is a good option guesthouse for this town. The hostess lady is very nice and welcoming.

Clean room, super kind / friendly staff, well take care and pick / drop us at famous restaurant and bus station. They provide warm welcome and always make us feel good. They pick up us at bus station around 5pm, it is good timing since we can walk around the village prior go to hotel and dinner.

SingaporeAs this is an inn, the toilets and showers are outside. The ppty does get quite cold in Dec. I think it’s nice for solo or group travelers. However it’s not as favorable for families if kids are young.
It’s a cosy space and the host is very warm!

MalaysiaThe heater at the living room and kitchen area is not warm enough. The room is warm enough.
This place provides free shuttle to the bus station. Generally they provide as what are being described. The disadvantage of this place is not many restaurants nearby, so far I only know one beef restaurant nearby but the way towards there is a bit dark. Better to walk with friends/family.

United StatesIt was just a little bit too cold inside to be fully comfortable, but the bedding is thick so I was warm when sleeping! Wear your coat around inside and drink hot water and you’ll be good :)
The hosts are the nicest people and the location was perfect! They picked me up from the bus station and took me back when I checked out. They also offered to stop by the store to make sure I got food. The place itself was so cute and the bed was comfortable. I felt very safe and cared for as a solo traveler.

PortugalWhen you charge 90€ for one night does it make sense to charge for a towel? The amount is minimal but this approach reflects some pettiness in dealing with customers. The bed's frame is fairly hard and the bathroom cold. Small details would improve easily improve the quality of the place: hangers, better storage space, thermal isolation of the shower and the toilet.
It is a guesthouse that is closer to an original youth hostel: two bedrooms in dormitory style, where the common area is more comfortable than the bedrooms! The owner is quite sympathetic. Good wifi connection.

AustraliaThe host Motoko definitely made us feel at home. She was very funny and when we were having trouble with the stovetop her son came over and helped out even though it was quite late at night. She also drove our bags to the bus terminal in her truck while her husband drove us in the car after we checked out which was generous of them. The common area felt very homely and there was two showers and two toilets (one for each room) which we liked.

ItalyThe answer ofr the owners by booking was not fast hence it was difficult to agree with them for a lift at the arrival. Compared to other accomodation in Japan the price was too high for this kind of accomodation, i believe like that since few availables in town. we were 5 but the structure was for more people and actually I believe if other guests there the same day it would have been very little space for all. we found very strange that even if there was nobody else at 22 the owners came and while playing cards they told us to go to bed, the same the owners came into the structure by knocking door at 6 in the morning to clean and organize the flat.
The guesthouse is very simple but very clean and has everything. It is one of the few available in Shirakawago and from town is reachable by 20 min walking. The hosts were very kind.

Hong KongWe have allocated room A and the bathroom and toilet is outside our room although it can be used only by us according to the house rules. There were other guests from room B during my first night stay. When they went to their toilet, the sliding door of their room produced unpleasant sound when we were sleeping after 10pm. And their noise in the common area was a big problem which my children could not sleep well. Also there is no key for the room and lockers are provided. I would admit this is my fault although it was quite hard to find a hotel in this region for Saturday.
The host is super nice. It was great when there was no other guests in our neighbor room B for my 2nd night stay.
