How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

the hostel was great. Clean , comfortable and Chris and his wife lovely. The beds comfortable. The kitchen well set up. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Chris the owner was very friendly. The location is great and everything is within walking distance. A good place to meet people. Each bed has its own charging point and light with privacy curtains.

The hosts were nice and helpful. The entire place was clean, kitchen well stocked and the bed was comfortable. Also the location was perfect - located on a cute shopping street, not too far from both train station and Matsumoto castle.

Great common room. Very comfortable and spacious bed with fan and light. The owners were very kind and helpful. The peanut butter cookies in the kitchen were so delicious!!! The little stream next to the property has a walkway you can sit at for a bit, which is nice!

This guesthouse is a hidden gem. The family running it is just so lovely. All common and private spaces are very well organised, nothing was amiss. It is set in a very nice road, making it central yet cozy. If I was ever to pass by Matsumoto this is my stay!

Great facilities, everything new, modern and spotlessly clean. Huge wooden bunk beds in the dorms which are much more spacious than the usual hostel dorm beds. Perfect location on a main shopping street. Helpful, friendly staff and a nice common room to meet other guests. I've stayed in a lot of hostels and this is was perhaps my favourite ever in terms of comfort.

The Italian girl who was attending the hostel in absence of the owners is not friendly. She was always on her phone talking.
This hostel was very comfortable to stay. Comfortable matresses and nice curtains for privacy. The amenities were great too, a good washing machine and squeaky clean kitchen and bathroom. The place is been renovated a few years ago but still looks great. The part I loved most is the contact with Chris the owner, who is very nice to talk to and give tips about the region. Thanks a lot !

The hosts are a very lovely couple. They organized the luggage delivery service for me to my next hostel, since on the english version of the delivery website you can't do it online. And she took the time to anwer all my questions about recommendations regarding food places. All in all a very pleasant stay in Nawate Guesthouse.

Best bunk beds, matresses and (supersoft) bedsheets I've had during my entire stay in Japan. Very comfortable, large beds and the indoor air climate of the dorms is well controlled. Bathrooms are clean and common kitchen is well equipped. Location is perfect, close to main attractions and still only 15 mins walking from the train station (but Matsumoto is not that big anyway). The street is a pedestrian little shopping street, so very quiet at night as well. I loved my stay and would recommend this hostel to anyone going to Matsumoto.

The hosts were really nice. Great location, the guesthouse is nicely decorated and the beds comfortable. Also you have the possibility to do your laundry there, which is always good.

I have to really scratch my head for negatives. I would have preferred it to be a little cheaper, but honestly it was worth every penny
It was amazing, in a perfect location right in the heart of the hip, tourist area of Matsumoto, with excellent facilities and a great chill lounge. The owners were super friendly and run a café/bar downstairs. Plus, there is free (real, high quality) coffee available all the time.

Like all other reviews Nawate Guesthouse was a great place to stay. Walking distance to the castle, actually the city itself is very walkable. There are lots of shops and restaurants in proximity. The owner was very friendly and caring, he contacted me to make sure I was able to get to the guesthouse ok as it was snowing and the trains had major delays. It was low season so I was lucky enough to have the place to myself. One of the cleanest guesthouses I have been to, bathrooms were spotless, and the little details made it that much more comfortable. Bunk beds were comfy, there was a power board at the head of my bed which meant I was able to charge more than one electronic device at a time. Additional heater provided in the room since it was winter. Clean and tidy kitchen space.
