Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicAt the time of our stay it was a bit colder and rainy in Madeira. Although there were 2 electric radiators in the house, they were not enough to heat all 3 rooms especially when it was raining outside. There was therefore a big temperature difference between the kitchen, where there was no radiator, and the living room, where there was a radiator. But we managed, the radiators could be moved from one room to another.
We really liked the house Alhinho we stayed in. Nice cosy living room, big kitchen, big comfortable beds with amazing pillows. The surroundings of the house Alhinho were also beautiful. We visited during March/April and everything around was blooming or was green, a beautiful apple orchard. The house had a beautiful private terrace/garden, which we did not manage to use because of the bad weather. The house was equipped with a bathtub and hot water flowed immediately and was really warm, I was so happy after a hike in the rain. We did not have breakfast in this accomodation.

SwedenThe ventilation could have been better, at times it was a bit humid in the cabin even though we had the dehumidifier on.
It really felt like a home away from home! Private and relaxing location, beautiful surroundings and everything you needed was there. The beds were really comfortable! Sofia, the owner, was really helpful and friendly and welcomed us with a fantastic sourdough bread. Thanks for everything, we would definitely like to come back!

United KingdomThe kitchen could have had some more knifes and a sharp ones too, better chopping boards and bigger plates but we managed to make some good meals. The fire didn't draw properly and damp timber so was quite smokey into he room and took a whole box of firefighters to burn the wood we laid in the open fire the first night. The electric heater was ample as it was a small space to heat so didn't use the open fire again. There was a surcharge that we were told on arrival as it was in Santa Cruz district of 2 euros per person per night. This we were not aware of so just letting you know.
Beautiful location, in the mountains and forests. Comfortable bed and great shower and bath. Easy check in and parking. Great to get away from the business of the city and to be close to nature and animals. Fresh bread on arrival was a treat and the peacocks and levada close by to walk along. Lovely sun in the morning in January until about 3:30-4pm in the garden to enjoy the warmth of the sun.

United KingdomThe owner's dog gets excited every time one enters or exits the place and barks for quite some time. This didn't spoil anything though.
The place is absolutely stunning. The views are amazing, the house is so pretty and beautifully designed. The kitchen has everything you need if you decide to stay in and cook for yourself on a rainy day (which we did). We were there over New Years avoiding the crowds of Funchal and its firework craze. Loved the quiet and the green. It's very private. Sofia is super organised and welcoming. There are wonderful walks starting right at Valle Paraizo. The pretty Camacha is a short walk away and we'd gone there for lunch and dinner a few times. We don't drive and got there and back from Funchal very easily by bus, bus stop is right by the entrance of the property. Peacocks walking around our house were delightful and added to the magical feel of the place, along with the beautiful trees, other birds and flowers.

United KingdomVery little - it was lovely. I would like to have known that there is an immediately neighbouring property which reduces the privacy but, as it happened, this was largely unoccupied and so not an issue.
Bolota is tiny but perfectly formed and ideal for a couple. It is beautifully located, thoughtfully designed, immaculate throughout and was a delightful place to stay. The support (messages to show you the way to find it, including a video, answers to questions etc) was superb.

Czech RepublicOnly thing to mention is that place is a little bit colder (mainly in evenings).
Absolutely amazing place, perfect for island exploration! Sofia is a perfect host. Breakfasts organised "remotely" = food delivery is good solution for this place. You have a lot of privacy in here.

United KingdomThis is an observation, not a criticism - the wardrobe was in the bathroom and the indoor dining table is small. Nothing can be done about either of these. That said, the outside table is fine, and a beautiful place to enjoy breakfast surrounded by a wonderful garden, blackbirds and, sometimes, peacocks.
Valle Paraizo, paradise valley, as the name implies, is an oasis of 'old madeira' in all its charm and beauty. Our accommodation was a former estate worker's cottage sympathetically renovated to deliver comfortable holiday accommodation with an extensive garden with its own path up to a nearby levada , itself a footpath to Monte. At least two restaurants are within walking distance, the nearest being about 800m, Tijuca. Here, we enjoyed espetada (skewered char-grilled steak) as good as you'll get anywhere. Note: cards not accepted at Tijuca but this is far from insurmountable as there is a cash machine at the very well-stocked Continente supermarket just five minute's walk further into the village. From Valle Paraizo it is a short drive to the Botanical Gardens and the Palhiero (Blandy) Garden; and about half an hour's drive to the highest drivable point of the island, Pico Arieero. Here, the views and walks are breath-taking, and that's an understatement.

Czech RepublicBeautiful and absolutely quiet location in the middle of vegetation and away from the tourist traffic. The accommodation is in a rustic local style but quite comfortable. Communication with the housekeeper only electronically which suited me fine. Ideal for tourists who want to discover interesting places on the island.

GreeceOne of the best accomodations we've ever been privileged enough to stay at. Gorgeous surroundings, and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk along an actual "Levada". We had a great experience, the host was incredibly helpful, and the amenities were great. The room was wonderful, cozy, clean, and perfect to relax!!! Don't forget the morning guest (peacock) that come in our yard to say goodmorning and the lovely dogs that were an absolute pleasure to hang around with them!!! Great touch it was the freshly baked delicious bread as a welcoming gift. Definitely a must do if you are looking for a good time in Madeira!!!

United KingdomThe property is very aptly named. We certainly felt like we were in paradise valley, The gardens in springtime are full of colour and delightfully scented. Our garden was peaceful and private, perfect for relaxing and well equipped with garden furniture and sun loungers. You also have access to stroll around the extensive grounds and meet the peacocks. You can enjoy longer walks on the levada that borders the gardens. The 129 bus from Funchal stops outside, there's a big supermarket a short walk away and several good restaurants so you don't need a car.
