Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNo privacy in the bedrooms. Apply a privacy curtain to the beds to help close off light or noise from other people.
Perfect location. Close to everything or close to a train/bus station that could take you anywhere.

BrazilMinor things: but the light from our room broke off and they did not fixed for at least 30 hous after we complained (after that I left the hostel for another trip). Also my bedroom fell of the bunk, which could lead to some injuries.
Very well-located and very well-structure. Pretty much organized.

ItalyOnly downside was the price… I know it’s Boston but it was still a hostel!
I liked that it was a hostel made for travellers and not just to get money from them. They organised free activities, there were no hidden fees, and the vibe was just amazing to get to know other travellers.

United StatesThe location is wonderful for exploring the city. Staff are helpful and polite. I stayed in a 4 bunk woman's only dorm, the beds were very comfortable and the lockers were huge! There are plenty of spaces to study, work or just relax. I really appreciated the kitchen. I was able to cook my meals. The only down side is there are no sharp knives, just the plastic safety ones. Which is understandable.

IndiaThe bathroom although sufficient was a bit too awkward for usage for my liking, especially because it was my first time in a dormitory setting, so I wouldn't fully blame HI for it. It is a bit pricey, but is definitely a godsend for solo travellers.
Liked the location and how close it was to public transport. Also liked the staff at the place and the facilities overall. Good opportunities to talk with random strangers on their own adventures, this was the most memorable aspect.

United StatesThe price. Call me old fashion but $66 to spend a night in a dorm room is dramatic. I know its Boston, but I had my own hotel room in Paris for the same rate.
Well run hostel. Breakfast was good, Only 2 of us in the dorm.

United StatesIt seemed like they needed additional help at the front desk sometimes, but nothing caused any issues
Great location and overall well organized and maintained property. It was very clean, bathrooms well kept and tended to daily. Staff were helpful. I needed to move from a top bunk to a bottom one and they made it happen right away! I was a bit nervous about a hostel stay being that I’m 40 and have never tried it before, but it was great. Met some really cool fellow travelers of all ages abs backgrounds. It was a great experience

CanadaEven with earplugs, I could hear people late at night talking and laughing in hallway. Beads would creak every time someone moved. Couldn’t sleep due to the noise.

United StatesNot much problems here. If I am being nit picky then I'd say - the ventilation in a couple of bathrooms were not that great and so it stayed super humid inside. Breakfast could be slightly better with more protein options like eggs.
Location and the vibe of the hostel are the two best things about this hostel. Breakfast was okay not great. Rooms were clean. The locker facility in the rooms were great and also the personal reading light was awesome. Bathrooms were good as well. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Netherlands* Check-out day: I had difficulty to enter in the hostel to pick up my bag. I had no more entrance card to scan. Where is the bell? Or...am I supposed to jump around at the windows? ;) * How does it come that you run out of the mugs during the breakfast time? Hostellers have to drink their morning beverage from a tiny, almost like a shot glass... Respectfully, you are a big hostel, but get more mugs or get your staff to clean them. * Some self-closing doors should not be so 'aggressive'. I felt like the door could hit & squeeze me. * My mattress had some sagging/overuse. Are they too old? Or you should consider rotating/pivoting/turning them time to time. * Boston accommodation is just overpriced... Where do you get that pricing from? ;)
* Shower rooms are well done. Thank you! * Breakfast included.

United StatesThe bed frame was a bit noisy, which is not ideal in a shared dorm. The bedroom could also have additional lights (e.g. to read in bed or gather your things in the morning without disrupting others).
Very nice atmosphere and amazing staff; the location was very good, close to the train station but also to the city center; plenty of restaurants nearby; common areas had multiple amenities and there were activities being organized daily.
