Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe location is brilliant. We walked from there to Fisherman's Wharf and Oracle Park and you're steps away from Union Square. For a city centre hotel the staff were really friendly and helpful. They stored our luggage for us from check out until we were ready to leave SF at 5.30. The room wasn't huge but it was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom was good.

NetherlandsI didn't dislike a thing, but I can say that the furniture is a bit old. special TV, carpet, and switches.
The location is perfect, being close to Union Square, so you can easily access anywhere by public transportation. The room conveniently has a mini fridge. It also has a bathtub to relax after a busy day

United KingdomWe were upgraded to a larger room . However there was a strange smell and when we mentioned to the concierge , he kindly let us change to another room in the same part of building . Beautiful room but unfortunately the smell was still there , I don’t know if it was the fresheners that maids use , or because it was in the older part of hotel … couldn’t figure it out but it lingered and our clothes even smelt of it . Other than that , everything was lovely.
Location was excellent in this hotel with lots of history . We were upgraded to a larger room. Housekeeping great and Towels were changed daily .

United KingdomNothing we didn't like about the hotel however San Francisco is somewhat run down and you needed to have your wits about you when out and about. The poverty within the city is pretty obvious everywhere you go.
Hotel was in a central location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. It was great to have access to a heated pool after a day out and about especially as air temp wasn't high.

New ZealandIt didn't bother us, but the coffee percolator was missing it's glass jug and there was no electric jug for heating water. Hot water was available from the fitness centre though.
Hotel was very well located, near central city and close to the BART stop (Powell St). The area is busy and safe, but it does border the Tenderloin area which had a large number of homeless people on the pavement and which some visitors may find intimidating (although you need to walk a couple of blocks to get there). While the hotel wing we stayed in was a bit dated, the rooms were of a good size and very quiet with no issues of noised from adjacent rooms and very little noise from the street which our room faced out onto (we were on the 7th floor though). The beds were excellent, firm without being hard and very comfortable. Shower and water pressure was also very good (although was a shower over a bath). Staff were very friendly and helpful. The fitness centre was small and basic but adequate with two treadmills, two cross trainers and a small collection of free weights. Not that we used it, but the hotel also had a good looking swimming pool which was heated and a sauna (which you needed to make a booking for). The hotel offered great value for money in comparison to other places around the central city.

AustraliaThe area is very seedy. Didn't feel safe it at night, not the fault of the hotel. Avoid the Tenderloin region at all costs!Shower in room could do with an upgrade.
It was central for Union Square. Well lit at night so you could access it feeling safe. Lots of cafes and eateries close by. Right next to high end fashion shops and trams. Pool at the hotel was lovely, clean and warm. Plenty of seating.
