Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere isn't a lift, but stairs are easy to manage.
The whole experience of Alto House was a joy from the time of booking to the moment we left, the communication could not be faulted to ensure our stay was nothing short of perfect. Anything we wanted (which we didn't) during our stay was catered for. The bed was so comfortable, it was like being at home, the room was clean. Bathroom seems new and what a lovely shower too, room was very clean, towels are nice and big. Other reviews have commented about noise, we didn't hear anything at all from other guests, we were room 25. Although there is building work going on in the adjacent property but starts and ends at reasonable times There is a lovely terrace which gives wonderful views of Faro, be sure to go up and see. Breakfast was lovely and just enough for us, it was lovely to eat on the terrace in the lovely sunshine. Distance it's a bit of a walk, around 20 minutes to the old town/marina, we walked in during the day which is mostly downhill and got a Bolt taxi back at night costing between 4 and 6€. From the airport around 12 Euros at night, we paid 7€ back. Thank you for looking after us so well and ensuring our stay in Faro was enjoyable.

FranceAlthough it's clearly written on booking, the room is really small. But what was not on the pictures was that not all room has a view. We were not lucky and got the one in front of the reception, the view was... The neighbors house. But it was fine for one night!
The room is modern, bed is really comfy, the bathroom is impeccable, there is AC and you can watch Netflix. Also there was plenty of parking spot in front of the hotel at the time we were there (beginning of June). I was impressed with the breakfast, it was nice to take it in the sun on the terrace. People on the reception were quite nice !

United KingdomThere was nothing to dislike.
We booked for 6 nights based on previous reviews and were really pleased we did. After asking for a room with a view if possible we were delighted with the room we got. Top floor and a view well worth looking at every morning and evening. In the room itself was a very comfortable bed, great pillows, tv, air con, fridge, coffee machine, jug of water and enough space in the wardrobe to put our clothes. The shower was powerful and there was plenty of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. A hairdryer also. The towels were lovely big bath towels. Right at the top of the property is a roof terrace where you can sit and watch the sunset if you wish, or be amazed at the wonderful swifts that swoop around the area. You’ll occasionally see a low flying stork too. Breakfast was continental. Cheeses, meats, pastries, cereal, breads, yogurts, melon, coffee, tea, orange juice. You can sit inside or outside on a covered terrace. The staff were really friendly and made us feel welcome. We walked down and up to the accommodation from the marina area of Faro. It took about 15/20 mins. There’s a hill back up but plenty of places to stop if you need to. We found the Pingo Doce supermarket which sells superb Portuguese wines. There are local buses to catch if you don’t want to walk. We’d stay here again for sure. Requesting room 35 if we did.

BelgiumVery well welcome at Alto hotel. We arrived with our own car but this is only 15 min walk from Faro old town center and harbor. Buffet breakfast as of 07:30 allowing to leave to airport for early flights. All facilities are modern and recently decorated - all nice. Comfortable bed...

IrelandGood location, easy to walk and modern clean room. Brilliant view. Staff was so nice and helpful. Good value for money and few things included like towels, shampoo and shower gel, coffe machine in the room like in a hotel. A breakfast included in price which was a great suprice as it wasn't mentioned in booking description. The breakfast room had a lovely outside garden to sit in, which is lovely experience to spend time in and relax. Absolutely recommending!

United KingdomIt would be great to have a bit more shelf space in the shower and bathroom (otherwise you’re spending a lot of time picking up toiletries off the floor :)
Lovely location, chic accommodation with a fab balcony, friendly staff. We stayed for one night and felt so welcomed. Make sure you get up to the rooftop terrace for the sunset!

I liked everything, the food (the buffet has something for everyone), the bed (very comfortable), the bathroom (a spacious shower, an additional plus that the bathroom had normal-sized shampoo, gels, hand soap), the view from the window (every day we could admire the sunrise sun with birds singing), location (on the outskirts but close to the center, a larger shop or a bus stop. I recommend it in every respect

United KingdomNothing. We really enjoyed our stay and if we're back in Faro we'll be booking here again.
Great location in a lovely, quiet street and a short walk from the buzz of the town. Check-in was so easy, the staff were lovely and contacted us ahead of time to see when we'd be arriving. There was a bit of a mix-up re. check in times but the staff went out of their way to accommodate us early. The room was a good size, nicely decorated, clean and cool with a balcony which we really appreciated. And the roof terrace is a fab added bonus. Another bonus was the breakfast - accommodation was described as room only on booking.com, but we were told at check-in that breakfast was included in the price. And it was a really nice breakfast.
