A beautiful traditional guest house. We were warmly greeted on arrival by the very kind owner. We stayed in the green room which has a lovely seating area and a view over the interior garden. The bathrooms are shared and very clean. The property is conveniently located on the bus loop with easy access to all the tourist sites. There is also a nice cafe on the street. I would recommend to anyone visiting Kanazawa!

Absolutely nothing!

Our host was incredibly welcoming, we felt almost like we were staying at a family's intimate home. The Machiya is beautifully preserved and restored, with modern touches (a shared modern bathroom). Our room with tatami mats and view of the sweet garden was like a dream. This was our most unique stay of our whole trip in Japan and we loved every moment. We only wished we could have spent more time there! If you love culture, art and history, you will find the most beautiful details around the home: flower arrangements, gold leaf painted items, traditional furniture and more. A unique opportunity not to be missed if you are looking for a true cultural experience in a shared Machiya. Walking distance to amazing Kenrokuen Garden!

No yugarta available. It is good to have, but may be too troublesome for others to climb up and down stairs..

Very warm, helpful, and friendly hostess! Cleanliness of the room and the shared facilities. Love the traditional Japanese style with a modern twist of this guesthouse! Close to transportation, and possible walking distance to some points of interest!

Having to leave this gem

Beautiful guesthouse that provides an authentic vibe. The food suggestions provided were all top notch local hits, with more options than we had time to try over 3 days. Close proximity to all the big ticket items. Staff were very hospitable even picking us up and dropping us back at the train station which was too kind. Loved it and I'd recommend it any day

The guesthouse has been sensitively renovated to reflect its age (100+ years). It's like stepping back in time with all the modern facilities and comforts. My host was lovely and enjoyed practicing her English with me. It would be a great accommodation option for a small group as facilities are shared...or a great way to get to know fellow travelers.

The température in the shared area ( bathroom and restroom) was a bit cold but the rest was perfect.

Very unique and beautiful house. Good communication with the staff and They gave us a lots of recommandation for restaurants ect . The Room was clean and cosy.

We didn't realize our room was on the second floor and so we had to go down a flight of stairs to go to the bathroom at night... as we are older, this wasn't ideal. Only one plug, away from the beds.

Charming building, has a nice atmosphere as you run into other guests. Small communal area for preparing tea and coffee and heating things up (if you can figure out the microwave...would have been nice to have some instructions in English).

it was missing a toothbrush which is normally always given in Japan. There is a coffee maker but it is not easy to use. A pot of coffee already made for guests would have been a nice touch.

About 15 minutes walk from the kanazawa castle; shared restroom is not on the same floor as the room

The owner is super nice, and the place is beatuifully designed! The room is spacious and comfortable.

The showers were a bit basic and not very comfortable. It can get a bit too cold.

Helpful staff, the house is preserved very well, it feels very authentic and there is a nice shared space where you can have coffee whilst enjoying the views of their beautiful garden.

super cold ! due to the very thin wood/paper walls you can hear everything (which we knew upfront) but some guests were super inconsiderate - making noises at midnight - even though there is a nightrest! The colour from the green wall comes off - I damaged my trousers that hung on the hatstand close to the walls. As the host only showed up for check in there was no chance to clarify that, felt super anonymous and impersonal. (like providing extra blankets or checking on the guests)

Guest wifi should be re-configured to work in all guest rooms without a lot of effort on the part of the guest, who may not have time to fuss around trying to get wifi to work.
