How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The entrance of the property, The upstairs , the room not cleaned during our stay.

There are a lot of steps so maybe not ideal for those who might struggle climbing 3 or 4 flights. I was on the top floor which I managed but was a little tiring. There is an elevator which I believe is for luggage only.
The location was amazing, less than a minute walk from Baixa Chiado metro station. Loads of shops and eateries in the local area. The hostel was very clean, the staff lovely and helpful and the WC and showers were very clean. On the night of my arrival (Monday), I ate a lovely meal the chef had put on for 8 of us, this included crusty breadstick, olives, cheeses, chorizo, soup, lasagne, salad and chocolate cake all for €15......I would definitely stay here again.

The location is great, right by the metro station and all of the attractions. The staff is really helpful and kind, reception works 0-24h. Everything is cleaned daily. Breakfast is included and you can leave your luggage even after checkout for free.

The location was excellent - only 50m from the exit of the Baixa-Chiado metro. Plenty of options for dining in the streets around the hostel and supermarkets if you are self-catering. The hostel has a fabulous communal kitchen and sitting/living space and staff are super helpful and friendly. If back in Lisbon, I'd definitely stay here again.

For a hostel it was clean and quiet. Great climate control in the rooms as well. The breakfast was also quite fresh and yummy.

Only thing carrying up heavy case as there is no lift . Small problem
Staff fantastic. Went above and beyond . Cleanest hostel I have ever been in. Breakfast great and plenty of it . Location outstanding almost opposite the metro , opposite a department store and right in the heart of the old town but still quiet at night .

Really central, right next to Baixa-Chiado station and 10 min walk from the main shopping streets. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Super safe for solo female travellers too.

Our room was opposite a garbage collection centre which made very loud noises collecting garbage at night and had a strong bad smell if we let the window open a bit. That was the only negative but that delayed our night sleep. Reception is 2 floor sup with no lift but staff were kind enough to help us.
Good breakfast, great location from where we could walk to train, metro and city centre yet 20 mins from airport only. Very helpful staff. Clean room, dining and good common bathrooms. Free walking tours were also organized. Two of the staff were so kind enough to help us with our luggage as reception is 2 floors up. Staff spoke multiple languages including English so we got tips on how to get to any place.

I loved the free breakfast and how it created a communal dining experience - breakfast was where I made hostel friends. Amazing location. I liked that my room only had 4 beds in it, instead of the 8 you'll find at other hostels. I loved the multi-use aspect of the space. They have nightly dinners you can attend, full use of the kitchen for your own use, community hang out spaces. You can work/study in a side room like I did. They do "party" but its all outside the hostel, they partner with other orgs so you can do a pub crawl, walking tours if you like. The people here tended to skew older. This is definitely not the all 20's crowd. The staff is also incredibly helpful and they have true 24 hour check in service.

There is only one thing that I didn't like - there is no elevator in the building and the hostel is on the second floor. The stairs are very steep and it's hard to go up/down the stairs with heavy luggage. But even that wasn't a problem because the staff was very helpful and they brought my suitcase up to my room and downstairs when I was checking out.
I loved staying at the hostel! It is simply the best! The atmosphere was exceptional, very friendly and helpful stuff, clean room and bathrooms, free tea and coffee available any time day or night, simple but nice breakfast, and I could use the kitchen (fridge, microwave, etc) whenever I needed it. The location is just perfect. It is right in the center, a walking distance to many interesting places, and a minute walk to the metro station, if you need to go anywhere further away. I highly recommend the place.

The eating space could be larger to accommodate the crowd especially at breakfast.
