The reception was very poor, unprofessional and inefficient. There was a strong smell of smoke in the reception area and even, but less so, in our room - caused I think by staff seeming to be heavy smokers

We arrived late three people in two rooms. Both rooms were freezingly cold and had clearly not been heated for a Long time. There was no heat in the radiators. Supposedly one was expected to use the aircondition to heat the room but That was insufficient to get a reasonable temperature in the High-ceilinged room. When we wanted a shower the following morning the shower could not be turned on because the fixture was broken and partly missing. When we complained in the morning (we had to leave Early and the hotel has no staffed reception), the person responding claimed That the shower worked even without the missing bits. So, freezing rooms and no shower, and no compensation except an offer of discount on a future stay. I would recommend avoiding this hotel

Had a staff member in my room at 7.30 in the morning for no reason. Kept me from sleeping a total of 3 more times. He went into the hallway of my room twice more to apparently access a storage room. Shouting over the hallway, making calls with someone on speaker phone (I could literally hear every word he was saying). Horrible way to start your day. Baffled at this experience and unprofessionalism.

Excellent location in a fun city, very cool hotel in an older building but the rooms felt modern and the bathroom was excellent. Good check in experience, parking is less than five minutes away at about 8 euros/24 hours. Great stay and would definitely stay again

The staff was nice, but I wouldn't classify this place as a 4-star hotel, it was more like a hostel. I stayed for 4 days and there was no cleaning service and dust everywhere.

Really beautiful inner city hotel. Historical environment in a very old building. I'll rebook a room next week for my weekly business meetings in Nijmegen. Room clean as it should be. All facilities that you need are at the room.

This hotel falls short of its 4-star rating, and I advise avoiding it if you have limited time and are there for work. Most important issues include: - I have been provided a room that was not cleaned up. Luckily, there was another place available and they provided me with a superior room - Getting a correct invoice was very difficult even though I had explicitly requested it and provided the necessary data when booking. I had to remind them about the invoice multiple times. Even though they had the data in front of them (we looked together at my reservation with my request and the data I shared), I was asked to write the data again even if it was on screen! I refused because I was already late for an appointment, but I was told that it would be available the next day. From there, I had to ask to remake the invoice 4 times (the first time there was no data, and the last time still had some errors but it was acceptable) - You can't obtain the invoice for breakfast, too, as you have to ask the other hotel in which you have to go to eat. That created more problems. I waited for 20 minutes as this was sorted out, but in the next morning there was someone else who refused to provide the solution that was finally agreed the day before. - The superior room was really good, overall. Unfortunately, the room was pretty noisy even when I switched off all the devices (e.g. air conditioning). I did not sleep well at all and I resorted to extract the card from the electricity socket. - Have you ever had someone coming into your room at 10.30 to remind you that the checkout is within 11, which is something that you clearly now from the rules written on Booking.com? That’s terrible. I visited another 4-star hotel in Nijmegen in 2022 for a comparable price, and it was a much better experience than De Gulden Wagen. I even had breakfast at the previous hotel, which was conveniently located on my route. However, it is located 2 km from the city center (Nijmegen Lent)

the only asset is the position compared to other hotels. It is close to everything.

Small issue the remote for the television was not working

Firstly the host was exceptional at check-in, come out of his way to attend to our needs, friendly and very well mannered. We had a little chat about his electric motorcycle. The room was very nicely decorated and very clean.

Somebody from the staff iwalking in the room early in the morning. The internet connection was very bad. There was a dirty towel in the bathroom. The room was not totally done yet. A wall needed finishing. Wires hanging from the ceiling.....

The room smelled of the previous guest, which was very unpleasant. No one was on duty and I was locked out of the hotel on a rainy day. The front desk is not friendly.
