Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere is a musty smell but this comes with such a property that it’s made with a lot of wood and located high up in the hills.
The villa is really big and set in a beautiful garden. We especially liked the friendly ducks, chickens and rabbits! The location, in the mountain village of Santo do Serra, is perfect for exploring the north coast, Pico do Arieiro area and also close enough to Funchal. The inside of the villa has traditional decor which feels like stepping back in time. Our host Teresa was always very punctual when replying to messages and gave lots of information. We would definitely stay again.

PolandKeep in mind that this is an old house with all its pros and cons, which might not appeal to everyone. The double rooms are a bit cramped. A new frying pan would be useful.
We really enjoyed staying at Villa. We stayed in a group of 4 people. The place has a cozy and a unique atmosphere. One can feel a spirit of history of Madeira. Our host welcomed us with a delicious cake and a glass of genuine wine. We took our time to enjoy a beautiful and peaceful garden with rabbits hopping on the grass and singing birds. This was a truly an unforgettable experience.

PortugalThe house needs some renovation, keeping is old style. For example, the forniture in the kitchen, the heating and electrical system. The wifi was weak in some areas. Very important: if check out is at a certain time, this must be respected by both parties. Seeing the gate open when we were still in the house and seeing and cleaning lady walking around the house (nothing to complain about her because she was very kind), waiting for us to leave because someone had to come in before check-in time, was not very nice.
Dona Teresa, location, garden and pets. Absolutely amazing the welcome we received from Dona Teresa.

Czech Republicthe house was a bit scary with lots of random objects, the check in could be contactless :) and the electricity went down when we used the hairdryer, the living room could be more comfy - have a comfy couch for example
the house is big and private, there is lots of random rooms, the garden was amazing with little rabbits, chickens (roosters wake you up in the morning) and ducks that are always hungry, there is washing machine and dryer; with a car it is easily accessible to the mountains, east coast or around funchal

United KingdomWe were woken up each morning up the roaster, which having grown up on a farm we didn’t mind but others might not. House was a little cold inside due to thick walls, although plenty of blankets were provided!
Beautiful location with gardens central to lots of hiking and attractions. Wood burner stove was brilliant!

SpainIt's older than it looks in pictures. It's humid and smells like a church. The kitchen utsensils are very old. The house is also full of clutter and personally a bit scary at night (you could hear the floor boards creeking).
Quiet area, lovely rabbits, chickens and ducks although the roosters were really loud in the morning.

PolandOur host was not aware of our reservation, we arrived at our place and desperately tried to reach out to her, but she was not answering our messages in booking chat or phone calls to the number specified in booking reservation. We finally was able to call her with the number we found in google. We had to wait for over an hour for someone to drive to the place and clean the house before giving us the keys. The people that arrived were really polite and nice, (they were not the hosts) so I want to emphasize they did a good job and we don’t blame them. The place was far from clean and we even found some mold on wooden spoon in the kitchen.
It is a traditional old school house with a huge garden inside which you can meet chickens, ducks and rabbits. Near by there are places where you can drink real poncha, buy Bolo do caco from the street vendor and go to the second biggest market in Madera on Sunday. House is very vintage, some people will like it, some won’t. Also the drive there was quite a experience, very steep roads but it’s just how it is in Madera.

A BEAUTIFUL house, with a beautiful yard. It was old and rustic, but in a good way. We loved our stay.
