Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyI would maybe expand a tiny bit on the breakfast, only a suggestion.
The setting is beautiful, especially because so many trees were preserved, so really one has the feeling of the “jungle meets the beach”. The rooms and the terraces are super spacious. WiFi works well.

The architecture was beautiful, the design was noticeably well thought out and probably the most beautiful hotel room we have ever stayed in. The terrace was lovely for sitting out and watching the waves while enjoying a drink. Situated on a quiet beach with rough seas perfect for body boarding with the family. The food in the restaurant was great, something for everybody with Asian as well as western dishes. We ate every meal in the hotel as it was so good. The personal touches like the soft drinks in the antique ice box in the room, as well as the Sri Lankan sweets which were refilled each day, really made this stay special. You could tell the owner had really thought about what makes a hotel great and had actioned all those personal touches.

SpainOne thing they could improve is tea and coffee in the rooms. I know you can ask for them in the bar area but I really enjoy having a cup of tea first thing in the morning in the room.
Absolutely loved the hotel! The location is paradise and the interior design and details of the hotel are stunning.

United KingdomRubbish from beach to garden, I understand this area isn't necessarily the hotel's responsibility but this is pretty much my only constructive feedback apart from the fact there was a misleading currency error by booking.com which presented the final cost incorrectly - not the hotel's fault.
Great location, right on Mawella Beach and within easy distance of other stunning beaches on both sides. Staff were very helpful and personable throughout with excellent care and attention to detail expected. Absolutely loved the interiors, a lot of love has gone into the design and it shows. Food was really good, great fresh seafood and breakfast options whilst rooms are well-stocked with complimentary beverages and traditional Sri Lankan sweet treats. Pool and garden area well-maintained and sun loungers comfortable and in ample supply for occupancy. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend as an ideal boutique option along this stretch.

BahrainSmall pool, lizards in the room (but that’s the case in many places) and located in a bit of a remote area, but nothing terrible at all. We enjoyed our stay here a lot.
Spacious rooms and a great location with the beach at your doorstep. Very nice owner and good food at the restaurant. Would definitely stay here again!

IrelandNothing we didn’t like about the hotel however it could definitely be better sign posted from the main road. Our driver even with Google maps found it hard to find.
A beautiful secluded hotel in Tangalle. We were welcomed with a beautiful complimentary cocktail that we ended up continuously ordering poolside as it was so good! The rooms themselves are beautifully decorated and well air conditioned! The beds are super comfy. The star of the show though is their kitchen, this was some of the best food we had on our trip, breakfast, lunch and dinner and is very reasonably priced. The staff were also really welcoming and accommodating and even made us BLTs (really tasty) for our excursion as we were missing breakfast! For those interested, we also booked snorkeling through the hotel which was fun. A boat collected us at 07:30am and we set out for the morning - worth it if you have some time although as your snorkeling next to the reef the waves can make the water slightly cloudy.

This was without doubt one of the best hotels we have stayed at - anywhere! The staff were amazing, the food was excellent and the facilities were perfect for a holiday hotel. The rooms were very comfortable and each one is decorated individually. The beach is just the other side of a row of trees next to the pool and when you get onto the beach it is deserted. Cocktails were delicious and the complimentary beer and soft drinks in the rooms are a really nice touch. Just the perfect place - thank you to everybody for making our stay so wonderful - even Loki!

United KingdomMost hotels offer tap water with your meals but you had to buy either still or sparkling water, which at that price should be complimentary.
Located on a very quiet beach, it offers the option to spend time away from the bustle as well as access to a number of more touristy beaches. The hotel provides body boards, which I used multiple times a day, and is so close to the beach that you can come right back in and lay next to or get into the pool. I also loved that there was a ladle and fresh water at my doorstep to remove any sand before entering the room. The food was delicious, and the service impecable.

United KingdomI had to chase the stray dog from next-door off my balcony each morning, as she slept on my balcony sofa. My bathroom (I had the upstairs room in the furthest away building from the restaurant) had an ominous smell (I think drains) but it didn't impact my trip and is just a point of feedback for the hotel.
Hands down, this was the best hotel I have EVER stayed in. The hotel is run by an English guy who has spent a long time in Asia and settled in Sri Lanka, he really has thought of everything! He is always on site, welcomes you to the hotel and makes you feel very welcome, with answers to all questions. The hotel is absolutely stunning, set on the gorgeous Mawella Bay. The attention to detail was second to none. The hotel is only a few years old and the decor is divine, colonial influence classic style with gorgeous colours. The bay is quiet with only a few local fishing boats. They are fully sustainable with no plastic and other incentives to support the locals. I spent 3 weeks in Sri Lanka with my final week relaxing on the south coast, including 3 nights at Halcyon. It is quite remote and you need to tuktuk into town, however, I was very content just chilling by the gorgeous pool, which is large enough for lengths. The food is fantastic and has both western and local cuisine. Having spent 2 weeks eating Sri Lankan food, I welcomed some non Asian food at this point in my trip. The food, however, is not cheap but and you can of course get local cuisine around the corner for a snippet of the price. The cocktails are exceptional, I recommend trying as many of them as you can whilst you are there! The coffee is also great and they do different milks - e.g. I have oat milk. The staff are exceptional and nothing is too much. They had the perfect level of attentiveness whilst not being annoying. The room service is fantastic. Wifi is also great as they have their own line. The hotel doesn't allow young kids so it is very peaceful. There are boogie/paddle boards/small sailing boats you can take out (no charge) at your leisure. If you're looking for a gorgeous setting to explore neighbouring towns or to just chill and soak up the sun, Halcyon is a truly fantastic place to stay. A huge thank you to them for such a memorable end to my trip!!

We loved halcyon mawella! We stayed for three nights and it was our favourite place of the trip! It is done so nicely, the rooms and the restaurant and pool are all perfect. The staff are all very friendly and the food and drinks are all delicious! You must try the Halcyon Spritz. The area feels remote and less built up than other places and the beach itself is great and easily swimmable and lovely to walk down. We rented a moped which was fun to explore some local beaches, silent beach is nearby and stunning! We also stayed outside Galle on the beach but preferred everything this had to offer.
