Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

What a beautiful house. It was just lovely staying here. It was very clean and a fantastic location. So easy to walk to everything we wanted to. Great restaurants nearby and so easy to get to and from the station.

United StatesI would include recommended restaurants in the area and more instructions for washing machine and kitchen appliances in English. While a kitchen is nice to have, I do think the owners could provide some basics besides soy sauce and coffee filters. A little sugar, salt and pepper, coffee and tea would have been helpful. Although the house was spacious, there is actually very little surface area besides the kitchen table. At least three dressers were clearly marked with Do Not Touch labels. That's fine but visitors need surface areas on which to put out suitcase contents, groceries, and the like.
Very clean and spacious, especially for a couple. The futons were comfortable and the slippers great. The neighborhood was quiet but not far from the station and commercial areas. I did appreciate that the owner responded to our questions with alacrity.

JapanFor us old folks, directions to get to Manabi would have helped. We are no experts with GPS. There are no directional signs posted along the small road, but we asked an old man in the neighborhood who was nice enough to take us to the place. A few minor things that would help: have chopsticks on hand, maybe some condiments like soy sauce, a better dishrack (we couldn't figure out how to use the 'modern' one!).
Location was very good, close to Matsue station and bus stations. The tourist office by the way is just outside of the station, to the right as you exit the station and it is a separate building. The information they provided was excellent. We ate out only once a day so we bought some groceries and other foods from the large AEON mall which is a 10-min walk east of the station

Australia1. The downstairs aircon did not appear to vent air at the temperature the remote said it was - it could have been warmer, and avoided use of the other heaters. 2. We stayed there so we could prepare our own meals, which we did - but there was no rice cooker - a big omission! If no rice cooker, then an additional pot in which to cook rice while preparing other dishes (although this uses more stove cook-top space). A rice cooker is better. 3. The kotatsu needs floor chairs with seat backs to make it useful.
A lovely, tidy, quiet, Japanese house, near the station, close to the centre of Matsue. The futons were comfortable and warm. The house is attractive, and subject to comments below, set up well.

United StatesWe had to park our rental car overnight during our 2-night stay at a local coin-operated parking lot. Although the cost was Y1300-Y1400 a night, which is not expensive compared with parking fees in the USA, a dedicated parking spot next to the kominka would be a welcome plus for those arriving via automobile.
I like "slow travel" and prefer to be unwired and free from the distractions of a mobile phone during my wanderings. This makes my journeys just a bit more challenging in the digital age; however, the host was very understanding and let me and my friend register and "check-in" well in advance, before we left the USA for Japan. A door code was provided beforehand and as we had no issues getting settled into the property when we finally arrived, we had just enough time to make it to our dinner reservations at a nearby local izakaya, Taniya, which we highly recommend for it's inventive and delicious kappo-style menu. Even if you cannot make reservations here, the property is located within walking distance to a number of restaurants, bars and nightlife. Manabi-stay Matsue is a very charmingly and thoughtfully renovated kominka. We both found that the attention to detail and mix of old and modern touches made for a wonderful stay.

Traditional Japanese home. We loved the kotatsu table. It was in a good location for restaurants and near parks and the water. Easily fit our extended family of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids).
