Overall, a comfortable and practical place to stay for a ski trip.

The bathroom and toilet in the middle made the room feel a bit damp.

Convenient location for skiing at Mt. Dobson, just a 40-minute drive.

There was only one bathroom with two showers and two toilets for the entire floor. The walls were very thin, and I could hear the guest in the next room snoring.

I stayed one night at this hotel and didn’t see any receptionist or staff. The room was clean, although the hotel was very old — I don't think it has been renovated since 1850.

The bathroom facilities were a bit rustic, but everything was clean. We were cold in the night and didn't locate the extra bedding until the morning. It would have been good if it had been where we could find it more easily.

No breakfast offered. The evening meal was excellent, very generous servings, the bed was comfortable and the bedding was crisp and smelled of laundry soap.

Regardless of being in the budget price range, we expected it to be cleaner, especially in the bathrooms. We are familiar with accommodation in old country pubs but this was not up to scratch. The communal dining room was very dingy and poorly equipped with mugs but no cutlery and no crockery even though there was a fridge, microwave, toaster etc.

In a nice town with a good bakery nearby. Internet was good.

The interior of the Gladstone is relatively dated. Multiple faucets did not work (the hot water in our room and some in the bathrooms).

The Gladstone is a historic landmark, first built in 1884 and updated in 1916. Everything was very clean. We had a simple double room with shared bathrooms. Very pleasant and helpful hosts. At the relatively low cost it was a good bargain for a one night stay. While on the Main Street of Fairlee, there was no traffic noise at night even with the window open.

A bit run down but clean and comfortable for an overnight stop.

Right on the main street opposite a reserve with a great cafe next door. If you like faded-glory small town hotels this is a classic. The room was sunny and well-ventilated with an outlook and the bedding was clean. There was a shared lounge/ dining room with tea/coffee, kettle, microwave, TV. It has seen better days but the charm is still there and it's by far the cheapest accommodation around so great value for money.

The hotel met our expectations and needs.

The hotel, like many others, in small inland towns had a strong sense of history, and somewhat faded glory, but we enjoyed the architecture, and the history of the town in a wider sense. The current owners are working hard to enhance the ambience of the building and were helpful and friendly. Car parking was private and safe. We had a pleasant meal in the evening in the hotel. Some other lovely guests. We were essentially passing through on our way from Queenstown to Christchurch by hire car - the trip was amazing - and we really enjoyed our pies from the famous bakery.

It really needs some love. I personally love this old places so I don't mind them being worn, it ads to the experience, but this place really need some love and attention; just a hole list of small things. The bathroom cealing is covered in mold!!! (See photo) There is no sink, no plats or spoons in the communal erea. (Just cups, knives and forks) not enough binns in rooms and bathrooms. Missing somewhere to hang our cloths (we booked the most expensive room) Also note the pub downstairs, it's a bit noicy if you are an early sleeper.

Nice location. Friendly staff. Fair shower pressure. Toilets where clean. Looooved waking up up to the beautiful cealings. Beds are new but to hard for my liking.

we arrived late and hotel is old 1920s so a bit of a rabbit warren to find Public bar & check in. I wanted a coffee but nothing available at bar 🤨 understandable, dining room, couldn’t find light switch, a hanging one, but they didn’t provide any sachets of anything, I had my own but no milk. Understand you bring your own but justify a few essentials could have helped stay.

Rooms were clean & tidy, bathrooms were shared & tidy as well.
