Things to Do in Ferrara

Estense Castle
After the citizens of Ferrara revolted in 1385, the ruling duke constructed this massive fortress to protect himself and his family. The orange-yellow walls of the castle rise forbiddingly above a moat, and within its walls there’s a large courtyard, which is now used for fairs and festivals. Inside the castle, you’ll discover marble passageways, rooftop terraces and lavish apartments with magnificently painted ceilings.
Booking.com asked travelers...

How well restored were the castles in Ferrara?

The castle is still being renovated but the visit is interesting as it recounts in detail the history of the town. Also it has some of the best frescoed ceilings I have seen well displayed in enormous mirrors. The art on display, particularly that of Boldini is terrific.
Well restored with even more restoration happening. English info was great
