How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Room was on first floor and unless blind was fully down in the bathroom, people could see in. Bedroom was a bit small.
Great bar and outside drinks area and cool decor. It was also in a great location. Very comfy bed.

The only point: As the room was not ready at my arrival (which was completely fine, as I was too early), they only wanted to inform me by e-mail and not by SMS, because I have an international number. Obviously because of the costs... In a hotel of this standard and with this rates ....
I liked the complete athmosphere, the location and the service.

The rooms are too small or too loud (there was a white noise on the suite)
Is a boutique hotel where you can go to the lobby and talk, staff was very friendly and the drinks server were quite good. Overall, this is a perfect hotel for a quiet stay without noise.

If you could lower the price per night a bit, we'd love to stay longer. But in a way we also understand that since this is a boutique hotel with no expansive branches, covering all the expenses is this hotel's sole 'responsibility' (not getting financial support from other branches or HQ). We still hope to come back. Thank you Hotel Whitney for making our four-day trip a memorable one!!
Almost everything was perfect, but we gave it a 10 anyway :) Check-in process was smooth and I think we got upgraded, but we're not sure. Joyce and Carol went above and beyond!!! They made us feel home and they were trying their best to accommodate our requests. For instance, we bought some bubble tea but the room didn't have a fridge, so Joyce provided us with a portable fridge. When we checked out and it was pouring out there and we needed to cross the street to access the T station, Carol said we could take the umbrella. The restaurants is also a non-tipping establishment, which gave us the impression that the hotel takes care of its employees well. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. It was so good that we didn't want to go out :) The neighbourhood is the best of Boston (in our opinion) and is conveniently located next to a T station.

Walls are a little thin. We could hear footsteps from upstairs and also next door.

Internet service was poor, telephone doesn’t work and tv connection chromecast failure constantly. The location of the room was not good in the basement.

$500 bucks a night is a lot but I suppose you get what you pay for.
Super staff. Joyce was a real crackerjack, a bundle of positive energy. Very proactive.

Whitney is such a cosy and home-like hotel, with amazingly comfortable mattresses and wonderful staff. James and Jacqueline were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a different high end hotel in Boston and the staff was just so mean and inhospitable. When we come back to Boston we will definitely stay at The Whitney

Little bit overpriced but I compare with Europe where at 500$ you will stay at 4 seasons with breakfast included
