Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ChinaThe room is not really clean and there is a bar underneath our room and it was SO LOUD on weekend nights. We couldn’t fall asleep even with our earplugs on.
The staff are really nice and they are willing to answer the questions and give suggestions on local experiences.

United KingdomIt was not clean. Our towels were stained, the bathrooms were dirty, toilets not working, and not a lot of natural light in our room. As a foreigner, I thought “downtown” was a good location, but it’s not. Promised welcome drinks were never given to us, and apparently asking for clean towels is frowned upon.
The vibe of the hotel was nice – a lot of events, young people, and good staff.

BrazilWhen I got there, they charged me for the room, even though it had already been paid via Booking. Only after I mentioned it, they double checked and then cancelled the credit card transaction. The room was terribly stinky, as if it had not been cleaned for days, and it had not been properly cleaned (there were other people’s “hairs” in the toilet, just so you have a better notion of how bad it was). I talked to the recepcionist and he said there was nothing they could do, because the cleaner would be available only the next day. I asked if they had another room available and this person said they didn’t. I checked Booking and saw there were other private rooms available, but this same person said they were also not clean. After I sent pictures to their WhatsApp, showing that the room and bathroom were dirty, the receptionist came to the room and gave me a key a clean private room - as I suspected, he was lying when he said there wasn’t any other room available. At least, this other room was cleaned. The air conditioner would not work unless they allowed that on the reception. I only found that out after going downstairs to talk to the receptionist once again (because he wouldn’t reply to my messages on WhatsApp nor answer the phone - yeah, the level of service provided was this great). The next night, I had to let him know once again that I would need the AC (because it had been deactivated), but he didn’t do a thing. I asked again personally, sent message, tried to call, but he chose to ignore it until the next day. I had never seen anyone act like that in the hospitality industry. It was the worst service ever!

ArgentinaThe room does not have air conditioning, it does not have a fan, the lockers are mostly broken and cannot be locked and also I did not receive sheets for my bed. In addition to this, the hostel looks very different from what Selina has us used to.

CanadaThe reception and general service staff appeared to be unresponsive and, in several instances, outright rude, which is not the level of service I expected from an establishment like Selina. There was a distinct lack of attentiveness and consideration, and on more than one occasion, I felt that some staff members seemed disoriented and perhaps even under the influence, which is utterly unacceptable. Furthermore, there was a significant issue with my refund. Despite numerous attempts to rectify the situation and numerous assurances from the staff, I have not yet received my refund. This situation not only reflects poorly on the staff's ability to manage guest requests effectively but also on the establishment's credibility. Lastly, the cleanliness of the apartment left much to be desired. Upon my arrival, I found the apartment in a filthy state with visible dirt and hair on the floor. This lack of attention to basic cleanliness is not what one would expect from a hospitality establishment and added to the overall disappointment. I sincerely hope that Selina Mexico Downtown takes these concerns into serious consideration. Guest satisfaction should be of utmost importance, and currently, it seems to be severely lacking. It's unfortunate to see such potential marred by these issues. I look forward to seeing improvements in these areas if I ever decide to give this establishment another chance.
the only thing that is acceptable is the location. but instead you should stay in condesa.

United Kingdommy first night I had cockroaches gruelling over me. I complained in the morning (once I had realised I wasn’t just dreaming) and they moved/upgraded me which was good. Though in my new room the toilet didn’t work (no biggie just a bit frustrating). The next day I come in fairly late (about 11pm) and very tired, the cleaners had locked my bathroom so I had to go down to reception, then to security, then back up to get in unlocked. Also, even from the top floor the road noise is probably the loudest I have ever experienced. Generally speaking, there are much better options than Selina Mexico City.

United KingdomThree things (in order of importance): 1) the location is BAD - neither in the historic centre nor in the safe, lush zone. Getting to ether “good” area involved quite a walk - this was often faster than taxi/Uber due to M.City’s traffic. (So you’re kind of stuck in a place you don’t want to be.) 2) the atmosphere is very un-Selina, little Inter-guest interaction and no encouragement or particular warmth from the staff. 3) my room was clean, but the bathroom REAKED of bleach and the same aggressive smell you find in men’s public toilets in the UK (I think they use urinal salts to cover other smells?) This doesn’t make me loose faith in Selina, but do not pick this place on its brand name - it doesn’t even close to live up to the usual quality.
The rooms are fairly priced in relation to other Mexico City hotel rooms

MexicoI paid a deposit for a towel upon arrival but apparently this wasn’t recorded by the receptionist at the time - when I returned the towel and requested my deposit the staff member on the desk questioned me sceptically for some time, insisting I didn’t pay a deposit. I persevered until he gave me the money back, after which he completely ignored me when I said thank you and goodbye. Felt like I was being accused of stealing 80 pesos! The communal kitchen was still closed even at 8am, there’s no free drinking water, and very few showers for a lot of people. Half the bedside lamps in my dorm didn’t work.
Location is good and beds are relatively comfy

AustraliaThis was my second time staying at this Selina hostel. The first time I was travelling solo in 2019 and had a great time meeting lots of new people and making lots of friends at the bar areas and the events that the hostel put on. So once my partner and myself decided to go to Mexico City, we were keen on making some friends to explore the city with and have a good time. We decided to stay at Selina and get a private room over a normal hotel because we wanted to be social with other likeminded travellers We were severely underwhelmed with the vibe of the place since I last stayed here. What was once known as a party hostel was now a ghost town with barely anyone attending the social events and enjoying the common spaces. We went to the hostel bar each of the nights we stayed and the place was always dead so that was a mission failure. Obviously that’s not the hostels fault as they don’t control who stays there but it is something to keep in mind if you are thinking similarly to us. This wasn’t the main reason for our negative review though however as we encountered many other issues with this place - Our room was quite rundown with huge water damage on the ceiling, floorboards that felt very unstable and broken and a shower with little pressure and a low temperature. There was also a used condom wrapper in our room as well when we arrived - The bed was not comfortable, very hard and you felt the springs every time you rolled over, the headboard was barely attached and felt like it could fall at any minute. - The fitted sheet on the mattress had no elastic to it whatsoever so it meant that through the night as you rolled over every so often, this sheet would come off and you would wake up sleeping on the bare mattress which I thought was a bit gross - our light flickered and eventually stopped working completely - Both sets of towels we were given shed off some fibres or residue all over us and so after showering we ended up being covered in lint
The hostel is located in a nice convenient location close to a lot of good things in Mexico City. The 24hr security was also a nice and reassuring thing to have. The common areas were nice with pool table, bar, seating etc. The double glassed windows were a nice touch to keep sound out although it was still quite noisy outside but that is what you must expect being so close to the centre of the city
