Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesToilet had not been cleaned at least a week before we arrived. I recently stayed at a Best Western in eastern Washington that was at least $60 cheaper per night, so I’m not sure why this property was so expensive. Other than the pool, it did not have any amenities that nearby hotels for $85 less per night did not have. It was also located facing a busy highway with little landscaping or outdoor space for patrons to enjoy.
Pool was clean and nice. Bedding was very clean. Bathroom modern. Staff were friendly and responsive.

United StatesThe couch in the room was not comfortable. Sometimes someone had to find them, as they were running out of breakfast items or even coffee cups and no was keeping tabs on it. The service could have been better. When we checked in we were told they would not be cleaning the room while we were there and if we wanted it done, we would have to come to the front desk and ask them. We really preferred not having anyone clean, but it was the way it was presented that was rather rude. That seemed to be the norm anytime you asked a question.
We stayed for two nights. The room was clean and the bed was mostly comfortable. The breakfast was OK, normal hotel breakfast - scrambled eggs, waffles, cereal, toast, pastries, etc.. The location was good though. It is right on the Main street, ready to take you where ever you need to go.

United StatesThe pool had just been 'shocked' the day before and was still very chemically the next day. The pool area is very nice and indoor. We had to exit the facility to walk our dog. They only have a small grass patch on site. there is a park a block away.
The location was just a block from down town so we could walk out to eat or shop. We were also just 1 block from the Kam Wah Chung Heritage site that is a must do. The room was just right for traveling with a dog.

United StatesFor the price we expected a little more. Some things were broken (like the access to the hot tub and minor things in the room). A good motel, but just not a good value. Very expensive for a place like John Day.
Certainly the best motel in town, good location.

United StatesHad some difficulty parking the tour bus but that’s a hard problem to solve! Bit of an off odor in my room to start but nothing terrible and I didn’t notice it when I returned after a walk. TV service was a bit spotty but had no problem watching the game so I didn’t really mind.
Breakfast was good and needed! Helped us to get our busy day off to a good start.

The only problem was the bathtub. It was permanently stained and looked dirty. The tub should be either replaced or resurfaced. If not for this, a perfect review would have been given.

United StatesThe place is understaffed. Both times I went in (to check in and for breakfast the next morning), no one was there, and I and others had to wait between 5-10 minutes until someone showed up. Clearly they have folks doing double-duty. The pool door didn't work (had to be let in), and some breakfast items were missing (was told it was a delivery issue). I feel badly for the woman managing the place, but something clearly needs to be done to up this property's game. Garbage cans were overflowing, room wasn't as clean as it should've been, folks are MIA at the front desk.
Beds were comfortable, staff was nice.

United StatesTotally not the fault of the hotel but someone defecated in the pool so it was shut down the entire rest of our stay, much to the dismay of our grandchildren and the city has no pool to take them to. There isn't a lot to do in John Day so the pool was what they were looking forward to the most. Prices have gone up everywhere but $300 a night in a small town with little to do is more than it should be.
Breakfast was good. Employees were nice. Location was good.

United StatesMy only complaint was that there was a man yelling outside my door at 7:30am, because SUVs were parked in compact spaces. There was limited parking for full sized vehicles, but the full size SUVs seemed to fit just fine in my opinion. I think taking the compact signs out if possible would be helpful.
I liked how clean the facility was, and that the pool and hot tub were both open. After spending the day in -12° degrees it was nice to have a warm room and hot tub to warm up in.

United StatesThe room needs some updating. The carpet was kind of yucky and the paint was a dreary color. Also, could use more lighting in the room.
The room was a good size and having a refrigerator, microwave and a Keurig coffee maker in room was very welcome. The breakfast choices were very varied and good. The beds were comfortable. The check in process was very fast and easy and the employees very friendly and pleasant.

United StatesWe did not get the sofa beds in either room. The bathrooms were dirty in both rooms. The pool was damaged in one corner and dirty. There was no continental breakfast left at 6:30 am accept bread and coffee. The rooms were extremely overpriced for the fact that they were not clean in the bathrooms, obvious soap scum and garbage. We also didn't get daily room cleaning so nothing in the room was replenished during our stay. Our biggest issue is that booking.com mislead us on the size and capacity of the rooms we booked and the price was very high.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. We liked the location. There was an amazing restaurant within walking distance.
