Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MexicoCons: The location is some 10-15min walk from Thamel and major transport hubs but involves passing through the local neighborhood, that is very sage but be unsettling for some travelers. Breakfast could use more variety to avoid repetitio, is always an omelet and a couple of toasts.
Pros: Homely and simple place with a clean atmosphere. Comfortable amenities like hot water, a fan, and AC. Friendly staff, though a bit pushy with tour and transport offers (not overwhelming). Payment via bank cards available with a 3.5% commission. Great flexibility to book tours, transport, and intercity travel on your own, saving money. Basic but decent breakfast of toast and an omelet, though it can get repetitive. Quiet and safe neighborhood, although a bit of a walk (10-15 minutes) to Thamel and major transport hubs, through local streets that might be unsettling to some. About Nepal: Local SIM/eSIM is recommended for easy communication, and the Pathao/InDrive apps make moving around cheap and simple (just remember to pay in cash). Be mindful of ATM fees and cash-only payments. Nepal offers more animal protein options than India. The people are friendly and more open-minded than expected. Roads can be rough, so plan your travels wisely and avoid tight connections when flying out.

United KingdomTv wasn't easy to use and kept going off. If possible I would go for a room upstairs. There was a table with chairs outside my room so I was disturbed when people sat there.
Lovely staff, especially Santash. Breakfast was also very good (coffee, omlette, potatoes, and toast). The double room was spacious with fan and hot water. It was also clean.

We stayed with Gurung’s home for almost a week during the floods that hit Kathmandu. We stayed longer than intended but found in Santos a warm and helpful person who made our trip. Rooms are basic but accommodating and the staff definitely go the extra mile! Hope to be back one day.

DenmarkGetting to Thamel, while walkable, can eat a bit of your time available in Kathmandu.
Really cosy place, the rooms are clean, well ventilated, and the hosts offer a lot of services you might need, like laundry, bus/transportation booking. Santosh is extremely welcoming and funny and makes you feel like you’re in a good place. Good common area to meet other travelers and they offer meals and drinks.

Netherlands-
Gurung's home truly welcomes you like a family. It's so nice to be received by an attentive and friendly staff. They help you with anything - from getting passport pictures to recommendations about your hiking plans. Santosh, our host is the friendliest guy we have met in Kathmandu. He goes out of his way to make you feel welcomed in Nepal and puts his heart into his job. The rooms are well priced, and the place is tucked away from the business of Thamel but is still close to it. Thank you for ensuring a nice stay for us!

SpainEverything is fantastic but if I had to choose one positive aspect over the rest I would definitely mention the atmosphere that the host creates. We felt really comfortable during our several stays at Gurung's Home. Gurung's Home has been our oasis in Kathmandu. Everytime we went back there after exhausting long trips around the country, the amazing host Shantosh was there to welcome us with a kind smile and a wonderful masala tea.

IndiaI recently stayed at this hotel and was immediately struck by the calm and peaceful atmosphere as I entered the property. The place exudes positive vibes and a welcoming ambiance, reminiscent of a monastery. Despite my early morning arrival, the staff greeted me warmly and promptly arranged my room without any hesitation. They were also incredibly helpful in guiding me around the local area and even booked a cab for my next destination. The food was delicious, and the entire property is beautifully designed, radiating authentic Nepali vibes. Overall, a truly peaceful and delightful experience.
