Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaThe hotel is very new. Some of the plumbing needs to settle down. (But then the maintenance staff is quick to correct it.) The rooms do not have a sea-view. Most times, of course, we hung out at the beach or the poolside. The beach can get tricky to swim in when the tide is coming in. The waves are aggressive. It is fine when the tide is moving out.
The hotel is well placed right on the beach off the east coast of the island. It is about 1.5 hours from Stone Town. It is a very new property, impeccably maintained and the lovely white paint on the East African styled rooms looks truly beautiful. The full length pool is the centre of the hotel activities and is on the beach. The rooms are large and the hotel was gracious enough to give us a lovely room with a separate walk-in closet area. Sleep was wonderful... the beds supremely comfortable. But it is the staff and the food that really win hearts. Led by Mr Aditya who is their GM, the staff (so many... really a lot to name) are well trained, always have a pleasant disposition and well understand the needs of experienced travelers. In fact, i sprained my food in the water (the waves are quite strong when the tide comes in) and they gave me all the help that i needed very quickly. At every step, the went out of the way for guests, all voluntarily. Chef Robin did a fabulous job with the food. I don't think I had better Zanzibaran food than here. We returned with some of the recipes home. The sand on this part of the beach is very fine and goes far out into the ocean. It is not crowded and there are sufficient hotel decks on the beach to chill. And lastly, Serengeti beer is much better than Kilimanjaro beer. Just my experience.

United StatesNo real complaints to be honest; it was far better than expected and great value for money!
Staff at the hotel were truly exceptional - a special shout-out to Evelyne and Haji, as well as the entire meals team (including Stella, Mussa, Fausta, Isaac, and Lucy in particular). It always felt like the team at Marijani were willing to go above and beyond to take care of us. In addition, the food itself in the hotel is wonderful - we were deliberately eating dinner at the hotel in particular every night since they did such a good job. All of this was of course in a hotel with great value for money. Rooms themselves were also great - very powerful rain shower, and ACs so temperature was always just right.

NorwayJust a few minor negatives: The place was new, and the General Manager who had been there since before the construction started was all over the place and did his micromanagement. He was a nice guy, but I think he made the staff a little bit afraid of taking decisions on their own. This was especially present at the reception where no one could take any decisions without checking with their manager (who was a middle manager); "can I get five Coca Cola delivered to my minibar?" "Have to check, I will call you back". "Can we get a late checkout?" "Have to check, I will come back to you?" "Can you change this 100 dollar bill into smaller bills?" "Have to check, can you please wait?" Another negative thing is the two price system: The prices at the hotel, for drinks (we had breakfast and dinner, and therefore drinks are not in the inclusive pack, are pretty stiff to say it mildly; 9 dollars for a bottle of sparkling water, 90 dollars for the transport from the airport to the hotel [this in a country where the average wage is 4 dollars an hour 120 dollars a month]. Given this you can ... at least try, we had success one time, to outsmart the hotel and negotiate directly with the drivers or a local middle man. Third negative thing: "The pictures at booking.com are not manipulated, but some are not real pictures, but 3D pictures were done by the architects, also the room we had didn't include the flowers and cool mirror that was there when they took the picture of the room. But ... all this said: We loved Marijana Beach Resort. If we don't come back, it's just because we prefer going to new places.
Let's take all the positives first. The resort opened in January, so it is new. That is great! Only one 3rd of the rooms were occupied, so you get a lot of attention from the staff. This means a lot of smiles and "hello, how are you?". Another positive thing was the kitchen. They served a buffet both for breakfast and dinner. And the food was always very fresh, the menu was new every morning and night, and we really liked it. More positive. We were given a room with a sea view. Fabolous. Also: Since I am an early bird, we got the best sunbeds at the beach every morning. And even more positive we were almost alone at the beach. And let's continue: Zanzibar is the perfect resort spot as the weather is always pleasant even if there is no blue sky or it is windy, it is never cold.

PortugalNothing....
Wonderfull experience... We booked the hotel for some days and than we left for another part of the island...and the day after we came back to Marijani because we loved the first days... All staff is incredible, competent, so kind, friendly and worry about make you feel good. From the manager, reception people, all staff (including housekeepers) until the cooking team and the AMAZING CHEF Anthony Robin... So talented and kind people. My wife has some food intolerance and they did specific bread just for her and adapted some dishes because of that...we are so gratefull for this warming team... we also keep in contact with some staff people... The hotel is brand new, everything is so beatifull and the food is fantastic!! The pool is amazing and the beach in front is so beautifull and comfortable with very good laying chairs...You also have a lovely SPA...totally recommend Hope coming back to this peace of paradise

LebanonThe bed mattress and pillows were not comfortable. We had a water problem in our room twice during a one week stay but was fixed on the spot. Room service is very limited in options after 22:00 - you can only order a cheese sandwich no variety. Reception were very pushy in requesting for the full details and digits on credit cards which for us is a bit fishy as this was never requested from us in any other country including in another hotel in Zanzibar
The location and safety are ideal. Cleanness is TOP. Very well equipped and maintained (new hotel). The breakfast and diner were rich and tasty. Staff are too friendly to a very curious extend sometimes, but the staff at the reception are led by a very professional woman Evelyne and at the dining area Romanos and Stella did a wonderful job. We received a nice welcoming on our first night with a bottle of Sparkling wine. Room service staff were very responsive and kind.

EgyptThe resort is unlucky to be loctaed on the beach, we were not able to use the beach during most of our stay because of the tides. Also the hotel allows beach boys to harrass the guests, I kbow it is the norma there, yet we have seen other hotel put some limitations on these guys and other hotel don't allow the beach boys to have full access of the beach. The team at the reception were not trained well on Booking systems, and we had to spend 6 hours going back and forth to the reception to modify our booking.
Room was exceptionally classy and clean, with an outstanding view staff are very friendly and they do their best to make sure you are satisfied. Pool was amusing. Good quality is really good, except for the deserts. The hotel is using smart systems which we liked.

I loves the food spread both at dinner and breakfast. I got very sick during my 2nd day they did cater to me and checked up in me and allowed me to late checkout but they need to cascade information well. We found that the gentleman at the reception had no idea I wa I well so he was not accepting late check out until we said we wanted to talk to the manager so they need to cascade information

HungaryAs its a new hotel, having some small issues can be solved easily like staff education, speed of lunch service and room cleaning. The only real hint is the group of beach boys, who are really annoing and hard to handle them.

HungaryI would mention only two things - where hotel has room for improvements: 1. The food quality is great (loved the dinner menu and breakfast), however during the day mainly pizza is the only option. Which should be great, but the quality was far from a minimum level requirement. 2. Beach boys… they are part of Zanzibar or Kenya, it is not questionned. However in this place, their attitude was really unacceptable compared to other regions. You are not able to go into the beach/water without closely following by 5-10 beach boys and continuously speaking to you. You can be frienly, you can be calm, you can be angry… nothing helps. They do not let any privacy for you. This has to be changed as the hotel and the Staff is amazing.
New and beautiful hotel with great design - even looking at small nuances. Absolutely relaxing environment - due to they have just opened it, were only about 10 guests. Staff is amazing, friendly and managed all our requests.
